phkrause and 2 others reacted to Sojourner for a topic
We sang this one yesterday in church, its about the Sanctuary which up until I joined the SDA is something I did not know a lot about. I think this may well prove to be popular in SDA churches if it is not already! - Its from the Parachute Band in New Zealand who are popular in Australia also.3 points -

How many
Tom Wetmore reacted to phkrause for a topic
Just the beginning??????? As soon as he took office, according to many he was changing the constitution. Luckily he only has two more years to do anymore damage!!!!! Sadly he did promise changes, and sadly as pretty much each new president finds out, "don't waste your time making promises" because if you can't get the rest of the sorry @#$ congress and house to do anything, nothing will get done, as we have seen in the past 6 years. Period!!!!! And now with the newbies it looks like less will be done than ever before.1 point -

Child Abuse in SDA institutions and churches.

The article is very informative. Any time you can bring to light this terrible sin, it is awesome. As you will see from the 2 links below, our church has already prepared as best as possible so far for this terrible plight many years ago. We need our magazines to expand more on this topic consistently so it will always be present in our minds. The poor children who suffer physically and mentally from this is a larger concern also. The Lord has helped many of them I am sure! Remember, the background checks done for volunteers, teachers, etc... will only bring to light someone who has been caught. There are 50x more pedophiles that pass the check and infiltrate our churches. Where sin did abound, GRACE did MUCH more abound. When we plead with Jesus for protection, He will lead us properly with wisdom and guidance according to His will. http://www.adventistrisk.org/prevention-resources/safety-topics/child-and-youth-activities/child-protection http://www.communityservices.org/article/135/resources/acs-ministries/www-adventistyes-org/yes-leadership-resources/forms-and-guidelines1 point -

It is not accurate to suggest that two men refused to accept the call of "God. It would be true to say that Hazen Foss refused to accept the call. William Foy is another situation. Foy accepted the call of God and began to proclaim the message that God had given him. Then, he became quite confused in regard to a message that God had given him that he did not understand. When understanding failed to come to him,, in prayer he asked God to relieve him of the call, which God did. Foy did not in rebellion refuse to give God's message. He proclaimed it as best he could as he understood it. God accepted him on his level and relieved him of the responsibility. But, it is not accurate to suggest that he refused to give it. The church has published a book in William Foy and how he responded to God. I suggest that you read it. The book is THE UNKNOWN PROPHET, 160 pages, and was published in 1987 The SDA Encyclopedia has a good article on Foy, page 474 - 475. It also has an article on Foss, page 173 and 174. For a good article on William Foy, see: http://spectrummagazine.org/blog/2011/03/03/unknown-prophet There is a lot of other stuff available about Foy, but the above shoudl give you the basics. As to the idea that Foy refused to give God's message, it should be noted the Ellen White, in writing about her life, tells how she attended a meeting in which Willaim Foy preached the message that God had given him, as he understood it. It is true the in the beginning, Foy did not proclaim the message as he believed that God had not directed him to do so. But, as time passed, Foy felt that God had called him to proclaim and at one time, he went on a three month preaching tour during which he held meetings and proclaimed the message. Then as he became confused, he asked for God to relieve him of that responsibility and God did. But, Foy did not rebell and refuse. The historical evidence is beyond doubt that he did proclaim the message for a period of time.1 point -

I think you have your claims messed up here. People have to come first, and then they change. They don't come because they have changed. And the change takes time, and for some will not happen... they may struggle with certain issues for the rest of their lives, while they'll have a clear change in other aspects of their life. I think you need to revisit your place in it all, and what exactly you "job" is. It's certainly not to stand on the corner, calling out people's sins and tell them their need of immediate repentance. Your job is to provide a safe environment in which they can come and have room for change, and do so with attitude of encouragement, and not that of accusation and condemnation. You seldom will see the change in people, who are constantly demoralized by the high-horse mentality that somehow manages to find specs in other people's life from behind the logs of their own. It really takes tremendous effort to do so... first to delusionally convince yourself that you are in a high-enough position to judge someone's situation... and judge it in such a manner that seems to eliminate any need for disclosure of of one's own pitfalls. You know, there was a guy who wrote a book about his sins. I'd take some criticism from someone like that... certainly not from a faceless blog making sweeping generalizations, and demoralizing condemnations.1 point -
