Yes to the following, but when we study a religion we should go to a book that is accepted by that religion.  In the case of the Bible, I could cite a number of so-called translations that would not be accepted by the majority of Christians.  So, also, when it comes to the Quran, we should be aware of which translations have been accepted and by whom. A translation that is accepted only by a radical element and not the main-line Islams should not be thought authorized or authorative by us.

 

 

That "authorization" is no more divinely inspired than our own "authorized" versions of the Bible.

I spent years growing up in Indonesia.. And I found something very common amongst Indo Muslims.. They have this very very traditional response to any religion outside Islam.. Among others they would say "your religion (is your religion), my religion (is my religion)" or "(the greatest importance) is that one has a religion (as opposed to having none or as atheists)".. This clearly conveys the unspoken or in-between-the-line message of that actually they're not seriously seeking eternal life or truth but just to pass the life here on earth as comfortably and far from hassles and troubles as much as possible.. In other words the DO know what's true or good (that Christianity is the truth, so easily evident from its fruits in the world).. But have the "amazing capacity" to intentionally avoid that reality and live in that expection of "just-to-live-like vegetables.."

It's hard for even me as well to comprehend how greatly dominating the numbers are  of those who don't feel the serious and grave need to at least satisfy finding out about things relating to the afterworld. Maybe that goes back to values one has been brought up with.

But it's helpful to realize that many are deliberate in their course of highlighting or prioritizing the world against idealisms.. Else you will experience pain and disappointments due to misled assumptions that people care about idealisms..
