Yep, that is how I understand it, too.

Quote:

It might not be that the person is in the dark, but seeing in part, as 1 Corinthians 13 puts it. We can expect to see "in part" until that which is perfect is come.

As we would like others to be patient with us while our knowledge is in part, we can afford to give a little leeway to them as well. It is the Holy Spirit that enlightens, and that in His time.

Sometimes, as in the case of Paul before he became Paul, that requires asking for the gift of patience as a necessary prerequisite for each person's salvation.

"“I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers’ law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today. I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women, as also the high priest bears me witness, and all the council of the elders, from whom I also received letters to the brethren, and went to Damascus to bring in chains even those who were there to Jerusalem to be punished.

“Now it happened, as I journeyed and came near Damascus at about noon, suddenly a great light from heaven shone around me. And I fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to me, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?’ So I answered, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And He said to me, ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.’" Acts 22:3-8 NKJV

I think LHC is getting poked with a sharp stick for very little reason.

The following will probably get me poked with the same sharp stick, but I think it needs to be said. Not to condemn anyone, but to hopefully help people to understand what's happening.

LHC is posting scripture. Some people are having a big problem with scripture. Why? Why should a Christian have a problem with scripture? Should I have a problem with scripture that points out any of my failings? I don't think so. Should I have a problem with scripture that I don't think is relevant? Why? So what if I don't think it's relevant? Is that a reason to condemn the person who posted it? I don't think so. Maybe I just misunderstand that scripture.

I see very little irrelevant scripture posted by LHC. Scripture gets right down to the nitty gritty. It divides right down to the bone and marrow. It shows motive and error for what they are. For that reason alone I can't mad at scripture, for if I do I'm showing myself as being defensive and that's not a good thing. Being defensive at the word of God isn't good for us. It shows rebellion in our hearts.

I didn't say this to condemn anyone. I've been defensive at what scripture points out about me. I'm in the same class, or have been, just on different subjects. I have no right to feel superior to anyone, and I don't. We're all in the same boat together. God is working at changing all of us, so who are we to judge another person's motives for posting scripture?

God bless you, LHC. I for one am with you. That probably doesn't count for much around here, but I'm still with you for whatever that counts.

He posts *a very specific, pointed, directed, selected subset of Scripture*. Selected in such a way that the clear implication is that to disagree with him in any point is to disagree with God.

Selecting and juxtaposing Scripture in such a way is tantamount to presuming to speak for God, rather than to let God speak for himself.

I would like to add that none of the above statement is meant to be an attack at LHC. Just a hope that maybe we all can together improve on our communication skills. LHC is simply the target here as he started the thread about an issue some have with his style of communication.

Exactly MT, I didn't see anyone attacking LHC. As I mentioned to him personally, he has many good things to say, its how he puts it together.

For the most part it is very rare that I can tell why he would post the verses he has posted. They usually make no sense at all in context of the subject.

Unfortunately that is how it is for me as well.

I had just put it down to my general lack of literary skills; After all, I teach mathematics...

So I am encouraged to perceive that I am not alone!

Fortunately or unfortunately depending upon how you look at it, that seems to be the way the Lord plans it sometimes, as our Bible group ran across this in the regularly scheduled Bible readings for this Sabbath evening.

"Then I said, “It’s all over! I am doomed, for I am a sinful man. I have filthy lips, and I live among a people with filthy lips. Yet I have seen the King, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this coal has touched your lips. Now your guilt is removed, and your sins are forgiven.”

Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?”

I said, “Here I am. Send me.”

And he said, “Yes, go, and say to this people,

‘Listen carefully, but do not understand.

Watch closely, but learn nothing.’

Harden the hearts of these people.

Plug their ears and shut their eyes.

That way, they will not see with their eyes,

nor hear with their ears,

nor understand with their hearts

and turn to me for healing.”"Isaiah 6:5-10 NLT

And also, tonight during our Bible study, not everyone and perhaps none including myself, had a perfect handle on the Word above. I encourage you if you know, please add your knowledge to those of us who admit we don't know the whole picture. Which reminds me, this man that voiced his assessment of himself above was Isaiah, perhaps the reason God chose him to deliver the message.
