Administrators Gail Posted March 5, 2007 Administrators Posted March 5, 2007 Good to see so many right-brained thinkers, even if by being righthanded they have to work at it! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Moderators Nan Posted March 5, 2007 Moderators Posted March 5, 2007 Well in a family I used to know well, 5 of the 12 children were/are natural left handers......I will not make any comments on the handedness of their cerebral status. Quote
Woody Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'm a righthanded leftist, does that count? It counts 50% Bravus. But in politics as with Religion ... I am told that you need to be 100% Right. Taylor Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 hahaaha you all! What about someone who is truely ambidextrous? (how is that spelled?) My grandfather, a surgeon could suture with his right hand and when it was no longer convenient for that hand to suture he would take over with his left hand. I could build and drive in a nail in the same way. Does this mean he was exceptionally adjusted or seriously messed up? lol Quote

Administrators Gail Posted March 5, 2007 Administrators Posted March 5, 2007 Which reminds me that in times long ago people didn't accept left-handedness as readily as they do today. Maybe there are some here who remember being forced to learn to write with their right hand in school? The french word for left- gauche- hints at something bad Who sticks up for THIS minority? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
puddles Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I was born a natural lefty but my parents kept making me use my right hand. Today, I write with my right hand but when I write on a board (chalk or white) I use my left hand (I write downhill with my right and straight as a ruler with my left...lol) Over the years my family has teased me over how I do things. When I paint, I paint the right side of whatever I'm painting with my right hand and the left side with my left hand and I stay in the middle. I even put on makeup the same way. There are somethings I am 100% a lefty and somethings I am 100% a righty. I'm just weird...lol My great aunt was a lefty and lived 99 years a lefty. She was awesome! Quote
Woody Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Thanks puddles for sharing with us. I am curious ... when you step in a puddle which foot is it? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
David Koot Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I'm a righthanded leftist, does that count? Back where I used to live, we would call you a "hard shell" lefty, Bravus. Definitely in the forehead, not just in the hand. :SO Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted March 5, 2007 Moderators Posted March 5, 2007 The Latin word for left, 'sinistere' is not much better. Quote Truth is important
Amelia Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Gail, what about the latin "Sinister" meaning to the left or evil? Sinister is also used in Heraldry to mean illegitimacy. That is just as bad for the lefties. Oh you poor gauche illegitimate evil people. I think they need a telethon! Where is Jerry Lewis when you need him? Woody Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 After hearing the blight of Lefties and Leftists .... I think they deserve to be added to my list of minorities that are discriminated against. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 6, 2007 Author Administrators Posted March 6, 2007 .... I think they deserve to be added to my list of minorities that are discriminated against. And a terribly misunderstood and misrepresented bunch too. For me it started very early on. When I was just a little squirt I would follow my Dad around the farm "helping" him. His encouraging praise for me just plain missed the mark in my little kid opinion. He would refer to me as his right hand man. My Dad thought it greatly amusing that my altogether serious little boy response was "No I'm not! I'm your left handed man. I also remember through most of grade school playing baseball with a borrowed or hand-me-down right-handers glove, but getting quite adept at quickly ditching the glove to throw the ball in from the outfield. But on the bright side, I could switch hit and as a lefty could easily hit the ball into left field much to the chagrin of the fielders that had automatically shifted to the right on seeing a lefty step up to the plate. Yeehaw! What fun! Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." there buster Posted March 6, 2007 Posted March 6, 2007 Has anyone else noticed that although the name 'Benjamin' means 'son of the right hand,' nearly all the Benjamites we know about were left-handed? This occurs to me since my son Benjamin, 30yo last Sunday, is left-handed. Quote “the slovenliness of our language makes it easier to have foolish thoughts.” George Orwell
