Lost in the Service

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Johnny standing in the foyer of the church, looking at a large plaque that hung there. After the young man of seven had stood there for some time, the pastor walked up beside him and said quietly, "Good morning, son." "Good morning, Pastor," replied the youngster, not taking his eyes off the plaque. "Can I ask you, Sir, what is this for? Why are all these names listed on here?" "Well, son, these are all the people who have died in the service," replied the pastor. Soberly, they stood together, staring up at the large plaque. Little Johnny's voice barely broke the silence when he asked quietly, "Which one, Sir, the 8:30 or the 10:30?"1 point -

I don't think it likely that the wedding wine was "pure grape juice." "Everyone serves the good wine first, and then the inferior wine after the guests have become drunk. But you have kept the good wine until now" (John 2:10, NRSV) People don't become drunk on pure grape juice. It has a laxative effect. That would hardly be conducive to a fun time at a wedding.1 point -

I would mention that there were THREE "harvests" in Israelite culture. The Spring (Barley), the Summer at Pentecost (mainly wheat), and the early FALL (olives, fruits and nuts). The fall fruits were presented for Sakkot (Tabernacles). Christ is the "firstfruits" of the Spring (Barley) harvest. I believe the body of that harvest consisted of those who were resurrected by Christ, who were then taken with Him to the Father's House. These presently serve as the 24 elders. There are probably MORE than just 24 of them. King David divided the priesthood into 24 "courses" of elders (I Chron 24-25). They rotated the service of the Temple. Matthew 27:52-53, Isa. 26:19, Psa. 68:18, Eph 4:8, Rev. 4:4 & 5:8-10. The "summer" harvest has been in progress since Pentecost, and will culminate at the SC. The Fall harvest was presented at Sakkot (Tabernacles) - [which FOLLOWS Day of Atonement by the way]. It is most interesting that "everyone who is left of all the nations" are invited to come up to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles (Zech. 14:16). These will be present their "brethren" gathered out of the nations, to the LORD as an offering (Isa. 66:18-21). These "brethren" gathered out of all the nations, are the final FALL harvest. Jesus is the only way. However what does that mean? I believe that there are too many Christians who have ended up filtering that idea into the idea that Christianity is the only way and salvation is saying the magical words about Jesus. But Jesus is bigger than Christianity. The Trinity are the 3 manifestations of attributes of the one infinite God who is too big for us to comprehend. One reaching out to us to teach us the power and majesty of God. The other the love and friendship of God, and the third how God works with our subjective. If we have a friendship with God, we have accepted Jesus. Everyone in heaven will be there because of what Jesus did. The Holy Spirit points all to Jesus and we are either yielding to the Holy Spirit's prompting or rejecting it. We are constantly making choices either to think we are for ourselves by making less of the outside world (our sinful nature) or we are making choices to love the world as Jesus had loved it. In the end Judgment is not standing before the judgment seat of God with our knees knocking and finally either being told that we can go into heaven and we wipe the sweat from our brow, breath a sigh of relief and joyfully run into heaven before God changes his mind and calls us back. Or be told that we are going to hell and be pulled off kicking and screaming. Heaven and Hell is seeing God the Father and Jesus in full glory, in full beauty, in full majesty, full awesomeness. Those who have been Jesus' friend while having a dreadful moment as we are impacted with the awesomeness of seeing Jesus, when we hear the words "My Grace is Sufficient for you!" will have our hearts sing in joy as we realize that here is our best friend and it becomes heaven to be with him. Hell is the exact same experience except that the person has been rejecting the pleadings of the Holy Spirit and did not form a friendship with Jesus. The trend of their life was to yield to the sinful nature. They are attracted to Jesus and want to come. But they are afraid that God is going to get them for their sins. Despite the fact that Jesus said to them, yes to them "My grace is sufficient for you." they do not know Jesus and thus they do not trust in him. As they see their acts, not from the position of their excuses, but how God sees them, the are horrified of the person they became. They are overwhelmingly attracted to the beauty of Jesus, the desire of all nations, the desire of Ages, the one beloved by women, the one sweeter than honey and more desirable than gold, but they have destroyed their will power and are slaves to their feelings and they are afraid to come to the light for fear their deeds may be exposed. They feel that God is going to get them for their sins. They see loved ones with Jesus who they long to be with and throw their arms around, but they also see others who they have hurt or held a grudge towards and want to avoid, and even with their loved ones they see how they kept manipulating their loved ones to do what they wanted their loved ones to do. They are horrified at this and know that the one sitting on the throne knows the deepest and darkest corners of their lives and they fear to come to the light, they pull back. Yet Jesus is still all together beautiful and their deepest desire who they long to be with. They are finding that their life is so out of harmony with the purity of heaven that they find it torcher to be there and see the scene. They want to come and bow before Jesus, but they won't. The Holy Spirit does everything except force the will and the lost are overwhelmed at this pressure and the attractive beauty of Jesus. If only they would yield and come to Jesus they would find that his grace is sufficient for them and he could heal them. But they refuse to. They become prisoners of their own mind. Hell is locked from the inside. They form their own morbid heaven which they choose focusing on their excuses and criticisms of those allowed in and wallowing in their complaints, enjoying the joy that comes from excuses and blaming over the joys of heaven and fellowship with Jesus and our loved ones and respecting them on an honest basis. Both Benny Hinn and Joel Osteen are seeing important Biblical truth. Their false ideas about hell and thus not realizing how beautiful Jesus is, them both having a narrow Jesus limiting him to only the Church and Christianity causes them to not see how the truth fits together. And thus you have part of the truth fighting against another part of the truth.1 point -

The book of Revelation is a great example. I forget how many texts are cited from other Scripture but it is substantial. And John claims that it came from God through Jesus by His angel (Gabriel).1 point -

She had enough to write all those books......... I am a high school drop out. A couple years back I took a test to determine my education level in order to take a course at the local community college. I scored a 4th year university education level. I have that cause I read a lot. So its very likely that EGW did spend some time reading and may have just been a very bright person that made the most out of a little. (did I just defend EGW )1 point -

I've thought those same thoughts. They started out originally as, if that person goes to my church I'm not going there. So I stopped going to church. I knew there were other churches to go to in the area, but I liked that one. So eventually it came around to, well wait a minute, what if they actually will be in heaven and than the earth made new!!! Whoa, what than? I finally just prayer about it and I figured I could be on the other side of heaven, earth, etc., they were not gonna keep me from spending the rest of eternity with Jesus.1 point
