America's laws should not send a message that the victims of sexual assaults have been harmed irrevocably, as murder victims are. No victim survives murder. Rape presents horrific trauma, however, over time, most victims -- even child victims -- can overcome the pain and sense of violation. I don't want laws that tell child victims they have experienced something as damaging as murder. They've been hurt enough.

If we kill the rapists then let's kill the adulterer - I mean how far should we go as a nation? Pretty soon we're going to look like Iran's system of justice. Yes, lock these guys up...get them help...give them Jesus, but the death penalty?

The one common thread I am hearing with all this junk is Internet porn. Can’t something be done about making that stuff illegal?

Hmmm.

I know of at least 4 women that were molested as children. Because the first one didn't tell, the victims continued to mount.

Because no one 'knew' what had happened, all four of those women are finding their lives threatened. The oldest one is suffering from lung cancer. Her daughter as well is suffering from life threatening illness and she has a 6 year old daughter that will have neither grandma nor mom to tend to her as she becomes a teenager.

Then there is two other victims. One never married, the other has an eleven year old son.

Being sexually assaulted does not affect only the victim. It affects their entire life and everyone else in it unless some action is taken.

The above victims came before there was the Internet porn accessed within the home behind closed doors.

Sad to say that this kind of porn is becoming more and more common among 'upstanding' church members of all faiths. They think that no one knows, but themselves. And just not church members but pillars of society, such as educators and law enforcers.

But if you attempt to take it off the net, then people will cry "Foul". It is taking away from their rights! <img src="/adventist/images/graemlins/oops.gif" alt="" />

You know...God feels bad for those molested and those who are being controlled by their nature. I'm sure He doesn't have any sympathy for those who have knowingly given themselves over to their natures to do as they see fit.

For those who admit they need help then I would think that it would be in societies best interest to do so. For those who are reckless and indifferent they should remain incarcerated. We must punish their flesh/natures.

The problem is that our legal system doesn't differentiate between the two, which in reality compounds the problem. When they come down too hard on these individuals they actually perpetuate sin. Perhaps that's why Paul states the following:

"Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently."

It seems our system is run mainly by the self-righteous, power hungry type. A self-righteous attitude makes sinners, criminals.

Well, I was sexually molested when I was 10 years old. The person that molested me went to prison and did their time. I went to Christian counseling and got help to recover and heal. Growing up in such a dysfunctional family, the episode was proabally more of a blessing than a curse. Because of what happened, I got counseling that helped steer me in the right direction in life - which my parents were not doing.

I think there is a big difference between rape and murder. I am very happy that the person that molested me did not murder me too. Those that get raped and do not get help are obviously going to suffer negetive consequences throughout their lives. That is a reason we need to raise awareness and support rape crisis centers.

I believe the death penalty was once given for stealing another man's horse. I don't think I would have agreed with such a law. I believe the death penalty should only be used in murder convinctions where there is DNA evidence linking the defendant to the crime OR two eye witnesses.

Death penalty? why not the logical and sensible thing? A whipping and castration would probably solve the problem.

And what of women who get abortions as birth control?

While this pedophile thing is getting out of hand, mainstream media talks little of the cause? We have women murdering the life within them because it's in their way. Are these women going to jail?

We have a world literally dying from AIDS. Why? Sexual perversions such as homosexuality and adultery. So it seems America is taking it out on the guys who have indulged in pornography instead of searching for the root causes.

Pornography entices sexual perversion. It destroys marriages....It addicts men and women (mostly men), yet it is perfectly legal.

Children are apparently easily manipulated. So these guys go where sex is easy. I know, it's sick, but you have the same thing going on in ever bar and sleaze joint across America. But that takes work to get a woman in bed, so these guys are preying on the children because they are easy. No nice dinners - no take them to a movie, etc, etc...give'm a piece of candy.

This problem isn't going away! So if we are going to start killing (and I say this sarcastically) let's start killing the porn stars; the prostitutes; the homosexuals and the adulterers also....

I just found this poll on porn:

How often do you visit porn sites?

Almost everyday (45%)

Sometimes (23%)

Ocasionally (14%)

Almost never (13%)

Never! (5%)

Abortion as birth control!

Murder is sin; manipulation/rape is sin.

Our Government is practicing discrimination when they jail men for their sins, but allow women off the hook when it comes to their sins. They can't play favorites. If the law is going to be applied do it justly!

In a civil sense, I gather in the US - as in Australia - abortion is not illegal. Hence to suggest women who abort their pregnancies should be treated as lawbreakers makes no sense.

Disclaimer - I do not approve of abortion as birth control.

Why do you persist in comparing sins or crimes?

1.And what of women who get abortions as birth control?

This has what to do with rape of a child or woman? Abortion is a seperate issue altogether. Unfortunetaly it is legal so it is quite foolish to compare something that has been made legal thru the courts with rape of a child

2. While this pedophile thing is getting out of hand, mainstream media talks little of the cause? We have women murdering the life within them because it's in their way. Are these women going to jail?

Until and if it is made illegal why should they go to jail? As wrong as I believe it is this has nothing to do with the death penalty for sex offenses. Punishment for sex offenses or punsihment for any offense needs to stand by itself. Without comparing it to the seperate wrong act of another type

3. We have a world literally dying from AIDS. Why? Sexual perversions such as homosexuality and adultery. So it seems America is taking it out on the guys who have indulged in pornography instead of searching for the root causes.

Pornography is not the single cause of pedophile. It has been with us for thousands of years, long before porn on the internet was available.

4.Pornography entices sexual perversion. It destroys marriages....It addicts men and women (mostly men), yet it is perfectly legal.

True so far as it goes. Many times the sexual perversion already present entices pornography

5.Children are apparently easily manipulated.

Sex is easy no matter what area you are in. Pedophiles are a whole seperate issue from the need or desire for sex. Men do not rape and many times murder a child because of a wish for sex. Sexual attraction is not part of this whatsoever.

It has to do with power, control, and at times the abuse heaped on the abuser as a child himself.

6.This problem isn't going away! So if we are going to start killing (and I say this sarcastically) let's start killing the porn stars; the prostitutes; the homosexuals and the adulterers also....

Being a porn star is legal, prostitutes have nothing to do with a pedophile raping a child. Being a homosexual is not illegal, neither is the practice of homosexuality, the same goes for adultry. Why kill them(sarcastically) or otherwise.

Abortion debates and desire to see it stopped is not related to the rape of a child.

Most homosexuals do not rape children, they are not sexually attracted to them.

The same for prostitutes. Seperate sin

Adultry, seperate sin.

When each stands before God, What are you going to say......

God, I know I did.......etc, but what about the woman that had an abortion. Let's talk about her before my fate is decided.

I think each of us will have to give an accounting of our own sins only, without the benefit of someone else's having any kind of impact on our "reward"

Pedophiles are known and acknowledged to have a very low cure rate. The few honest ones will say, "Don't trust us around a child EVER

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

Allowing women to have abortions because it's too inconvenient for them to give birth is a grievous sin and much worse than the rape of child. The womb should be a haven of protection for the child. Abortion is disgusting!

If I were for the death penalty I would rather apply it to those who have abortions than the pedophile rapist (as bad as that is).

Your comparing apples and oranges.

I am adamently oppossed to drinking and those that sell alcohol. Since 1948 our immediate and extended family has buried 22 mostly young people as a result. Including my two sisters.. IMO, I would like to see those that so callously take the lives of others in such an irresponsible fashion in prison for life. So What?? What has that to do with my determination/wish for a punishment for the pedophile. And to keep them away from children at all costs.

Two seperate issues entirely. According to your reasoning I would first have to solve the drinking problem in this country before it would be fair to punsih the pedophile.

Maybe an opportunity to speak with a child that has been repeatedly raped by fathr or mothers live in boyfriend would give you at least a inkling of what they go thru. While it is true the womb should be a haven for the unborn, how much more of a haven should the home be for the child here? Most of this garbage is done by family or those known to the child.

At least the aborted unborn do not have to go thru life with this pain, fear, betrayal, and extreme shame.

If it were possible a conversation with the little girl buried alive with her stuffed dolphin as she was struggling to breath might shed some light for those that think pedophiles can't be dealt with until the abortion issue is solved. Might give those that release these animals some sleepless nights.

Sounds like my sons when they were younger and in trouble or when the conversation was not to their liking. Always wanted to point a finger at their siblings to talk of their sins first. Or to make their point, "WELL, HOW ABOUT .......ISN"T THAT JUST AS BAD?? Didn't have a thing to do with the topic at hand.

. It is entirely possible to be oppossed to abortion and express, work towards containing pedophiles, whatever it takes.

KEEP THEM AWAY FROM CHILDREN FOREVER.

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. I would like to see ALL sex offenders neutered, and monitored afterward that they not take sex hormones. No man will ever be able to use his weapon ever again after this procedure.

Unfortunately these type of men do not need their sex organs to abuse. They have been known to use broom handles as well.`Simply nuetering these men does not stop the the desire to hurt women. Many of these type of men were abusd by women in their past either physically or mentally and they want to hurt women back. It is a vicious cycle. I am not talking about child abusers but men who like to hurt women by rape or abuse.

Most Child abusers were themselves abused as children. This does not excuse the act but as the cammandment says. The sins of the father goes to the third and fourth generation.

I have my doubts about the theory that rape/sexual abuse is NOT about sex. Take testosterone away and not only does the ability to have sex taken away but aggression also goes down.

Testosterone is a neccessary chemical the male body needs. Take that away and osteoporosis sets in. My grandfather had the prostate removed due to cancer and he got osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a bone degenerative disease. Bone becomes so brittle that it breaks at the slightest pressure. He was bent over from pain the last 10 years of his life. My other grandfather also got prostate cancer but he refused to let them take the prostate due to what it did to my other grandfather. He said he would rather die than live like that. He died of old age before the cancer got him.

No you create other medical problems by doing that.

Prostate cancer

Hormone therapy increases risk of bone fracture

By Helen Fields

2/18/05

U.S.News & World Report

One way to treat prostate cancer is to cut back on the amount of testosterone and related hormones circulating in the body, which can shrink a prostate tumor or slow its growth. But, as with most medical treatments, there are drawbacks to hormone therapy, including a possible risk of bone fractures.

What the researchers wanted to know: Does hormone therapy for prostate cancer increase the risk of bone fractures?

What they did: The researchers used data from the National Cancer Institute and Medicare to look at 50,613 men ages 66 and older who were diagnosed with prostate cancer. They compared men who didn't have any hormone therapy—also known as androgen deprivation therapy—with those who either took drugs to block testosterone production or had testes removed. The researchers were looking for fractures that happened more than 12 months after the cancer was diagnosed (they figured that earlier fractures couldn't necessarily be attributed to the therapy).

What they found: Men who had hormone therapy were more likely to break a bone later; 19.4 percent of the men who had hormone therapy had a fracture, compared with only 12.6 of those who did not have the therapy. The researchers calculated how much this kind of therapy increases the risk of fracture; for example, men taking nine or more doses of the drug (gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist) in the year after diagnosis had a 45 percent higher risk of breaking any bone and a 62 percent higher risk of breaking a bone usually associated with osteoporosis, such as the hip, spine, or forearm. The risks are similar with orchiectomy.

What the study means to you: Obviously, doctors shouldn't stop recommending hormone therapy just because it causes fractures. But the researchers write that the therapy is usually prescribed to men for whom there is no proven benefit. In those cases, they say, the risk of fracture should be weighed against the lack of evidence for a benefit.

Caveats: The researchers looked only at doses of the drug in the first year; taking it longer could increase the risk.

Find out more: Women aren't the only ones who get osteoporosis, according to an article from the American Academy of Family Physicians. web page

Nether the less this is what happened. It may be that this comes on at a later age. My grandfather was in his 80's when he had the prostate removed 15 years ago. Doctors say this is what was the cause of the osterperosis. By the time he died his rib cage was so brittle we could not have restarted his heart without killing him. As it was he was 93 when he died but he was in so much pain from the osterperosis that it was a blessing to him.

If you mean you had your prostate removed then I pity you if you live to be in your 80's or 90's then you are in for a life of extreme pain and discomfort. Death would be preferable to you than to go though what my grandfather went through the last 10 years of his life.
