That's not what Peter said when Jesus asked him who He was, and Peter was blessed by the Father because of his reply. Believing that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, is a simple and basic truth that must be received and believed in order to pass from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of God's son. That is, why would knowing a certain fact, actually any given fact, be important in terms of our relation to God, unless it has something to do with His character? The reason it is important to know God's character is because how we see God impacts how we relate to Him. In order to be reconciled to God, we need to know something of His character and love, as it is His goodness which leads us to repentance. Without repentance, we cannot be reconciled to God, by which I mean, become friends of God, in harmony with God's heart and purpose. If our knowledge of some given fact furthers this process (i.e. tells us something about God's character, so that we love God more, or are drawn closer to Him, or admire Him more, something along these lines, so that we are brought closer to Him), then I see great value in such a fact, but divorced from these considerations, what is the value in knowing a fact?
