Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted March 6, 2007 Author Administrators Posted March 6, 2007 100% of people are born right-handed, 13%, from what I understand, have had the courage and strength to overcome that... And don't forget that since the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, only we left-handers are in our right mind. :E Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." Moderators Nan Posted March 6, 2007 Moderators Posted March 6, 2007 I am going to try to tell a joke my mother told about a million years ago.... The scene is Germany in the early 1930's. Herr Hitler is becoming powerful and his antiSemitic tendencies are known, but not yet put into effect. An acquaintance, wanting to show him some of the good characteristics of the Jews, offers to take him shopping. They walk into a china shop owned by an obviously Teutonic individual and the friend asks for some left handed tea cups. The shop keeper looks puzzled, scratches his head and ultimately has to admit he does not have any left handed tea cups in stock. The next china shop is owned by a Jewish man and he is asked the same questions. After a brief thought and scuffling around, he brings out some left handed tea cups for approval. They make a purchase and leave the shop. Friend asks HH - "Now can't you see what good business people the Jews are?" HH: "What do you mean? He was just lucky he had had a delivery of left handed tea cups" !!!! (NB This is just a left handed joke, not antiSemitic, not antiGerman ) Quote
Dottie Posted March 10, 2007 Posted March 10, 2007 Well, I'm left-handed and still don't understand why people think that if they are left-handed they are "discriminated" against. I've never had any problem; nothing forces me to use my right hand--keyboards, telephone numbering, calculators, etc. Maybe because I didn't know it was supposed to be difficult for me. My husband is right-handed, and so is one of my sons (He's mine, not my hubby's.) My youngest, Benjamin, is right-handed, but I thought the current meaning is "favorite son." Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 23, 2007 Author Administrators Posted May 23, 2007 This explains a lot - From my lefty day calendar for today: Quote: "'The left stuff' is all of that out-of-the-box stuff. The trait grants those who possess it a tendency toward more flexible thinking, the psychological freedom to question orthodoxies, and the cognitive facility to update beliefs." - Melissa Roth, author of The Left Stuff: How the Left-handed Have Survived and Thrived in a Right-handed World Research has shown that lefties score higher on tests of divergent thinking, 1/3 higher on vocabulary tests, 2X better on problem solving tasks, have higher "fluid" intelligence and are more likely to be artistic/creative. And my favorite - research shows that lefties have larger "humor centers" in their brains! Tom Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." olger Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I presume that the researcher might be left-handed? Maybe he smokes left-handed cigarettes? Og Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Dottie Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Tom, I'm left-handed and proud of it. Wasn't there a contingent of soldiers in the Bible who were left-handed? If the left side of the brain makes the right side work, then it must be the left-handed people who are in their right minds. Quote
