Is Liberty safe?

Freedom does not mean the absence of consequences. When I once stepped out of an airplane 4,000 feet above the ground below, my freedom had consequences which I accepted and once I stepped out, I no longer had the freedom to chose.

At another time, I stepped out of a helicopter, 90 feet above the ground below, and I was not wearing a parachute. That freedom had consequences, which in my case happened to be a broken rib. Once I stepped out of that helicopter I had committed to the consequences, whether understood, or not.

Just as laws of science tell us that there are typical consequences of stepping out of an airplane 4,000 feet above the ground, so also does society have the right to determine the consequences that will result from an attempt to steal the property of another.

Freedom has consequences.

The wonderful thing about the mercy and patience of God is that, through His Son Jesus, as long as breath remains we have the freedom to choose repentance, with His strength to endure the consequences of our poor choices.
