Stan Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 We all have them... some of us have many.... some (ahem) way too many (yeah I need to work on that <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> ) Calling someone a hyphenated person, like hyphenated-American, they are not a REAL American they are a kinda-American not like the REAL-Americans (meaning white) Living in Los Angeles, I am considered an American ( I am not), my 'brown' friend's family has lived in the USA for generations were hispanic-americans, kinda semi-Americans. Just one of my pet peeves.... add your own... Where did the word "peeves" come from??? But right now my major pet peeve is the person who has the parking spot right next to mine at the apt complex. She ALWAYS parks over into my spot and more than once I had to craw over the consol to get out the passenger side. I cant park over any farther as my spot is the last one and there is a tree on the other side. She also doesnt care about her car (leaves it unlocked and windows open. Its all dented etc) so she doesnt have a care about those around her. She is also scary so I havent spoken to her. I just tend to notice when people say "simyoolar" for similar, and "momento" for memento. And I've gotten past all the extra Rs that show up in sentences such as, "Let's do the warsh." And "the lawr of God is immutable." I won't go much into the I/me and the good/well problems. In general, the majority of American English-speakers don't have a clue as to how to use those correctly. It's when someone should know better that I get peeved. For instance, I once overheard a friend who has a Masters degree, and who teaches English at the local university on a part-time basis, correct her daughter who had just said, "Please get burritos for Tom and me." "Tom and I," said the MA mom. I almost bit my tongue in half. I knows I ain't perfict (am constantly confused on whether to use a comma or not), but it's (note correct apostrophe) kinda fun to be righter than sum other peoples sum of the thyme. I'm driving on the hwy at 55 and someone in their driveway sees me, then they come out of their driveway anyway, doing 30 and they don't speed up. After about 1 minute of driving 30, they speed up. Then there are the ones who do this then turn off the road 1000 feet later. I'm thinking why didn't you just go after I went instead of making hit the breaks to avoid hitting you. This is done by old and young, black and white, it's just a weird southern thang I guess. It happens so often here that it no longer bothers me. Why loose my joy over that anyway? When Danny married a woman younger than his own daughter I was very upset and it showed in my posts. my respect for him went out the window. It all has to do with me and not him a stranger in the crowd that I have seen on TV occasionally. Danny pushed a tender button. I get very upset when I hear of very older men marring very younger woman. Michael creepy Douglas marring Cathrine Zena Jones and so on. Imagine my horrors when i found out Frank dirtnap Sinatra married Mia angel Farrow. She was uhh..21 and He was 80! Or something like that. 1. Old lonely men looking for someone to keep them young. YAWN! 2.Old dirty men focusing on young woman so they could acheive excitement.SHOCK! 3.Old foolish men thinking they could atone for their mistakes they make with their first or third wives children by marring a fresh womb and make more lives to wreck.DELUSIONAL! 4.Old ignorant men exclude the many single attractive intelligent vibrant wise woman their own age and going for insipid,fresh,naive girls.SAD! Well.... I got that out of my system. BTW I am not saying Danny is dirty nor am I saying Mia is insipid. Its my pet peeve. but what do I know! In my former life(before Christ) my boyfriend was a married straight man who was a year older than my own dad. I was the Cathrine Zeta Jones in that relationship. I was 24 he was 47. you asked!!!!!!!!
