Matthew 24:14 (KJV)  "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."

Does this mean only SDA preaching, and SDA doctrine?  Or is the SDA church considered only part of the way the gospel is preached?

Question is ... What part of SDA preaching can be left out and you would then still be preaching the gospel of the kingdom?

I have no definitive answer Pam but Sister White wrote (someplace) that "whoever preaches Christ let him preach" The HS will follow up with the truth.

Just my 2-cents ...I shall defer to the more authoritative persons on this board :)

IMO, yes, anyone preaching the love of God is working for the kingdom. There is that Scripture that says that anyone desiring to do God's will shall know of the doctrine. I don't know of anyone who has gotten the entire message all in one go... but if the heart soil is fertile then the seed of truth (putting it in Bible language) will be cherished.

my question comes out of the fact, both historically and currently, that many Adventists self-flagellate over the fact that Christ has not returned yet - as if it is solely the fault of Seventh-day Adventists and our lack of faith, infighting, and/or unChristlike behavior that the Second Coming has not occurred..

It's not my view that the above is why Christ has not returned..

15even as the Father knows Me and I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep. 16"I have other sheep, which are not of this fold; I must bring them also, and they will hear My voice; and they will become one flock with one shepherd....John10

1“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the fold of the sheep, but climbs up some other way, he is a thief and a robber. 2“But he who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. 3“To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4“When he puts forth all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5“A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6This figure of speech Jesus spoke to them, but they did not understand what those things were which He had been saying to them.       7So Jesus said to them again, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep....John 10

4But what is the divine response to him? "I HAVE KEPT for Myself SEVEN THOUSAND MEN WHO HAVE NOT BOWED THE KNEE TO BAAL." 5In the same way then, there has also come to be at the present time a remnant according to God's gracious choice. 6But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.…Romans 11   Emphasis theirs'  LHC

The SDA Denomination clearly has a place in "end time."

But, that is not to say that the SDA denomination is alone in doing the work of God in End Time.

God has people inside the SDA church as well as outside the SDA Church.

God will use the SDA Church to accomplish God's will as will as use others to accomplish His will.

I give to several different "ministries".  One I really LIKE is the Jesus Film Ministry.  They are taking the gospel into the darkest areas of the planet.  The film uses actors to portray the story of Jesus, but the ONLY dialog in the movie is from the Gospel of Luke.  ONLY those words are used.  It's like SEEING the story, while hearing it in your heart language.  The film has been translated into hundreds of languages and dialects.  The movie is available free online, so that anyone - just riding a bus - can show the movie to someone riding next to him - in that person's language.

The Jesus Film Ministry has also produced a "Jesus Film" for women, called "Released from Shame".  It is the story of Mary Magdalene.  And a Jesus Film for children.

They are NON-Denominational.  They JUST want to tell the story of Jesus.  Personally - I believe they are doing a wonderful job.

I only see a few essential beliefs - essential FOR salvation.

1.  Believe that God exists.

2.  Believe that God sent His only begotten Son to this planet, to die for us.

3.  Believe that God can and will change you from the inside, giving you freedom from old sins.

4.  Show evidence of those beliefs in changed behavior.  Not perfect - just improved - towards loving one another.

There will be people in the Kingdom, with all sorts of "left-over" or "distorted" beliefs.

The LORD will teach us during the 1000 years.

Do our beliefs concerning the sleep state of man in death, and the nature of "HELL" make a difference.

Sure they do!  They make it easier for folks to TRUST in God.

They also protect them from some of the deceptions - like communication with the dead (actually demons).

Jesus did NOT say, "You must all be perfect before I can come back for you."  !!!

He did say, "And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come." (Mat 24:14 NKJ)

I've had a question for some time now.

How do we reach people with the Gospel?

Seems like the Jesus Film Ministry has been seeing some very good results - mostly in Third World countries.

From what I've read, a LOT of miracles accompany their film showings.

In the "educated" West, we have to overcome what is taught in the public schools - evolution, the Bible as myth, gay marriage, etc. etc. etc. etc.

But maybe that's no different from the ancient pagans firm belief in their "gods".

It's just that we have come to "worship" science (so called).

I believe it's about time for more miracles in our part of this world.

I know - Satan may counterfeit them, just like he did before the plagues in Egypt,

but there are SOME miracles that even Satan himself cannot counterfeit.

How do we reach people? By taking seriously the call to preach the first angels message which is the Gospel, its also the final instruction of Christ to the church.

As for the OP, Ellen White gave her personal reccomendation to the work of the Salvation Army in their evangalism efforts. James White told the growing SDA denomination not to plant churches near Seventh Day Baptist Churches who he viewed as doing the same work in evangelism and wanted to work with them not against them.

I heard a SDA minister from the Phillipines talking about the spread of the Gospel across the world and he spoke directly of the work of Pentecostal churches in this area. So to the OP, not SDA preaching and not soley SDA theology.

As time goes on, I think the Commandments of God and the faith of Jesus will [increasingly] become a line that separates the people of God and the people of the world.

A comment from Mrs. White

"I saw that we are the only people upon the earth from whom God is to get glory, and if we should hold our peace the very stones would cry out, for God must receive glory from some of those who dwell upon the earth. The only company who can praise and honor God, I saw, are those who are keeping the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus..." (5Manuscript Release p.238)

Not to mention the description of those who will at last find their home in Heaven.

12Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus. 13And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on!'" "Yes," says the Spirit, "so that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow with them."....Revelation 14

There are other's BESIDES Seventh-day Adventists, who rest on the Sabbath, and try to keep all of commandments of God,

AND who also believe in Jesus as the Christ who died for us.

So I HOPE you are not saying that Adventists are the ONLY people who give glory to God and His Son.

Rachel,

I agree that others besides SDA's endeavour to keep Sabbath, and have the same kind of faith that Jesus lived by. But I do believe that SDA's will, in the end, stand alone. The quote I posted --  "I saw that we are the only people upon the earth from whom God is to get glory..." suggests to me that we will stand alone, and that we will not be reckoned among the churches.

But of course this does not mean that the SDA church will not face serious issues "in-house". Internal strife will continue, practically right up until the end.

______________

A second thought if I may...

When explaining His work, Jesus said,

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

For I have come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.  And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."(Matthew 10:34-36)

As a people, our message is not one of peace and safety.

Our work will set people "at variance", because truth is divisive.

We carry "swords". The Sabbath issue is a divisive issue, health reform is a divisive issue, the Investigative Judgment, and the state of the dead, are divisive issues. The "office" of Ellen White is a divisive issue. We will inevitably provoke, but in our work we cannot afford to rise up and engage in strife. We cannot afford to retaliate. How we need peace in us! the peace which does not feel the need to justify the stance we have taken. If we are annoyed, let's think it best to yield. "The servant of the Lord must not strive" (2Tim 2:24). If someone bites us, and it feels like the bite of a "fiery serpent", then we need to raise our eyes to Jesus.

1 Corinthians 12 seems to lead up to not only identifying who can be involved in the finishing the work of the gospel, but also leads to 1 Corinthians 13 which identifies the attributes that are most important.

2You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led. 3Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit. 4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.…1 Corinthians 12

And while the doing of the work is important, the most important seems to be submission to something or Someone leading up to fulfillment in the individual's life as related by this below.

25"Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26"Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27"I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances.…Ezekiel 36

There are five gospels being taught within the Adventist Church. Paul states that there is only one gospel.  All other gospels bring error (false doctrine) and confusion.

The truth as it is in Christ is the everlasting gospel....Only SDA are preaching that, sad to say.

A fulfillment of prophecy.

26"And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: 27they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all....Luke 17

27Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, "THOUGH THE NUMBER OF THE SONS OF ISRAEL BE LIKE THE SAND OF THE SEA, IT IS THE REMNANT THAT WILL BE SAVED; 28FOR THE LORD WILL EXECUTE HIS WORD ON THE EARTH, THOROUGHLY AND QUICKLY."…Romans 9   Emphasis theirs' LHC

I don't think anyone here is saying that there are no Christians (and Christian ministers) within Babylon. I would have no hesitation in saying that the majority of Christians worship outside of the SDA denomination.

BUT, if the three angel's messages of Revelation 14 really do constitute the "precursor" to Jesus' Second Coming, then those that are preaching the three angel's messages are the ones [really the only ones] that have the power to hasten or hinder Jesus' return.

If the "three angel's messages" are not needed, then of course our faith is in vain... But in my view we still understate the importance and the relevance of those messages. I believe that we were raised up at the right time, primarily to learn [and to deliver] the messages contained in Revelation 14. Of course the proclamation of the everlasting gospel is referred to in the First Angel's message, but there are two other things (pieces) that follow. Or more correctly, there are two other pieces to be added, because the First Angel's voice is not to be silenced, even when the Second and Third Angels add their harmonious voices to his.

Here's the link to my post concerning WHY I do NOT BELIEVE that an investigative judgment began in Heaven back in 1844.

I put it in Robert's thread on "The Three Angels Messages" but it has relevance here.

In order to answer the question, it  seems to me that we must define what the "gospel" is first.  Is the RCC preaching the gospel?  The Baptists?  Presbyterians?  etc.

There's a big difference between who is doing a good job of preaching Jesus "now," and who will be doing a good job of preaching Jesus at the End of Time when the Mark of the Beast is in place and the Loud Cry goes out -- at the present time GOD wants everybody on the path coming towards Him, but at the End He will only accept worship from those who do it "in spirit and in Truth," i.e., those who have all the doctrines correct. Now GOD "winks" at a lot of error that is taught, but don't kid yourself, He doesn't like error! Unfortunately, most believers join their various denominations and then choose to stay there -- they don't realize that the church they joined is just supposed to be a stepping stone to a better church with even more Light...

Sister White wrote that people are "binding themselves into bundles to be burned" by joining the wrong churches or groups of mislead believers -- and the truth is that at some time the LORD stops "winking" because those people are supposed to grow spiritually and be able to discern the Truth, which includes believing and preaching the correct doctrines.

doctrine

noun

a belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a church, political party, or other group: the doctrine of predestination.

So who is teaching the correct 'doctrines' and who is the author of such? Where in the Bible is 'doctrine/s' listed?
