Can you imagine a town of about 70,000 being totally evacuated because of a fire.Hospital was evacuated a few hours ago, the reports on that is it is on fire now.

Early all the business around our Church were gone, but the Church was still standing. I rather doubt if it is now.

Hotels up to a few hundred kilometres are offering free accommodations.

Many have run out of fuel, (always keep at least 1/2 tank of gas)  Groups are getting together and sending Jerry Cans full of gas and diesel up, one group is sending 3,000 gallons.

At the worst of times, the best in people come out.

What a horrible situation! I pray that each and every person find safety and a place to sleep, eat, and regroup!

I was watching a news report last night. What an inferno! How frightening that must have been to try and drive out with it being so close.

Vladimir Puckov offers help to Canadian rescuers struggling with wildfiresrss

Russian Minister of Emergency Situations Vladimir Puchkov has offered assistance of Russian rescuers to fight growing wildfires in Alberta province (Canada).

In the governmental telegram sent to Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness of Canada Steven Blaney Mr. Puchkov expresses readiness to immediately send aircraft to fight fires in the affected area.

Air tankers are capable of dropping up to 42 tons of fire retardant into fire spots. For being able to do that, Ilyushin Il-76 planes are called tankers or water bombers.

Additionally, the Minister offered to send Russian rescuers and specialists with necessary equipment to fight fires in Canada and organize ground support for aircrafts.

About 1.6 thousand houses and other buildings were destroyed in the city of Fort McMurrey, Alberta in western Canada by wildfires that have been raging since Sunday. According to the regional fire service the area of the fire has now reached 10,000 hectares. Hot weather up to 32 degrees Celsius and strong wind are helping the fire to sweep. The entire population, 88,000 people, have been evacuated. The province has declared a state of emergency.

How would you decide what to take and what to leave in evactuation.  We will all have hard decisions like this in the future.

How much you try to escape with depends upon the amount of time you have to load up. The size and speed of that fire is almost unbelievable.

We had to evacuate a fire in '92. We saw a column of smoke in the distance, and realizing that the fire was allowed to spread, we began preparing for evacuation just in case. Fortunately we had a pickup truck to load up the essentials, plus 4 kids. Although our house was not burned down, we never did return, choosing instead to live in a small town where the kids could attend an SDA school and church.

We did have church friends who lost everything.

Me and my church friends experienced one of the awful last summer major fires in CA.

Our area was threatened..our home didn't have to evacuate but across the major road a quarter mile away from us did ..and the entire half of town of ________ 3 miles away were also evacuated and we opened our home to a church couple we adore when they were displaced. And a few gentle friends had their homes burned to the ground.

:(

The fire got too close to us.

Smoke ..ashes in the air..i heard yelling and sirens and police everywhere

i cannot share more..its still much to think about

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.

there's a lot of coverage on the news here — perhaps because the Pacific Northwest and California can empathize with the devastation of wildfires...

What happens in a case like this for the families who have lost all? Does insurance cover it? How do they start over?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Many insurances would cover...

As A child, we lost our house to fire when i was 4. I remember that so well to this day. The community rallied together, I received a bunch of broken toys etc, I threw them away. It was just an excuse to clear out there junk.

I do not give junk to people in need.

Thanks for saying that! I have always had a pet peeve about donations of that type. Seems to me to be an insult.

Insurance will definitely help out quite a few people. Depends of course what type of policies they have.

Many or most policies have a caveat commonly identified as an "act of God". It's no wonder God has such a bad reputation among those who don't know Him.

Well, the idea that God will punish is well known from Scriptures.  Consider the Flood, Sodom & Gomorrah, the promise to destroy Nineveh if it didn't repent, etc.  Further, Mrs. White informs us regarding our modern "natural" disasters.

Quote

     The time is near when the large cities will be visited by the judgments of God. In a little while, these cities will be terribly shaken. No matter how large or how strong their buildings, no matter how many safeguards against fire may have been provided, let God touch these buildings, and in a few minutes or a few hours they are in ruins.  {CL 7.2}
     The ungodly cities of our world are to be swept away by the besom of destruction. In the calamities that are now befalling immense buildings and large portions of cities, God is showing us what will come upon the whole earth.--Testimonies, vol. 7, pp. 82, 83. (1902)  {CL 7.3}

                        Results of Unheeded Warnings

     I am bidden to declare the message that cities full of transgression, and sinful in the extreme, will be destroyed by earthquakes, by fire, by flood. All the world will be warned that there is a God who will display His authority as God. His unseen agencies will cause destruction, devastation, and death. All the accumulated riches will be as nothingness. . . .  {CL 7.4}
     Calamities will come--calamities most awful, most unexpected; and these destructions will follow one after another. If there will be a heeding of the warnings that God has given, and if churches will repent, returning to their allegiance, then other cities may be spared for a time. But if men who have been deceived continue in the same way in which they have been walking, disregarding the law of God, and presenting falsehoods before the people, God allows them to suffer calamity, that their senses may be awakened.  {CL 7.5}
     The Lord will not suddenly cast off all transgressors, or destroy entire nations; but He will punish cities and places where men have given themselves up to the possession of Satanic agencies. Strictly will the cities of the nations be dealt with, and yet they will not be visited in the extreme of God's indignation, because some souls will yet break away from the delusions of the enemy, and will repent and be converted, while the mass will be treasuring up wrath against the day of wrath.--Evangelism, p. 27. (1906)  {CL 8.1}

We have a message to the world.  Events like this remind us of it.  Are we proclaiming the message as we should?
