bonnie Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 the story Bonnie wrote about the man who was paralyzed and then got his CPA license, brings up a question I've always wondered about... Do people with disabilities have more financial help from various places in order to further their education and become independent than those who have no [visible] disabilities? (just asking if anyone knows...I've not researched it) There are grants, scholarships, loans etc available.Exactly what at this time I am not sure. He was self employed and was covered by his insurance up to a point. His hospitalization and rehab was covered but had he not continued his education he would have been on SSD for the rest of his life. Surprising what the human being can endure and prosper. With the exception of limited movement in his hands he is paralyzed from the neck down. He is completely self supporting at this time. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. bonnie Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 He did receive training on special computers during rehab and he did have either a loan or grant to take the schooling for CPA. bonnie Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 For those who produce well with little or much fruit, here is the reason they need not covet what others have, or not. bonnie Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 I worked the 5-9 AM part time shift at a Home Improvement store. Many of us worked that shift as all we wanted was part time and the added flexibility really made it a ideal place to work altho it was just a bit over minimum wage. Those wanting more hours could work on weekends for a additional 2.50 per hour. The perks and bonuses also added to make it a good place to work There wasn't any experience required and actually not even a high school diploma. All that was required was being willing to work and learn the job. Skin color or language skills didn't matter as long as one applied themselves. The company made every effort to hire full time from the part time shift. This prevented them from having to train as the part time crew did a little of everything. They rotated us from dept to dept so we had a working knowledge of all area's of the store.Free online in depth classes were offered for those wanting to be qualified for a full time opening when it became available. For those like myself and mothers with small children it worked very well and prevented the cost of day care. For those wishing more and a better paying job it was as close to ideal as one could get in the workforce. I still shop there and see many of my former co-workers as dept managers,no longer minimum wage. Then there were those that did only did enough to keep from getting fired. When we were really busy and trying to get our work done before our shift was up,their standard reply was "They don't pay me enough to work that hard" "I am not working weekends" "Why should I take the classes, they are not paying me to do that?" Those with the attitude of the last group are still whining about their lack of opportunity and their poverty, seemingly oblivious of how much they could do to improve it Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make.
