it used to be that when people died, they were buried, or at least the remains stayed pretty much together.

with cremation so common these days, it got me to wondering about the resurrection...

now, I can somewhat visualize the resurrection of some who were cremated, such as those whose ashes remained together, or of the Jews and others who were cremated at the concentration camps during WWII...

but, what if someone's ashes got sprinkled at sea or tossed to the winds, where will the resurrected body show up?

will the bodies pop up in the place they died? or in the place they were buried?

Since God is a God of order, I can't imagine the resurrection spot would be random.

Any thoughts?

Good question. I have wondered how that would work. I know of one person whose request was to be scattered from a plane over the mountains and another portion over a favorite beach spot. And it was granted.

It may be one of the things we won't know until our Lord returns.

Is it possible for God to recreate again from nothing?

Or, is God required to recreate us from the actual atoms that once formed our bodies?

:) Yes, of course it is possible for God to recreate again from nothing.

I suspect that the reason that we often think of God resurrecting us from our resting places is because of our traditional human concepts.

Yet, for the sake of discussion ... how important are the actual atoms that once formed our bodies? Do they perhaps represent us?

hmm.. I was under the impression that we would still keep a semblance of something, since we would be remembering incidents and people from "life before resurrection."

If the resurrection meant everything, including one's mental processes and memories, were created from "all-new" materials, where would the memories and recognition of others come from? If people were "recreated" from non-original "dust," it wouldn't be the same person (at least, it doesn't sound like it to me). It would be a mere "copy"... the person might look like and sound like the original, but it wouldn't be.

Yep, and how about those who were blown up or vapourized by nuclear war?

I was kinda hoping not to meet Jesus with the body I have, all full of allergies and weak.

There is a part of you that goes back to God when you die- your spirit. Who knows what all that entails?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

When that word is used in that context, its' original language meant the "breath of life". Just as Adam became man when God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, I like to think it will be an intimate close encounter at our resurrection. Something like CPR, a kiss from our Heavenly Father.

"...in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”" 1 Corinthians 15:52-54 NKJV

Pam, I believe that you have the idea that we will keep a semblance of ourselves (less Gail's allergies and my Lupus)

because we are told in 1 Corinthian 13:12 (AMP)

Quote:
12 For now we are looking in a mirror that gives only a dim (blurred) reflection [of reality as in a riddle or enigma], but then [when perfection comes] we shall see in reality and face to face! Now I know in part (imperfectly), but then I shall know and understand fully and clearly, even in the same manner as I have been fully and clearly known and understood [by God].

I need to take time to research this a bit more. To date I have been rather simple in that if my Bible says it then it will happen and I am okay with waiting for the answers. However, this is a question that I would enjoy having a bit more definition.

Perhaps we need to think like little children. For a child it is no great problem to think that God would ressurrect connected people in the same place. For them it would be no great issue for a person, mom or dad, to look just like they did when they died, no matter the circustances. I would be willing to bet they would have no problem with imagning be brought back to life with all the same memories, etc. I have a feeling we understand very little of the process of what 'life' is. In our desire to reject everything that is not written in the Bible or where science disagrees, or so we think, with the Bible, we limit our thoughts and understanding.

I believe you are on to something valuable. Little children are happy, enjoy things as they are and DON'T over-think .

Are unrecorded details really anything that is going to have an effect on the weather at the North Pole, or our happiness or relationship with God & man?

but even little children would be confused as to where their dead parent would arise from, if the parent's ashes had been scattered to the winds. For what would the answer be, if the child asked "where's daddy 'sleeping'?"

No, but we can still enjoy the freedom to contemplate and discuss.

Correct, but they the ability to accept if they are told that it will happen with the other parents/parents/etc. It is easier for them to think "yeah, that,s cool!" They don't have the hang-ups adults have who have lost the ability to imagine. Adults want a more reasonable or logical explanation.

Christ pointed out that children have the ability to better accept what they are told. I believe 'religion' can be big deterrent to acceptance of many things. No outside of the 'box' thinking!

Likewise, if the unrighteous are resurrected in this arrangement, would God recreate the imperfect copy of them at the time of their death? Some people died a horrific agonizing deaths, like cancer patients, or burned alive. Are they brought back barely alive with all of their pre-death memories, just to experience a more horrific one?

It is true that God said, “Come now, and let us reason together,” In context, it was about our failings.

However I would suggest the principle goes farther than just the immediate context.

I know of one notorious individual who thought thinking "out of the box" gave license to any avenue of self-aggrandizement. His end?

"And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

And the One Who voluntarily stayed inside the box perfectly, paid with His life. OTOH, that was far from His end!

"I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you."John 13:15 NLT

"“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am."John 14:1-3 NLT

Yes, I agree ... to a point. Yet, one can get so carried away with contemplation that we lose sight of reality. I love to dream of how beautiful Heaven will be, or even imagining the vision of loved ones being raised from their graves; but only to a point. Our feeble minds cannot visualize the way it will actually be and too much imagining or what if's can take away from the time we have to serve God and our fellow men and women. Or to study the work in earnest prayer.

Why can't God bring us back as ourselves but without the agonizing issues that we died with. No more pain or sorrow would indicate that we will not have cancer, or whatever.

If there is o sorrow, we should be able to remember but in such a way as not to feel pain or sadness.

We would have made a great pair because I was that way ... still am about many things. Yet, I feel that if we try to get too far out in interrupting God's Word we are treading on dangerous ground.

As for bodies being raised from their graves I did an abstract one time of just that. It was in pastels and more spirit like than recognizable humans, all we floating upwards. Sold for a good deal of money.

God gave us a mind for a reason, it was not to shut down and quiver in fear of what we might be able to question and understand. Your texts really have nothing to do with the question, but rather to enforce peoples fear of 'thinking' of any type that may challenge current opinion or accepted thought.

We, as believers in a Creator God of the world on which we live and the universe itself, still have difficulty in 'un-limiting' God when it comes to thing we don't understand and do our best to make God into our frame of mind concepts. If we really believe that God spoke everything into existence why are we not able to think that God can go beyond or most supernatural imaginative thought?

Can God just 'snap' His 'fingers' and recreate any person to what ever 'condition' He so desires? Can God do the same with our past memories? Sounds impossible, non logical, weird, outlandish or what ever! I doubt we can even think or imagine of what the powers of a being that can 'create' a universe is capable of. Those abilities would be limitless and 'outside the box' of our minds.

Children and imagine 'impossible things', according to their parents and others. People like Edison, Einstein, Hawking and others have and are exploring the boundaries of human imagination. It is truly exciting! The questions and imagination starteded early in life.

Pam's curiosity and question is great! Imagine...imagine!

Our lost loved ones live in our memory, and even more important they live in God's memory. If you think about it, being alive in God's memory is being even more alive than our conscious life. God has every hair of their head counted, their very innermost self, all that ever happened to them, every memory, every event, their very essence. The creator is able to bring all this back. This is what makes the resurrection possible, not the condition of the body.

Also, might be wise for us to sit down with a concordance and read and think about all the verses discussion "Sheol"
