Who shot and mortally wounded President William B. McKinley on this day in 1901?

25 minutes ago, Aubrey said:

Guiteau or Czolgosz. Not the other guys.

I guess Czologosz!

Answer: On Sept. 6, 1901, President William B. McKinley was shot and mortally wounded by anarchist Leon Czolgosz at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. Czolgosz approached McKinley, who had been standing in a receiving line inside the Temple of Music, greeting the public for ten minutes. At 4:07 P.M., Czolgosz reached the front of the line. McKinley extended his hand. Czolgosz slapped it aside and shot the President in the abdomen twice, at point-blank range: the first bullet ricocheted and lodged in McKinley's jacket; the other seriously wounded him. McKinley died eight days later of an infection which had spread from that wound.

Ever heard of "The Ballad of the Green Berets"? Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler penned the song while recovering from a leg wound sustained in Vietnam.

What was the first feature-length motion picture with spoken dialogue and sound?

Answer: The Jazz Singer was released on October 6, 1927 and became the first feature-length film to include dialogue on the filmstrip itself. The Jazz Singer made way for the future of "talkies," which is what movies with audio soundtracks were called. A major hit, it was made with Vitaphone, which was at the time the leading brand of sound-on-disc technology. Sound-on-film would soon become the standard for talking pictures, triggering the talking-picture revolution. A year after its release, Hollywood recognized the importance of "The Jazz Singer" with regard to motion picture history by honoring the film with a special Academy Award.

Which city was home to "The Oprah Winfrey Show" for 25 years?

Chicago

Answer: The Oprah Winfrey Show aired for 25 seasons and was filmed at Harpo Studios in Chicago. Produced and hosted by Oprah Winfrey, it remains the highest-rated talk show in American television history. The show has its roots in A.M. Chicago, a half-hour morning talk show airing on WLS-TV, an ABC owned-and-operated station in Chicago. Winfrey took over as host on January 2, 1984 and, within a month, took it from last place to first place in local Chicago ratings. On September 8, 1986 the talk show was relaunched under its current title and picked up nationally.

Have been there, but not inside the studio, just in passing by! Have also been passed the building that she lived in. Not sure if she still lives there?

Guiteau killed another president, shot him in the back. I just have to wrack my brain to remember which one. It was the president that had serious malpractice worked upon him

Eric Clapton was seriously in love with Patti Boyd, who was George Harrison's wife. I heard long ago that he won her over through a guitar duel with Harrison but don't know if that is true.

I have often wonder what magical or mysterious quality Boyd had to have such attraction over these two...

I looked up Charles Guiteau. He killed James Garfield. Or, I perhaps should say that he SHOT James Garfield. The doctor in charge of his care probably killed him through massively infecting him by handling his wound with unwashed hands while trying to locate the bullet. It's quite a story!

Don't give the answer away - it's the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Flea and Kiedis still are members, while Navarro moved on to Jane's Addiction and John Frusciante has been associated with several acts and pursued a solo career.

My chose also. I do remember reading about this many years ago, but can't really recall what, why and etc.! :)

Answer: "Layla" is a song written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon. The song was inspired by Clapton's then unrequited love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and fellow musician George Harrison of The Beatles. In 1966 George Harrison married Pattie Boyd, a model he met during the filming of A Hard Day's Night. During the late 1960s, Clapton and Harrison became close friends. Clapton fell in love with Pattie and wrote the song "Layla," pouring out his feelings for his unrequited love. Boyd divorced Harrison in 1977 and married Clapton in 1979. During their relationship, Clapton wrote another love ballad for Pattie called "Wonderful Tonight." Clapton and Boyd eventually divorced in 1988 after several years of separation.

Abe??

Answer: Ronald Reagan was born in an apartment on the second floor of a building in Tampico, Illinois on February 6, 1911. Reagan's family briefly lived in several towns and cities in Illinois, including Monmouth, Galesburg, and Chicago. In 1919, they returned to Tampico and lived above the H. C. Pitney Variety Store until finally settling in Dixon. After his election as president, residing in the upstairs White House private quarters, Reagan would quip that he was "living above the store again".

It can't be the Unabomber; or Babe Ruth; and I don't think its Blackbeard; Its gotta be The Red Baron. He's the only one that was a German??

Answer: Manfred von Richthofen, also widely known as the Red Baron, was a German fighter pilot with the Imperial German Army Air Service during the First World War. He is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories. By 1918, he was regarded as a national hero in Germany, and respected and admired even by his enemies. Richthofen was shot down and killed on April 21, 1918. He remains perhaps the most widely known fighter pilot of all time, and has been the subject of many books, films and other media.
