Stan Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Though He was a Jew, Jesus mingled freely with the Samaritans, setting at nought the Pharisaic customs of His nation. In face of their prejudices He accepted the hospitality of this despised people. He slept with them under their roofs, ate with them at their tables,--partaking of the food prepared and served by their hands,--taught in their streets, and treated them with the utmost kindness and courtesy. And while He drew their hearts to Him by the tie of human sympathy, His divine grace brought to them the salvation which the Jews rejected. Administrators debbym Posted April 22, 2014 Administrators Posted April 22, 2014 What would be the modern counterparts? the modern counter part would be.... we would be so intimate with our heavenly Father, so tuned, cleansed, healed, that Christ's love for God and for others was being breathed from our lives. and we would find ourselves doing the loving thing. we would be showing how kind and tender and accepting God is towards every human being. Freely associating and being gracious towards those who are regarded as unworthy by human standards. and next, we would be hated for expressing this love with great power, and lifting and blessing those who are despised, and rejected. And resented for drawing the people away from the hub of human religious control, authority, and power. we would give glory to God, and not to humanity, ours or others. Quote deb Love awakens love. I couldn't have said it any better. Having spent the last 61 years approximately, making effort by the grace of God, to learn more of the Masters desires for me through His Word, hasn't made me any more confident that my effort to learn to know Him adds any greater assurance of eternal salvation. The devil has spent that much time and probably milleniums more, learning (misapprehending) from the Word and he's come to the conclusion it is necessary to roar like a lion in order to destroy the body of Christ. If you think your learning is sufficient, far be it for me to dissuade you. If that were the case, I'm sure I would be able to find it in the Word, which would still be up to the Holy Spirit to do the convicting as the Word was revealed, which you have considered to be splatter. That you see the beauty and truth in debbym's posts says you understand the love and character of God at the heart level quite well, and that is only possible through the surrender of self to God. I do see judgmentalism displayed against you by some of those who claim to love much more than you do. All I can say to that is, welcome to the club. God is love, he hates sin but does not cease loving any of His creation. When we perfectly hate sin and profoundly love God and sinners we will be in tune with Jesus. Jesus did not go out of his way to associate with those who hated Him. But he went out of His way to associate with those they hated. the natural man will hate Jesus, because Jesus does nothing to please the sinful flesh, the unregenerate ego, and self pleasing religion. His ways contradict pride and self exaltation in every form. none of us has it down perfect, "we see in Part, and know in part." "If we know all mysteries and have faith so as to move mountains and have not love we are nothing." ty for your post affirming LHC joeb, and LHC thank you for your posts. Quote deb Love awakens love. LifeHiscost Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Quote: Even though God is the same; since we have changed, He relates to us differently than He did in the OT. By that standard it would seem this below wasn't part of God's SOP(that would be standard operating procedure) in earlier ages before Jesus first came to this earth. Do you see us or our ancestors less in need of His mercy? "You must never twist justice or show partiality."Deuteronomy 16:19 NLT "For to him who has shown no mercy the judgment [will be] merciless, but mercy [full of glad confidence] exults victoriously over judgment."James 2:13 AMP "But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy."James 3:17 KJV God cares! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
JoeMo Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Quote: Do you see us or our ancestors less in need of His mercy? Absolutely not. The Hebrews rejected relationship with God at Mt. Sinai during the Exodus when they told Moses they were afraid of God; and just wanted the list of rules that would govern the convenant they were making. So God gave them the contract they asked for instead of the relationship He wanted. There were penalties stated in the contract for non-compliance with the terms. The Hebrews violated the provisions of the contract and paid the stipulated penalties. We are in the same position today. Jesus offered a new covenant, because the old one was obsolete (See the entire Book of Hebrews). We could live in an increasingly intimate relationship with God - to be reconciled with Him and covered by the righteousness of His Son; or we could choose to be under the covenant of the Law. Don't say "Oh then you're saying we can go out and sin to our heart's content as long as we 'love Jesus'". I'm NOT saying that. Anyone who loves Jesus with all their heart will have His standards (Law) written on their hearts; and by following their Spirit-led inclinations, they will be unconsciously following His will. People do not seek to hurt the ones they love. They don't need a law to live to please the object of their love. Part of the love for Jesus is loving everone around us - especially those that some would otherwise consider "spiritual lepers and cripples". Quote

LifeHiscost Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Quote: What Jesus is telling Nicodemus is that there is no way that he should have missed the idea central to the plan of salvation, that of being born again through the work of the Holy Spirit upon the heart, in his study of the OT. This idea is found throughout the OT. It's not limited to Psalm 51, David, or Jesus' words to Nicodemus. Thank you for your response, joeb. There has been for many years a conviction of this in my own mind, just using the common sense that God would always treat us, all of human kind with an even hand, not giving some the edge over others. Even those who go to their grave without a knowledge of Jesus as Savior and Lord, will not lose their reward if obeying this principle below. "For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith."Romans 12:3 NKJV Not to mention this directly from our Lord. "Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do."Luke 23:34 NKJV God cares! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
JoeMo Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Hey, joeb, Good to see you back! I don't deny that relationship has always been available; nor do I deny that a common sense reading of the OT would show one the working of the Holy Spirit. But "relationship" was not the theme of the OT; nor is it the theme of many conservative denominations and cultures today that preach salvation through law-keeping and good works. How can people read the books of Isaiah and Zechariah and not "get" the concept of a suffering Messiah? Yet millions still don't recognize Christ as the Messiah. Just cuz people "should" have understood it doesn't mean they did. I didn't get it until just a few years ago. Quote
