GayatfootofCross Posted August 31, 2015 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) We as Christians may have caught a glimpse of God's Great Condescension for us sinners but don't understand a God of Great CONCESSIONS(!) which would have to be a great part of Condescension. Here are examples: The ideal is one wife for life and loving her like Jesus loves and dies for the Church. Everything outside of that does not hit the mark (SIN) and Yet God gives in and gives in and Gives In! Its an Aspect of HIS Selfless Supernatural Love we don't really understand. Oh the Depths of Love for all Sinners. WE don't realize what Real Wholeness looks like and what God puts up with our lack of Love for HIM and Others. A thousand concessions daily for all of us. It is not our prerogative to judge others esp. when good christian straights cherry pick daily in behavior and attitude from one moment to the next. Sometimes I see Christians think their Sanctification would be complete (or be better Christians) if they divorce one and marry another.. And GOD is still with them and loving them and looking at them without condemnation. God hates divorce cause what it does to us and our children and family and friends and Church . And concedes to His Holy Nation fresh from Egypt back then and to us at present -And leads them on .Man... What a GOD! u see the God of Concessions in the Garden of Edenu see HIM talking to Moses U see HIM granting Divorce ( Breaking a Sacred Covenant with Each Other ) U see HIM letting His Nation having a KING (1 Samuel 8 and the downside God shares later in this chapter) Concubines and extra Wifes Chariots for War After God could have said no no no..if u do that I will Go! (it almost happened but God Gave HIS HEART to Moses to Intercede) Amazing! What we basically have seen is anytime HIS People fail .. U see God finding a way to still woo them back... and sometimes there is a lot of conceding to achieve that GOD sees HIS Church failing on how to treat other people or even each other. And still has not left you. well....GOD has a plan thru all this evil that just won't go away! CONCESSIONS:HE has done iT beforegrant a divorce...give a king...send someone else...die at their hands...and yet.. HIS GLORY SHINES EVEN MORE! God granted divorce cause of Hardness of heart ..and still works with YOU! You still get your new wife! You don't have to drop the new and get with the EX! ..and God still greets you every morning with a Kiss on your Cheek. Concessions for Life! God gives us what we want but sends leanness of soul yet still Works with you All. He still worked with Men who gets to have sex with different ladies (David.Jacob etc). And the next day after that. and after that. !!! Still works with you after selfishness and disgust of other people. And a second after that.. and years of it after that. Everyday Going over the speed limit. Yelling at drivers from inside you car. God is still Covering you. Keep wrongly thinking God's Voice sounds like your angry father. or feeling sorry for yourself. God does not take off. Excessive Worrying and Bad Health Habits and Never confessing faults to one another. Compartmentalizing and Coping Skills that have nothing to do with Tools GOD gives thru His Scriptures and the Body Of Christ. Paul emphasizes Be Ye Kind to one another over and over again and many have a problem with that one (at least on a deep sincere level) yet.. ... Yet ... God still saving you! WOW what a Great GOD cause HE gets us! He understand! He made us for goodness sakes!!!!!! If we don't Understand this complex Attribute of LOVE..Of GOD we may not get just how really sinful we really are. A God of Concessions is all over The Bible. And all over YOU! ............................................................................................................................................................ Flashback to the 1960's A Good Father has great expectations for his newly collage graduated Good Son. The Good Son falls in love with a woman who was Married before and she didn't have biblical grounds for divorce. She also has two boys from two different men. The Good Father is against him marrying her. Does he refuse to go to the wedding? Does The Good Father refuse to see his new grandaughter literally 9 months and 17 days later? At family holiday get togethers -should The Good Father reiterate they should not be married over and over again? Is that how A Good Christian Father/Grandfather to be? Ignore the two young boys of six and five from two different men? Continually look down and treat the Daughter in law with disdain. "You ruined my only Good Son! He could have had a Good Virgin to marry!" (a woman without a sordid past..I guess)Life is not easy for the young couple. Instantly a father of three inside of 10 months! .. not making enough money (he worked for his dad who begrudgingly gave him money under the table barely enough to afford the basics. The Good Father gave out of passive aggressive resentment. The Good Father sent The Good Son to a local University to be a CPA with the silent understanding that he would work off the education in service for the rest of his life (it seems). For years this man refused to go to visit his son's family living in the same town (four blocks away). The Good Father only sees His Good Son at the office. No one think The Good Father was a Christian, watching this all unfold for yearsO yes! The Good Father has biblical grounds to reject this arrangement .. but the Fruit put forth is rotting. GayatfootofCross Posted August 31, 2015 Author Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) I chose the Topic of Divorce to highlight cause it hits home and something many Christians can identify with. Other biblical examples People don't mostly identify with ( like Chariots of War ). Though I gave plenty of examples of God concessions in modern life. There are other Modern examples I will leave out so the Thread don't get hijacked. ..but of course... Outta Here Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 You're welcome GFC. I appreciate your presentation in this thread. It is surely comforting to know that "God demonstrates His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) I have to wonder, how can a sinner who has come to repentance ask for forgiveness not knowing that God is a God of Concessions? Why would they even invest more time in their studies to learn to do His will if they don't first believe that He'd forgive? I am reminded of a time long, long ago when I first studied the Lord's Prayer. The line, "Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us" confused me as a child. I thought that it meant that God would only forgive us our sins as much as we were able to forgive others. And I thought if that was true, I'd never be forgiven because I had a lot of forgiving of others to do. I asked my Lutheran pastor what it meant and he assured me that it could easily read, "Forgive us our trespasses even as we should forgive those who trespass against us." And that little clarification has made a world of difference for me. John 6:40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.” GayatfootofCross 1 Quote
GayatfootofCross Posted September 1, 2015 Author Posted September 1, 2015 (edited) Just another recent thought here ...regarding divorce and adultery and immortality and re marriage David when Repented and Kingship and Restoration and Everything (Psalms 51)... he didn't go back to his first wife (according to Scriptures). He rode off into the Sunset with the Woman He Cheated with! A GOD of Concessions! LOL ( and the SEED past thru the Generations) Ahhh Maazing BTW I am more against divorce online more than anybody I know. I never been married and I can be so smug. LifeHiscost Posted September 1, 2015 Posted September 1, 2015 However if I had it to do over, I would rather not have to go through the trial and tribulation I've gone through that has been directly attributable to God's amazing grace, used to polish me after wading through the sewage of this world. pnattmbtc Posted September 2, 2015 Posted September 2, 2015 I've thought a lot about divorce as an example of God's giving in due to the hardness of man's heart, as an example of other things (specifically chariots of war). People can get a wrong idea of God's character because of these concessions, but we see the truth about God revealed in Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "I do the things I see see my Father do" and "I say the things I hear my Father say." Where did Jesus see and hear these things? From the Scriptures. Somehow Jesus was able to read the Scriptures differently than the rest of us, and see a God who is incredibly beautiful, and thankfully presented His image of God so that we could all see it, and wonder, as He did. I think the OP, God of concessions, is one of the keys to "getting" God's character; not all the Scripture reveals God doing is God's will (i.e. "perfect" or "ultimate" will). Only in Jesus Christ do we see that! GayatfootofCross and teresaq 2 Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.

Lauralea Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 David lost 4 sons as a result of what he did. Probably they were lost eternally. Plus his daughter was miserable. At least one son David would have rather died himself. It says so in the Scripture. The way of the transgressor is hard. If you think it is easier to lose 4 kids than die yourself, ask a parent. David repented so he will be in heaven but one of the biggest problems with what he did inspiration tells us it would make others have a wrong idea of God. And the Bible says not to break up a marriage to go back to an ex but heart repentance is vital. God judges the hearts. It is true we cannot do this but God can so we should not take these or other sins lightly in our own hearts minds or behavior. Repentance and forgiveness is different than saying the past lifestyle was fine with the Lord. GayatfootofCross 1 Quote Behold what manner of love the Father hath given unto us.
GayatfootofCross Posted September 26, 2015 Author Posted September 26, 2015 (edited) I agree, Lauralea! I met a SDA man who wanted to go into ministry but he believed he had to divorce his current wife and go back to his first. I tried to tell him he didn't have to do that but from his Church culture it was held out. I ran with a rough group that believes NEVER DIVORCE no matter what. Something about home headship espoused in Bill Gothard Ministries (Basic Institute for Basic Life Principles). I went with my Church to see him for a Seminar for a weekend in Sacramento 30 years ago. There is scripture saying not to remarry an ex spouse also. People. Danny Shelton religiously backed up his divorce and remarriage. But I digress. I have no dog in this race, I never married, Thank GOD! So I expect I wont be getting a divorce anytime soon. The OP is not about divorce..I used it as an example that way too many Christians might identify with to bring a point home. It is also not about excusing sin. It is about God's dealing with us in regard to this facet of Love that I hardly ever ever see in any conversation about HIM. soooooooooooooooo i brought it up I could have focused more on JUDGING,SELF RIGHTEOUSNESS and GOSSIP (to pontificate against) that God puts up with and still loves on us. The Good Father only sees His Good Son at the office. No one think The Good Father was a Christian, watching this all unfold for yearsO yes! The Good Father has biblical grounds to reject this arrangement .. but the Fruit put forth is rotting. CONCESSIONS!God also has the same dilemmadivorce?kingship of Israel?getting Moses to be His own mouthpiece?slavery?the Garden of Eden?women and wife abuse?violence?polygamy?what is God supposed to do with the children?now lets turn the spotlight on the people here over and over again God produces good fruit at all times -it would be rotting fruit if every time (over the years) His Good Church came over on holidays .. he sulked in the corner, ignoring the family at best or going out of his way to pull out the Holy Scriptures at every moment to the scared kids and hated on wife and beleaguered husband cause he still has biblical grounds(some christians are very much like that and everyone is joyless around them)we are His Children and He works with Usto move us up in character and faith He Comes Under to Serve to Woo and to Win overand to dieand that is that kind of love that finally focuses and changes our hearts to be more like HIMTHE SCANDAL OF GRACE PEOPLE! Love hardly Notices when you do something wrong! ! Cor 13:5 God is calling His Church to Mirror This kind of GOD! epiloguemy grandfather died in his sleep at he age of 76 never warming up to me and my brother and my mom. the pattern he started on moral grounds and wanting best for his son could not translate to love or joy or kindness in his home. my parents will be married 48 years at the end of the year. God Bless You All i appreciate this post. sin does not separate God from us, it separates us from God... i don't know if this makes sense to anyone. sin blinds us, but God is not blinded by sin. He remains the same yesterday today and forever, loving and gracious and merciful. He cannot remove all the impacts of sin on our lives but he will never remove his love towards us, even if we perish he does not cease to be loving. in mercy we warns us and labors to save us from ourselves in our poverty of soul and blindness and ignorance... pnattmbtc Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 (edited) sin does not separate God from us, it separates us from God... i don't know if this makes sense to anyone. Yes, makes sense. We see Jesus was separated from others by their sin. The complaint of the pharisees was "this man fellowships with sinners". But sin causes us to think things about God which aren't true, which is seen from the very beginning, where Adam and Eve ran and hid from God (who surely was Jesus Christ). Why would anyone run and hide from Jesus? It doesn't make sense, apart from the tricks sin plays on the mind. Consider the scene at the temple. The money changers couldn't get away quick enough, but at the same time children were approaching Jesus to sit on His lap! If we could only see how good God is, and how bad sin is. Edited October 18, 2015 by pnattmbtc teresaq and GayatfootofCross 2 Quote Christ exalted the character of God, attributing to him the praise, and giving to him the credit, of the whole purpose of his own mission on earth,--to set men right through the revelation of God.
teresaq Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 If we could only see how good God is, and how bad sin is. Both are true, both are essential, but I think the last is the most not known, the hardest to get to. To even know what sin is without spouting platitudes. Sin is destructive not just to others but to oneself also even ones not easily recognized such as pride, callous, cold.... Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
Wingnut Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Acts 17..... 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at ; but now commandeth all menevery where to repent : 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness God winks, or turns a blind eye to - you are right that God is a God of concessions. We have all earned the wages of sin which is death. So God has to make concessions and extend grace, for now, or we all would be toast. Not such a good strategy to deliberately do what one knows to be sinful behaviour. This sears one's conscience and comes close to tempting God. It is important that we worship God out of a clear conscience - and to do this we need to root out private sin. And God will help us do that. aka and phkrause 2 Quote
