This type of thing, the shootings, could happen anywhere and anytime now that mass-murdering Islamists are crawling out from underneath the rocks and killing good people. Too bad there has been a [theN-word]-hating culture around the USA for far too many years. While Earthly justice may not prevail, God's justice will punish the guilty and comfort the victims.

After Dylann Storm Roof allegedly shot up an AME church in Charleston, S.C., killing nine people, two flags were lowered more than 100 miles away in Columbia, the state’s capital. Atop the South Carolina State House, the U.S. flag and South Carolina’s palmetto flag flew at half-staff as the manhunt for Roof ended with his capture in North Carolina and prayer vigils were planned. The show of respect would have been appropriate even if one of the state legislature’s own — state senator Clementa C. Pinckney — had not died in the attack.

 

So then that means that the real flags that stand for the nation and that stand for the state of SC - were lowered. But the one that is simply a relic of the past - the one that is flown on behalf of no state or nation - is only in novelty 'relic status' having no nation that marches under it -- in mourning, was not changed... it is merely a relic. And since it is merely a relic flag - in this case the governor has no say in what it does - rather the SC general assembly must vote on it.

So now it is a complaint about the SC general assembly.. and what percent of that governing body is part of the black caucus/ Do people even know before they issue the complaint?

The 2013-2015 Caucus consists of thirty nine (39) members of the South Carolina General Assembly (11 in the Senate and 28 in the House)..

I think there are enough to get a motion on the floor to lower the confederate flag to half-staff in this case where their assembly alone dictates what can/should happen to it. Maybe they just did not care about the relic .. maybe they had bigger concerns in this case. Maybe they were looking for substantive answers, change, solution.

There seems to be a lot of interest in moving it to a more museum like location than the current  one - fine. Will they be lowering it in that museum? There are a number of civil war museums - do they all lower their flags after such events. Is there such a thing as PC-symbolism looking for any excuse to complain?

Any killing is tragic - and is to be mourned - I don't care what color the victims are - it is a sad thing.
