whbae Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Are you a vegetarian is a wrong question. We past that stage a long time ago. We should be asking do you practice "health message"? The "Health Message" goes beyond meat eating business. I came to this country 1955 from Korea. When I was in Korea we heard the health message from the pulpit many a times. Since I came to this country I am yet to hear a single health message from the pulpit or other sources. Only thing we know about SDA's Health Message is "do not eat meat"! We should practice healthful living, this principal was prescribed by EG White. How many of you heard this message in its entirety or read through? How many of our kids know more than "we don't eat meat". Is there any wonder why so little percentage of SDAs are vegetarians? Have you ever wondered why so many obese people in our church including preachers! Do they know the "health message" and not practice it or ignorant about it. Have you ever wondered why so many this generation sdas are indulging in coffee, coke, alcoholic drinks and undesirable recreational activities? All these catagories fall into this health message. When I lived in NY, we went to the Jewish Adventist Temple in the Bronx, where we lived. The Pastor there, Dr. JM Hoffman, preached the Health message at all of his evangelist meeting. He also owned a nursing home where he fed his patients what he preached about. Many got so much better that they even went home. LifeHiscost Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 My primary reason for becoming a vegetarian was accomplished some time before becoming a SDA, when I considered that the eating of animals was contrary to God's perfect plan, assuming that death is not part of those plans for heaven, as expressed in a couple of His promises. "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."Matt 6:10 KJV God is Love! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
Aliensanctuary Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 I wasn't raised vegetarian, but after living near an SDA community and associating with SDA's my age, I began changing my diet. After noticing that the hamburgers at McDonald's had bone chips, cartilage, and blood vessels, all ground meat became more and more disgusting. Switching to vegetarian made it easy to sync with my future wife who was raised that way. Although we never serve meat at home, I do occasionally sample at work, but never, never meat that has been ground up with who knows what body parts included. There are plenty of good-tasting no-meat recipes that we are happy with, so, we have no interest in the meat dishes, and don't go to restaurants that don't have much to offer those who prefer vegetarian diets. Meat was part of the priest's diet given by the LORD, and they ate the portion that was allotted to them. There will be meat, and wine, on the tables set at the feast for the chosen ones from Earth. Moderators Bravus Posted August 17, 2014 Moderators Posted August 17, 2014 I'm not a vegetarian, but my daughter who lives with us and does a lot of the cooking is, so I eat a lot of vegetarian food, along with some occasional chicken and fish and very occasional beef and (yes) pork. In terms of reasons for being vegetarian, the ones I find most compelling are the 'outward-looking' ones that benefit others, rather than either religious observance or my own health (which I take care of in multiple ways including exercise, sunlight, water, sleep, eating well and being happy). This include: - animal welfare - not only in their deaths but in the lives many animals grown for meat and dairy/eggs live. I go free range whenever possible when I do eat meat - environment - much meat production is unsustainable, including cutting down forests for grazing land, over-grazing, over-fertilising, manure runoff and so on. - human welfare - it takes roughly 7 times as much land and water to make a pound of meat as a pound of vegetable food. In the quest to feed everyone, this is important. As I say, I've moved further in the direction of vegetarianism without making the switch. Make your own choice, and inform yourself. thx4mercy Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Seventh-day Adventist meat-eaters who decide to clean up their diet should feel a little better when they realize that by doing so they have stopped disobeying God. I do not know any meat-eaters who follow the Biblical requirements which forbid the partaking of the fat and blood. I am surprised that no meat eaters have objected to your statements here. Quote

LifeHiscost Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Quote: There will be meat, and wine, on the tables set at the feast for the chosen ones from Earth. I'm supposing you are getting your information from some other source than the Holy Scripture. Since there will be no death in the new earth after Jesus' return, there will be nothing that has to die to satiate the appetite of other life forms. And since alcohol, even in the smallest amounts, tends to destroy cell growth and formation in the human body, unless the "wine" is sweet wine and appropriately nourishing, there will be no wine served in the new earth either. Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.Prov 23:29-32 KJV "And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."Rev 21:3-4 KJV God is Love! Sojourner Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 In the Living Bible it uses the term "Choice Beef" if that is any help - "6 Here on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, the Lord Almighty will spread a wondrous feast for everyone around the world—a delicious feast of good food, with clear, well-aged wine and choice beef". Moderators Bravus Posted August 18, 2014 Moderators Posted August 18, 2014 KJV renders Verse 6 as follows: 6 And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. LifeHiscost Posted August 18, 2014 Posted August 18, 2014 KJV renders Verse 6 as follows: 6 And in this mountain shall the Lord of hosts make unto all people a feast of fat things, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wines on the lees well refined. Fat things with marrow sure doesn't sound like tofu to me! I did read the KJV and found it seemingly giving an understanding of killing so that a banquet could be served to those who find satisfaction in the destruction of some of God's creation in order to keep others alive. I'm of the opinion that God sheds His love and grace on all of the creatures He's responsible for and desires for them to return to the moral standard of the garden of Eden before the fall of Adam and Eve. I cannot explain why some believe death not to be vanquished for all, nor why that text seems to indicate the continuing slaughter of animals for the appetite of man, but I do accept this text below refers to all of God's Kingdom and prefer to be wrong about the other text while accepting this below as eternal, reflecting God is Love. "But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ, the firstfruits; then, when he comes, those who belong to him. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. The last enemy to be destroyed is death. For he “has put everything under his feet.”Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all."1 Cor 15:20-28 KJV I do realize the Holy Bible is primarily for the benefit of man, however I also believe love to be supreme and that death is a result of the intrusion of the devil's schemes and will come to an end for the sake of Him Who is referred to as all in all. I also feel safer in the hands of Someone who has the power to exercise His rule, eliminating all fear from all His creation, not just those whose day hasn't come up for their extermination for the sake of the preservation of others. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love."1 John 4:8 KJV God is Love! Jesus saves! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

The Sovereign Lord will wipe away all tears. From the CJB:Isaiah 25:6 On this mountain ADONAI-Tzva'ot will make for all peoples a feast of rich food and superb wines, delicious, rich food and superb, elegant wines. 7 On this mountain he will destroy the veil which covers the face of all peoples, the veil enshrouding all the nations. 8 He will swallow up death forever. Adonai ELOHIM will wipe away the tears from every face, and he will remove from all the earth the disgrace his people suffer. For ADONAI has spoken. From the Online Tanakh w/Rashi's Commentary: 6. And the Lord of Hosts shall make for all the peoples on this mount, a feast of fat things, a feast of dregs; fat things full of marrow, dregs well refined. commentary: And the Lord of Hosts shall make for all the peoples: when they come to mobilize against Jerusalem. a feast of fat things: which they think that it will be easy for them like fat, which is smooth and soft, will be converted for them to a feast of dregs. fat things full of marrow: soft and fat like the marrow of bones, will be dregs well refined from any liquid of wine or oil, for there will be there only the dregs. All this will be in the war of Gog and Magog. 7. And He shall destroy on this mountain the face of the covering that covers all the peoples and the kingdom that rules over all the nations. commentary: the covering: The covering that covers all the people. An expression of kingdom and ruling. 8. Moderators Bravus Posted August 19, 2014 Moderators Posted August 19, 2014 The assumption that Isaiah was talking about Heaven, rather than some future kingdom on Earth, may also not be valid. It does always amuse me how easily inconvenient Scripture can be explained away, though... And other inconvenient Scripture fashioned into a club with which to beat others. Meanwhile some discussion seeds about humanitarian and animal welfare - i.e. unselfish - reasons for embracing vegetarianism fell on stony ground... Quote Truth is important

Aliensanctuary Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Are people here really cannibals? Would you take your dearly beloved Granny Smith and bake her in the oven with sugar and cinnamon or slice her up and dry her out in a dehydrator like I wanted to do? We've had a few unpleasant encounters, and she could be so tart that sometimes I wanted to poke her with a stick and dip her into a pot of sweet, melted caramel. Nothing could compare, though, to the giant pie we finally made out of her and her sisters. Yep, we skinned them and hacked out their innards and cut them up into little pieces and didn't even cry a tear when we ate them in that delicious Granny Smith pie.
