The Search for a Pastor During Bible Times
CoAspen and one other reacted to phkrause for a topic
Dear Member, We do not have a happy report, as we have not been able to find a suitable candidate for pastor of our church thus far. We do, however, have one promising prospect. The following is our confidential report on the candidates: Adam: Good man, but has problems with his wife. Noah: Former pastorate of 120 years with no converts. Prone to unrealistic building projects. Joseph: A big thinker, but a braggart. Interprets dreams. Has a prison record. Moses: Modest and meek, but poor communicator; even stutters at times. Sometimes blows his stack and acts rashly in business meetings. Deborah: One word—female. David: The most promising candidate of all, until we discovered the affair he had with a neighbor’s wife. Solomon: Great preacher, but serious woman problems. Elijah: Prone to depression; collapses under pressure. Jonah: Told us he was swallowed by a huge fish. He said the fish later spit him out on the shore near here. We hung up. Amos: Backward and unpolished. With some seminary training, he might have promise; but he has a problem with wealthy people. John: Says he’s a Baptist, but doesn’t dress like one. Sleeps in the outdoors, has a weird diet, and provokes denominational leaders. Paul: Powerful CEO type and fascinating preacher. But he’s short on tact, unforgiving with young ministers, harsh, and has been known to preach all night. Timothy: Too young. Judas: His references are solid. A steady plodder. Conservative. Good connections. Knows how to handle money. We’re inviting him to preach this Sunday with great hopes that he will accept our offer!2 points -

hugelkultur raised garden beds in a nutshell: grow a typical garden without irrigation or fertilization has been demonstrated to work in deserts as well as backyards use up rotting wood, twigs, branches and even whole trees that would otherwise go to the dump or be burned it is pretty much nothing more than buried wood can be flush with the ground, although raised garden beds are typically better can start small, and be added to later can always be small - although bigger is better You can save the world from global warming by doing carbon sequestration in your own back yard! perfect for places that have had trees blown over by storms can help end world hunger give a gift to your future self http://www.richsoil.com/hugelkultur/1 point -

The 28 Fundamental Beliefs Get an Update
Sojourner reacted to JoeMo for a topic
As I read through the revised list, I was pleased with the updated laguage. IMO, there was still a at least one inconsistency - the statement that the Bible was the final authority (not EGW); but later was still using 1844 as the time of entry of Christ into the Most Holy Place, which to me is clearly contradicted throughout the book of Hebrews. Just my opinion; no intention here of starting a theological debate on the subject in this thread. There are plenty of other threads that debate this issue - none of which have changed anybody's mind on either side of the fence.1 point -
Quitting Veganism
Gail reacted to Johann for a topic
I find this interesting because I have been a vegetarian for more than 81 years! Vegan just a few days in between. I have still sufficient B12. My exception is that I take cod liver oil daily for vitamin D and I suppose that Is why I have less arthrites than many people suffer from at my age.1 point -

White Nights
Stan reacted to phkrause for a topic
One night, 6 year old Rivkah walks up to her mother Leah, looks at her mother’s hair, and says, "Mommy, why is some of your hair white?" Leah replies, "Well darling, every time you do something wrong and it makes me unhappy, one of my hairs turns white." Rivkah thinks about this for a second, looks at a picture of her grandmother on the wall and then says, "Oh my goodness Mommy, you must have been a very naughty girl when you were a kid for Bubbie to look like that!”1 point -

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity... It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow." -–Melody Beattie1 point -
