If not all sins were forgiven on the cross, and if one commits sin now, will that sin separate him from God again? Please explain your answer and cite Biblical basis, if possible.

We know from Scripture that it doesn't separate us from God's love. More importantly is what sin does in our own hearts to separate us from Him.

Scripture that shows that our sins can seperate us from God ...

"Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.  But your iniquities have separated  you from your God;  your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear." (Is 59:1-2)

But it is not God who pulls away from us, it is us who pull away from God.

"... God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Heb. 13:5)

I do NOT BELIEVE that "all sins" past/present/future of all the people who would come into existence, WERE FORGIVEN, when Christ died on the cross.

I believe that He WON the right to forgive sins.  He won the authority, to forgive those who came in humility, asking for forgiveness.

DID HE then "forgive all sins" - as soon as He came forth from His grave ?  No.

The Father does NOT judge.  Jesus judges - and the Father then forgives those for whom Christ pleads.

Christ was made "head of all things to the church".  He is NOT YET "head of" the world.  He will receive THAT "dominion" at the conclusion of the Daniel 7:9-10 judgment scene.

WHEN he is given "dominion" of this entire earth, THEN He will judge and execute those who have knowingly lived in rebellion against His Father, without repentance.

If one commits sin now (with awareness) - and does not confess that sin, asking for forgiveness with the humble intention of true repentance - THEN those sins will ultimately separate him from God.  The reason is NOT that Gods patience wears out.  The reason is because the person resisting, becomes numb to the Spirit's influence or conviction.  He stops asking for forgiveness.  He stops caring.  There is nothing more that God can do.

"The LORD bears long." (EGW) He does not immediately "cut off" even the chronic sinner, who was once a believer and one of His sheep.  And He even said that - if they would seek Him with repentance and humility - they would be accepted BACK.  This of course, has to take place before death.

When the LORD withdrew His protection of Judah, and allowed the Babylonians to conquer and capture - it was NOT because they had worn out His patience.  It was NOT because "probation" had closed for every citizen of Judea.  The LORD was using this "whip", trying to wake them up, to get them back.

When He withdrew His protection of Israel however (the 10 tribes), and they were obliterated (as a nation) by Assyria, and dispersed among other nations, it was BECAUSE (1) there was nothing more God could do, to save individuals - IF they remained as a nation under the control of idolatrous, and rebellious Kings, AND because (2)  They were giving GOD a bad name (making Him appear weak).   Most of those who actually still believed in Yahweh, migrated down into Judea before the Assyrians came.

The mafia would keep a priest on retainer, to administer "last rites", and to "hear confession".  They BELIEVED - sincerely, that sins must be confessed.  They just didn't believe that they must also be FORSAKEN.  There was no repentance.  They thought that God was OBLIGATED to forgive, IF they asked in the name of Jesus, with sincerity.

Did Jesus death BUY forgiveness for every sin of every human being?  Was the Father than OBLIGATED to forgive all sin?  I do not believe so.

Jesus did not BUY forgiveness.  He BOUGHT or WON, the right to forgive.

I believe it is ALL about "dominion".  It's about Jesus recovering "dominion" over this earth - the "dominion" which Adam lost.

With "dominon" of earth and everything on the earth (including all the people), comes the right to judge, and to execute judgment, and also to forgive.

"Separated from God - Again ?"

Some folks would understand you to be refuting "Once Saved - Always Saved" - the belief that folks who have believed and have been baptized can then fall away from faith, and be ultimately lost.

But that's not what you're teaching.  You're saying that every human begins life - "saved" - written into the Book for Eternal Life, because of what Jesus would do/ and did do, on the cross.   During the lifetime of most, but not all, of these people, they will be tested to see whether they will "overcome evil with good" (with Jesus' help of course).  If they FAIL to do this, then their names will be 'blotted out" from the Book of Life.

So Samie - you're saying that a person can only be separated from God ONCE.  Right?

I'm saying that human beings BEGIN LIFE SEPARATED from God - because we are descendants of Adam, and he was separated.  "Born in sin" comes to mind.

We "join" the LORD's "flock", by faith, when we believe.  After than - we either remain part of His flock, or we choose to leave.

Our initial condition of separation was not our CHOICE.  Our final condition - to come to Christ, to remain within Christ, or to remain separated from Christ - that one is our CHOICE.

SEPARATED from God

Ephesians 2:11 “Therefore, remember that formerly you who are Gentiles by birth and called "uncircumcised" by those who call themselves "the circumcision" (which is done in the body by human hands)-- 12 remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world” (NIV).

Doesn’t sound very “justified” or very “saved”.
The Scriptures present mankind as initially:

“lost” (Matthew 18:11, Luke 19:10)             “gone astray” like sheep (Isaiah 53:6)
“sinners” (Romans 3:23, 5:8, 5:12)              “carnal” “sold under sin” (Romans 7:14)
“alienated and enemies” of God (Colossians 1:20)
“by nature children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3)
“without hope and without God” (Ephesians 2:11-12)
condemned to death (I Corinthians 15:21, Romans 5:12)
“dead in trespasses and sin” (Ephesians 2:1,5)

Why would God need to win the right to forgive sins?  God is the party that was offended.  The offended party always has the right to forgive the offending party.

I don't see the problem here has anything to do with God.  God has no problem forgiving anybody, anytime.  The problem is, as you stated, hitting the nail on the head, "There was no repentance."  Without repentance, there can be no forgiveness received.  The offended party can forgive, but the offending party can not receive forgiveness without repentance, the same way it works between people.  So without repentance, there can be no reconciliation.  The offending party can "confess" their sins (in quotes, because true confession involves repentance), but they are in no way changed, so have no more love for God, or His principles, than  before their profession.  To quote from EGW:

A life of rebellion against God has unfitted them for heaven. Its purity, holiness, and peace would be torture to them; the glory of God would be a consuming fire. They would long to flee from that holy place. They would welcome destruction, that they might be hidden from the face of Him who died to redeem them. The destiny of the wicked is fixed by their own choice. Their exclusion from heaven is voluntary with themselves, and just and merciful on the part of God.

It's not about what God wants to do - forgive.  It's about what He can legally do - with in Law.

TO PUT IT VERY SIMPLY

God gave "dominion" to mankind on condition of obedience.

Mankind gave it to Satan, through disobedience, and Satan took over.

God said that He could forgive them, BECAUSE Eve was deceived, and Adam did it (not so much against God) but because He was afraid of loosing Eve.

Jesus - by perfect obedience - became the human that God could GIVE the dominion back to.

Jesus will then share that dominion with "His saints".

I understand you as saying a baby is born separated from God and not in the Lord's flock; and that a man in the Lord's flock, when he commits sin now is not separated from God RIGHT AWAY. He is still in the Lord's flock.

It goes without saying that the sinning man is in a better position than a little child because the sinning man is still in the Lord's flock while the little child is not in the Lord's flock.

How would you evaluate your position in view of what our Savior Himself said?

KJV Matthew 18:1-3  At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?  2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,  3 And said,Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

KJV Matthew 19:13-14   13 Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.  14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.

It appears that the little children (who you say are not in the Lord's flock) in the verses above are better off than His disciples who are in the Lord's flock.  Looks like this is the opposite of what I understand you as saying.

Can you please explain?

We have debated this whole issue of young children again, and again, and again.  You just keep posting the SAME verses, and the SAME arguments.

So I'll post the same arguments also, just in case some new person here, actually reads this thread.

Jesus said, "You MUST be born again."  "Flesh and blood CANNOT INHERIT the Kingdom of God."  It is not enough to be physically born into this world.

One MUST come into a relationship with God, through the indwelling of His Spirit.  The spirit of Christ ENTERS when we "open the door" by responding in a positive way, with belief (faith).  And we have said at least a dozen times, "faith in Jesus Christ" is NOT WORK (Gal 2:16).  It is a gift from God, but it must be received, or accepted, for one to be "in Christ".

Romans 16:7  [Paul writing] “Greet Andronicus and Junia, my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.”

John 1:12  “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:”

So - young children, and ignorant pagans ARE NOT, or ARE NOT YET, "children of God".

Jesus said, "I know My sheep."  "My sheep HEAR My voice."  Those who do NOT hear His voice, are NOT "His sheep".

I believe that Jesus was describing the ATTITUDE of His true disciples - NOT their age.  We are to become "like" little children - completely trusting.

You do know that little children are thoroughly selfish - right?  I don't believe he wanted us to be like them in THAT way.

May I know whose choice and the Biblical basis for it?

Galatians 3:22 “But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.”

The promise of eternal life is given to “those who believe” - to those who have faith in Jesus Christ.  It is not given to everyone.

Young children CANNOT believe, because they CANNOT hear with understanding.  One must HEAR the truth, before one can BELIEVE it.

Romans 10:14 “But how are they to call on One in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in One of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim Him?” (NRS)

Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.” (NRS)

Hearing the gospel message - is essential!
Millions of human beings have died without any knowledge of God or of His Son.  They must be resurrected, so that they can hear.

I believe they will resurrected with "the rest of the dead" at the 8th millennium.  THEN they will HEAR the Gospel, and LEARN the ways of the LORD.  THEN they will CHOOSE either to trust in God, with obedience, OR they will CHOOSE to rebel at Gog/Magog.

All of those who knowingly remained rebellious during this 6000 year age from Adam to the Second Coming, will be resurrected, and judged at the Second Coming, and will then left to die in the last plagues.  There is no reason to resurrect them AGAIN, to judge them AGAIN, and to execute them painfully AGAIN.

So whose choice was man's condition of being born separated from God, if indeed he is?  Your response did not quite specify whose choice it is.  Gal 3:22 appears not to say anything about it, does it?  It only speaks of Scriptures confining all under sin, and of giving the promise by faith to those who believe but nothing on whose choice was man's condition of being born separated from God. So with Rom 10:14, 17.

Can you please give a specific answer?

If I were to answer this, then, for me, to be separated from God is to be NOT written in the Book of Life and to be NOT separated from God is to be written in the Book of Life. And I think I have discussed the importance of being written in the Book of Life in the thread "Understanding the Gospel through the Book of Life".

God gave "dominion" of earth to man, on condition of obedience.

Did they UNDERSTAND there was a "condition" ?   Well - we don't know all that the LORD explained to them, but we do KNOW that God said, "Thou shalt NOT eat of it.  In the day that you eat of it dying you will die."

So you could say the separation was God's CHOICE.  He created them, and He gave the Law that determined the consequences for disobedience.  God can DO what He does NOT WANT to do - separate from his own children.

I think Mrs White calls it "a great gulf".  That sounds like "separation" to me.

Eve did NOT knowingly CHOOSE to die.  Satan convinced her that God had lied somehow, and she would not really die.

Adam believed they would die, but he could not bear to be separated from Eve, and he CHOSE to share her fate.

THIS is why God could save them.  They did not sin rebelliously - with attitude (as Satan did).  Eve was deceived, and Adam did it for love of Eve.   Their motivation mattered.

WHEN Adam/Eve disobeyed, God withdrew His special protection, and Satan took over.  He stole the dominion.

You COULD say that Satan chose to take over.  But then Adam/Eve CHOSE to steal what God had forbidden.  And they had HEARD the penalty for same.

Eve did not EXPECT or knowingly CHOOSE to be separated from God.  It was the consequence of serving Satan, rather than the LORD.

Adam thought they would be separated, but I'm sure he hoped there was a way out.

Those who are ultimately "cut off" did not WANT to be "cut off".  They did not knowingly CHOOSE to be "cut off".  They choose NOT to believe God, that this is the consequence of that CHOICE.

It's like people in prison did not knowingly CHOOSE to go to prison where they would be SEPARATED from normal society.  They deceived themselves into thinking that they could do what they wanted and somehow escape the consequences.

Dominion was lost because of disobedience.  Dominion was WON back by Jesus Christ, because of His perfect obedience (That's Philippians 2:5-11 & Daniel 7:14) .

Jesus will share HIS dominion with His sheep.  (That's Daniel 7:23.)

So - who chose the separation?  God - because it was the consequence of His Law.  Satan - because that's what he wanted for mankind - to separate them from God.  Eve - unwittingly.  Adam - foolishly, but still hoping that the LORD would modify the penalty.

Adam's CHOICE was applied to all of his descendants.  If the Father and Mother are slaves, the children are also slaves.  The descendants INHERITED Adam's fallen, carnal nature.

What would it mean for an infant to be separated from God?  Or not separated from God?

It means that an infant is born with a "carnal" or "fallen", or "fleshly" nature.  "The carnal mind is an enemy of God" (Rom 8:7).   Only the indwelling of the Spirit makes one unselfish, and the Spirit will not "come in" uninvited, or unbidden.  We must "open the door" by responding to the Spirit's "knock".

Parents may pray that their children will be protected from Satan and his evil ones, but that is not the same thing as a changed "nature".

It means that the infant is BORN into a world that is under the domination of Satan.  (Christ has not yet received dominion of earth.  That will be Daniel 7:14.)

God is omnipresent.  Yet He limits the exercise of His power.  This whole EARTH is dying, and God has permitted this.  Human beings are hating and killing, and using one another, and God has permitted this.  He does NOT OVERPOWER the exercise of our free will.  He ALLOWS humans to resist His spirit.

God (and Jesus) speaks of those things that are NOT YET - as if they ARE.

Romans 4:17  “God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;”

These people did not yet exist, as sheep within His "one fold".

Jesus is simply saying that there are other people who WILL RESPOND when He calls them.  He speaks of them as if they are already part of His flock, BECAUSE he knows that they will respond.  When Jesus spoke these words, He said this because His Father told Him that many others would respond to His call.

It's the same reason why Jesus said, "All authority is given unto me - in Heaven and in earth".   He had not yet - not at that point - been given this authority (dominion), but he spoke as if it had been, BECAUSE He knew that this would be the SURE and CERTAIN, OUTCOME.

Hebrews 2:8 "'You have put all things in subjection under his feet.' For in that He put all in subjection under him, He left nothing that is not put under him. But now we do not yet see all things put under him" (NKJ)

It is also possible that the "other sheep" were people who HAD responded to the Spirit of God, insofar as they were able, with limited knowledge.  They may have been searching to know God.  These people would definitely be "His sheep" BECAUSE they had responded to the drawing of the Spirit.  These "other sheep" are NOT described as young children.

So - who chose the separation?  God - because it was the consequence of His Law.  Satan - because that's what he wanted for mankind - to separate them from God.  Eve - unwittingly.  Adam - foolishly, but still hoping that the LORD would modify the penalty.

To my question “Whose choice was man’s condition of being born separate from God , if indeed he is?”,  you have FOUR (4) answers: God, Satan, Eve, Adam.

Let us try to analyze your answer. But first, it had to be pointed out that as per Scriptures, man’s birth is God’s will, God’s choice.   Scripture references will be provided upon request.

I think Adam & Eve do not belong to the group. They did not choose to be created in the first place.  And before being created, they cannot choose to be born separate from God.

We are then left with God and Satan.

Let us consider God first.  Was it God’s choice that people are born separate from Him?  Let’s start with the very first man from God’s hands, Adam.  Scriptures say that God created man in His image. That does not sound like Adam was “born” separate from God, does it?  And there are, ohhh so plenty, of verses in Scriptures that testify as to what God’s choice for man is.  Here’s one of the plenty, I surmise you and many others more in this forum, likewise know:

NKJ Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Sounds like God’s choice for man is for him NOT to be separate from Him.  And to think that He had chosen us In Him before the foundation of the world!!!  Before we were born, His choice is for us to be IN HIM, not separate from Him:

KJV Ephesians 1:3-5   3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  4 According as he hath chosen us IN HIM before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:  5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will

Let’s deal with Satan.

Was it really Satan’s choice that man be born separate from God?  If so,  then, when God decided that I, Samie, be born, God gave in to Satan’s choice that I be born separate from Him?  But He could have not given in to the adversary’s choice.  He cannot be compelled to. And to think that He SO LOVED the world, and that includes me, Samie!  Why give in to the adversary He knows only wants the opposite of what is good?  Sorry, but to use your often-used phrase, “makes no sense at all”.

But you could be right, that it was Satan’s choice, who knows. But definitely NOT God’s.  And because you teach that it was Satan’s choice, I'm really sorry but would it not appear that Satan and you are on the same side of the fence in this issue?
