LifeHiscost Posted August 25, 2013 Posted August 25, 2013 Does a "personal judgmental tone" in a typewritten script, originate from the person who posted or come from the mind of who read the script? And what does the "tone" of a written script sound like? Does the "tone" sound the same whether the script is true or false? Enquiring minds would like to know. God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 25, 2013 Members Posted August 25, 2013 some postings are obviously written with the intent to disrespect and humiliate... other things need the extra use of "smilies" or pictures to help convey the tone.... at least, that's how I see it. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 26, 2013 Administrators Posted August 26, 2013 Moderator Note: I would note that first of all, your question originates from a specific moderator note that included a personally directed statement from one of your own posts. The expected response if you have a question about or wish to argue about a moderator action is for you to send a PM to that moderator to discuss it. If not satisfied with the answer you can then take it to the Administrators, Stan and Gail. If that does not resolve your concerns, taking to the rest of the members is your final step. (Sounds familiar doesn't it?) But since you have chosen to skip protocol, I will respond here as I would have had you just sent me a PM. I suggest that you go back and reread the moderator note along with the entire thread, carefully. The reason for the note should be fairly obvious. Yes, judgmental tone is partially a matter of perception, but in context of the whole conversation, the overall tone becomes clear. It clearly was rapidly slipping into a personal spitting contest with participants taking the topic personal and making the responses too personal in return. That seldom ends well. Your post was specifically directed at one specific person, but was just one of several that contributed to the overall slide into ad hominem territory. The overall message you gave was basically, "Change your opinion about this topic or be subject to God's eternal judgment and be destroyed". The more offensive posts of others were removed. Yours was not. A gentle reminder was in order. The decision to intervene in that topic was informed by reactions and responses of others, not just a singular moderator perception. Experience tells us that once a topic slips off this edge it seldom gets back on track without some very intentional, and sometimes uncomfortably persistent and insistent, redirection. For important topics, such as the one in question, having it derailed is a shame and defeats the whole idea of a forum, which should be comfortable place to freely exchange ideas and perspectives on any topic. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Moderators Bravus Posted August 27, 2013 Moderators Posted August 27, 2013 My response was the flabbergasted emotion that emoticon attempted to convey: the arrogation of divine discernment to oneself and the associated denial of it to others is a consistent pattern of your posts that betrays a breathtaking presumption. Discernment is displayed, not claimed. That's not what I said but I can believe you've helped to convey that idea. If I were to tell you my nose would grow longer if I were lying, would you be angry with me if it didn't grow longer? Or maybe vice-versa. If you're so certain what I'm saying is not true, why would you get upset? Most people reading fairy tales have little expectation of it taking place, but they don't have any desire to prove the story to be untrue. "“But you are my witnesses, O Israel!” says the Lord. “You are my servant. You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God— there never has been, and there never will be." Isaiah 43:10 NLT I didn't say that. He did. If you think you can silence His witness, that's to your loss. "And the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb.” And he added, “These are true words that come from God.” Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said, “No, don’t worship me. I am a servant of God, just like you and your brothers and sisters who testify about their faith in Jesus. Worship only God. For the essence of prophecy is to give a clear witness for Jesus.”"Rev 19:9-11 NLT God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Sorry to say LHC, that you do exactly what you are trying to point out in your OP! I have much respect for your posts, but it seems that you try to hide behind them! Most of the time they have nothing to do with what your saying or the other poster that your addressing them too is conveying to you. I love the bible verses, but most of the time they have nothing to do with the conversation. So if my post is offense to you I will apologize now, but I just had to let you know how I felt. I'm of the opinion all have a right to think for themselves, whether appealing to others(including me) or not, and I do appreciate your honesty. At present I do have something of a dilemma when taking scripture that makes sense to me, yet seems totally missing the point by others. How many faithful friends did Jesus have that stood by His side when finishing His work on this earth the last time He was here in the flesh? Yet there is some very biting texts that make me realize this may not be the best field for me to play ball. God bless! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 28, 2013 Administrators Posted August 28, 2013 Here is a rule of thumb that may help in writing in this forum context. (And it may be helpful for writing in general.) Approach it as a face to face group conversation. There are a lot of aspects of this that I could elaborate on, but consider how you would typically respond to another person in such a conversation and write it that way. To the point that Peter has made, it would be rather odd to respond to every idea or thought voiced by others in a conversation to just quote a string of verses from Scripture, or EGW quotes. Consider it from the perspective of those on the other side of the conversation. They are most likely wanting to hear your own thoughts in response, unless they are specifically asking for Bible verses on the topic or the topic is "What does the Bible have to say about ________?" If it doesn't play well in a normal face to face conversation, it is not likely to work any better here. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." LifeHiscost Posted August 28, 2013 Author Posted August 28, 2013 Quote: we might not see that verse in the same light. The problem with that is that if we don't see it with the Light that He sheds, we are in the dark or at the least, light partially obscured, which to some extent could define everyone on earth except those who put their trust in Him Who is the Light putting His Light around them, beyond anything they could establish of their own. Then, of course, if we turn away from the Light it will get darker until we are totally without light, all of our own volition and a good push from the enemy of the Light. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”John 9:5 NKJV God cares! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

On the face of it you seem to be suggesting that if not seen in the way that you do....something is wrong. Is that correct? What does the text have to do with the 'quote'? The quote is saying not everyone may see the same thing, which would be normal. Quote
LifeHiscost Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 Quote: you seem to be suggesting that if not seen in the way that you do In that biblical quote, the personal pronoun "I", is referring to Jesus. Since He is the Creator of all things and refers to Himself as the Light, I suggest that if one bases their conclusions on what He says on any topic imaginable, in respect to Who He is, we would follow His directions. OTOH if we can make no sense out of what He says, unless we have turned a blind eye to His directions previously, we have no need to fear. "Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin."James 4:17 NASB If we both see the injunction, whatever it might be, as Jesus sees it, we'll both see it the same way unless our spiritual maturity is different, at which time our Father in heaven takes that into consideration and rewards us according to what our works shall be.
