This explanation from the project may incite a greater response. About Us The youngest disciple of the original twelve was the apostle John. In his gospel, John portrays the personal side of Jesus, sharing those classic, one-on-one conversations depicting a Jesus "that knew the heart of man." That young disciple lived a life with Jesus and for Jesus, and, while imprisoned on the island of Patmos declared, "worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!" This beautiful vision, recorded in Revelation 5:12, is where our passion stems from. We are committed to the idea that a Jesus-driven, Jesus-bathed, Jesus-backed, Jesus-led, Jesus-filled, Jesus-powered, all-about-Jesus Adventist Church is the uncompromising directive from our past, the joy of our present, and hope for our future. We claim the Primal Adventist Impulse: a longing to be with Jesus. We believe pulpits, classrooms, worship halls, board rooms, living rooms - life! - should be drenched in the Spirit of Jesus. We crave a "High Christology" - where Jesus is fully honored as Creator, Savior, and Lord. We believe Jesus is the hope of the First Testament and inspiration for the Second. Theology - the study of God - is at its best in dedicated exploration of Jesus, who is "the image of God." We are convicted that he alone is The Desire of the Ages. All of them: the prelapsarian age and life after the fall; the antediluvian age and life after the flood; prehistoric times, the stone age, the classical age, the age of antiquity, the middle ages, the age of reason, the modern age and in this, our 21st Century Age. We love our church. And so we want the greatest gift for it... Jesus. The One Project seeks - through gatherings, conversations, web-based content, and Christ-focused publications - to stimulate preaching, worship, and adoration of Jesus within and through the Adventist church. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 6, 2014 Author Moderators Posted December 6, 2014 About a month ago, The One Project held a seminar in New Zealand. In the weeks preceding that Seminar, NZ Denominational officials were deluged with written material telling church officials what a bad group The One Project was and essentially how it was a tool of Satan. The One Project brought so many people back into fellowship with the Church that they are invited back in the coming years, if they can come. By way of interest: Across from the entry to the meeting place, two males sat dressed in sackcloth and with their faces smeared with ashes, which were in a bucket that they had with them. They informed people who asked why they were there that God had given them the message to protest that fact that drums were being played inside! If you are near San Diego and can come, attend this coming February. See what it is like. Quote Gregory
JoeMo Posted December 7, 2014 Posted December 7, 2014 Gregory, Does the One Project still do anything out of Boulder? I have tried to contact them via their website a couple times; and never got a response. Quote

If you do not receive the e-mail, have contact problems, let me know and/or send a direct e-mail link that will allow me to contact you directly. By the way, if you use the e-mail link that I sent you, you will receive a response. Quote Gregory
Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 7, 2014 Author Moderators Posted December 7, 2014 There is a registration fee for people to attend The One Project Seminars. There is a group discount of about 15%. for people who register by the end of December. I have been thinking: The Boulder SDA Church has some members who will go to San Diego. If you would like to go, perhaps their pastor would allow you to be placed on the group list from Boulder. You would pay the registration fee directly. But, by being placed on the Boulder group list, you would get the discount rate. If you would like to do this, let me know and I will give you a contact to the right person. Quote Gregory

Stan Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 I understand the one project is not a denomination 'party' so to speak but a group of Adventist leading out? Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 13, 2014 Author Moderators Posted December 13, 2014 Stan: Only partly correct. That is how it began. In some ways it is still an independent group. With the move of its administrative headquarters to Colorado, it is devoting effort and energy to formalize both its relationship to the denomination and to the type of organization that it is to become. Under the leadership of Japhet De Olivira, it is developing formal documents that tie it to the denomination and require that all leaders be active SDAs in good standing with the denomination. In addition it is developing a more formalized structure that places denominational administrators (General Conference, North American Division and local Conference) on the governing boards of The One Project. These placements amount to more than tokenism. I have personally reviewed some of those. Further, when The One Project conducts a seminar, such as they recently did in New Zealand, the coordinate very closely with local denominational officials. IOW Stan, The One Project is becoming more closely tied to the denomination that we typically see in other independent organizations which often operate at arms length from the denomination. There is one area in which the denomination is having to deal with an aspect that is different. The leaders of The One Project are not elected by any group and they do not serve for a specific amount of time. In addition, The One Project is able to raise funding independently. It is so interesting that this post seems to be promoting the one project. For ten weeks the Sabbath School class that I attend has been sounding the alarm that the One project is a new age repackaged form of spiritualism that is making inroads in the SDA Church. The SS teacher has a great set of DVD's, Bible study, and a wealth of Spirit of Prophecy material warning that the One Project should be avoided. What a contrast: in the TN SDA church the warning is being given to stay clear of the One Project, but on the unofficial SDA site there is information on how to get involved if you are in the San Diego area. Alas with every decision there are consequences. Good choices have blessings and evil ones punishment. But human nature is challenged to know who and what to believe when truth and danger are in opposition. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted December 14, 2014 Author Moderators Posted December 14, 2014 My comment is directed to the post of HCH, # 15. The majority of people who criticize The One Project appear to rely on secondary (or more) sources. There are many of these available--books, articles, DVDs, etc. It is those secondary sources that they cite. The generally fail to reference materials produced by The One Project. The generally do not give any indication that they have ever attended one of their meetings--I will acknowledge that many may not be able to afford to do so. The give no indication that they have had any personal communication with the leaders of The One Project as to the issues that they raise. The above is not in compliance with the Biblical standards which require people with issues to go directly to the person involved. The reliance on secondary sources lacks integrity as it often results in a distorted presentation of the facts. It is generally the most vocal critics that do this. I am personally aware of a number of people who have some concerns about The One Project. But, they have not reached the place where they are the vocal critics that you see posting on the Internet. Rather they have signed up to attend the next seminar in San Diego. I have independently confirmed that they have done as they said. I personally know of some of these people who have directly contact contacted leaders in The One Project to ask questions that concern them, to include scheduling meetings with such leaders. This is the Biblical standard for dealing with people who have concerns. This is a mode of addressing such concerns that reflects a level of integrity that is lacking in some of our most vocal critics. I have personally found that The One Project leadership to be open and transparent with me. In this thread I responded to a question from Stan in post # 14. I did not run that post by anyone prior to posting it. However, about 8 PM, last night I ran it by one of The One Project leaders for any corrections of statements that I have made in error. If I was wrong, I wanted to give him an opportunity to correct any error that I might have made. Sincere people can differ in their understandings. But following Biblical standards, and open communication and helps to prevent misunderstandings. I would encourage our vocal critics of The One Project to rely less on the secondary sources and to communicate with greater openness and transparency with the leadership of The One Project. In once talking to one of their leaders, he said to me that he is uncertain as to how much time he should devote to responding the critics and how that would limit the time that he had to give to doing what he believes God has called him to do. After all, at times Christ refused to respond to his critics. I will respond to that, and in this sense I am writing to leadership on The One Project. It may be too much to generate a new response to every person who asks a question. But, there are some common questions that are asked. The One Project could develop a common response to each of those questions. Those response would not have to be posted on a public website, although that could be done. They also could be prepared to sent directly to people who contact them with those questions. Quote Gregory
CoAspen Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Thanks Greg, Preconceptions are very hard to change, based on the history of the individual. But, one can make the attempt to present the 'facts' and then let the person make up their own mind. How much time is to be sent on that can be difficult to determine. The counsel spoken to an ancient person of note always comes to mind in such circumstances.....shake the dust off your feet and move on! Quote

JoeMo Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 The One Project appears to be a genuinely open-minded outreach. It looks like a work of faith that will require Divine support to succeed. As Gamaliel said about the new Jesus sect in Jerusalem. if it is not of God, it will fail. If it is of God, nothing will stop it from succeeding. At least they're doing something besides lamenting the hoards of people leaving the church. God wants us to reach out in faith. That involves risk - risk of failure, risk of criticism, risk of condemnation. I would rather take a risk for God than refuse Him out of fear or religious conformity. aka 1 Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted December 15, 2014 Administrators Posted December 15, 2014 I read the book the One Project produced. That really confirmed for me that the critics did not know what they were talking about. It really strikes as weird in a truly disturbing sense that a single-minded focus on Jesus should draw such resistance, criticism and even hostility from those claiming to be fellow Christians. Really? aka 1 Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."
