Pockey Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 I should've paid attention in traffic school, but I believe if you enter the intersection when it is yellow, you won't get a citation, even if it turns red after you enter the intersection. Quote
Dr. Shane Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 That is not the law in Texas. In defensive driving school they told us the law here is if the light turns red before you leave the intersection you can be cited. Yellow means prepare to stop not give it more gas. Halfstep Denise Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 If I remember correctly, Shane, that is what I was taught when I learned to drive here in California. Obviously, it's not a video, but if he stopped there, he'd better back up, if possible, or his front end may be rearranged! cricket Posted October 25, 2006 Posted October 25, 2006 How can anyone presume to know if he's breaking the law or not? Perhaps he's stalled. Perhaps "he's" a she. There is not enough information given for any man to make a judgment. Quote

Amelia Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Here in Oregon you are breaking the law if you cannot make a turn and get your car completely through the intersection before the light turns red and staying within the speed limit. LOL I just took a defensive driving class for work. Amelia Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 P.S. Just from looking at the photo and NOT knowing the circumstances ie man, woman, stalled, out of gas etc. I would say that the driver is making the turn against the law. Norman Byers, N.D. Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 Here are more facts, I don't know the gender I do know the person was going into the intersection when it was yellow (I took the picture) The car was not stalled. This pic was taken in the city of Locust Grove GA I was caught in the same situation at the same intersection only at night on Aug 22nd 06. I went to court 2 weeks ago and pled not guilty. I went back today to prove my innocence. Guess what happened to me Quote The unconditional pardon of sin never has been, and never will be. PP 522
Dr. Shane Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 That would depend on the judge. The only good defense I know of is if one times how long the light is yellow and can show that other yellow lights in the same city are yellow longer than that one is. That has been a winning defense that I know has been used. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Norman Byers, N.D. Posted October 26, 2006 Author Posted October 26, 2006 HI Shane, look again closely We (the Lord and I) got the ticket dismissed and I agreed to pay a $75.00 court cost. It would have been way more than that if found guilty. The charges of failing to stop at a red light were dismissed. There are clues in this pic. I used this very one in court today. Halfstep Denise Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Norm - Is the clue that the traffic lights weren't working properly? I've been to intersections where the lights weren't changing and and after a long wait,I ended up making turns with the wrong color light showing! cricket Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Looks like this driver is making a left turn from a left turn only lane. I can't tell what the signs in the background say. The photo (at least on my laptop screen) is too blurry. Also, it looks as if the car is turning onto a one-way street. Without better focus though...I just don't think I could say anything more in regards to the innocence or guilt of this driver. Too bad you had to pay the $75 court costs. Quote

Norman Byers, N.D. Posted October 27, 2006 Author Posted October 27, 2006 HI Sid, You got it That was my case in court. GA law states that when coming to a stop sign or traffic light vehicles must stop exactly at the white line. I said to the judge that there was no point of reference for me to know where to stop and neither did the officer have a reference point to know when I was in the intersection. I showed him several pics of that intersection and that one was the only one that didn't have white lines to indicate where to stop. He dismissed the ticket with me paying only the court cost, the officer's agreed. This intersection has earned the city many dollars as many many people have gotten tickets there. I am thankful that I went back and looked at the intersection. I knew something was not right, even when I got the ticket and told the officer I'd be fighting it. After my case was dismissed someone else who got a ticket for the same intersection came up to me and told me he heard what I said and was going to try and beat it, only he was going to say the timing of the lights were not the same. I told him to use what I did. Don't know what happened I had to go. I think that soon that intersection will have painted lines Praise the Lord for laws. Dr. Shane Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I tried to beat a speeding ticket once because the street I was driving on had no posted speed limit. The judge allowed me to be on probation for six months and at the end of that time dropped the ticket. So it never went on my record. However I have since noticed they have posted the speed limit on the street. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Administrators Naomi Posted October 27, 2006 Administrators Posted October 27, 2006 Congrats Norman ... good thinking. Along these lines, I live about 35 miles from the church and most of the drive is on winding rural roads with a couple of towns which have rapaidly decresing speed limits ... down to 20 mph for a couple of blocks. Traffic tickets are a major source of revenue for the area. Our pastor preaches in another church; he has worship early and then travels to Summit for the 11 am hour. He also drives through this area. One Sabbath I was pulled over for driving 36 mph ... 11 mph over the posted speed limit. The local policeman say hello and asked what the rush was ... told him going to church and to see mother. He stood there for a while and said, "Oh, I know your preacher. He contributes to our city budget." Small town, small world ... great memory. :) Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
