Solar Electric Power * We have solar poser with two batteries. * If fully charged, the batteries provide us with all electivity used during the night. * The electricity generated during the day is sued to power our home, charge the batteries, and the excess is sold to PGE for use by other customers. * PGE has direct co control over the charging of the batteries. Normally they can only be charged by sun power. * During a local storm, PGE may allow the batteries to be charged from the grid. Big Brother at work. Samsung Refrigerator * Recently we purchased a new Samsung refrigerator* It contains a “A "Smart Guard” Program that controls when the compressor is allowed to turn on. * When Smart Guard is turned off, the compressor runs whenever the temperature rinsed above the set level. * When Smart Guard is turned on, the compressor only runs if the time of the day is during the hours when PGE charges the lowest rates. IOW, the compressor does not run during the time when higher electric rates a sire charge d. *This is accomplished by PGE sending a signal to our refrigerator telling in not to turn on, or to that the compressor can now run. * During times of a local storm, PGE allows the compressor to turn on at any t time. * In short, PGE knows our local weather c conditions and has some control over the operation of our refrigerate. Princess Astrid of Norway died Friday at 94, just two days after attending the funeral of her younger brother, the late King Harald. “His Majesty the King has received with great sorrow the news that Princess Astrid has passed away,” the Norwegian Royal House said in a statement Friday afternoon.
