Yep, that absolutely connects and proves my statement that I pried out of my flouride debased brain. It has now been confirmed by none other that the merchant of $1000 water filtration systems and other similarly fantastically priced health and fitness products that we are all doomed by a vast and carefully orchestrated governmental conspiracy to turn us all into mindless zombies to serve the corrupt criminal enterprise otherwise known as the government.3 points -
Righteousness by Faith rather than Dogmatic Conservatism or Extreme Liberalism
Robert reacted to Lauralea for a topic
"Yes, the backlash of liberalism we see cropping up in various quarters of Adventism is, indeed, a problem. But here’s the crucial thing to grasp: the liberalism we are now facing, with its tendency to negate Bible doctrine, is largely a desperate and misguided reaction against the graceless conservatism that has characterized much of our history. We have sown legalism to the wind, and now we are reaping a whirlwind of liberalism. In other words, theological liberalism was born in Adventism as an overcorrection against rigid conservatism—and the battle lines are drawn in the sand to this day. As a result, we are a fractured and fighting people, often straining gnats and swallowing camels (Matthew 23:24). And the whole brawling mess is traceable back to the sharp right turn we took away from the gospel in 1888! " Ty Gibson http://www.lightbearers.org/the-old-covenant-brood/ Interesting article. I appreciated the Ellen White quotes about not being dictatorial and how people exposed to dictatorial church leaders would either break every fetter of restraint or regard God as a hard Master. She especially wrote about this in terms of the 1888 message- letting Jesus live in us and accede to His guidance in changing our lives, rather than sucking it up and trying to live better on our own or throwing standards out the window. Sometimes when we let God be in charge we realize He reasons with us, he is not so abrupt as we might imagine due to the actions or others who say they represent Him.1 point -

The Holy Spirit in the form of a dove

Matthew 3:16 -- The verse says the Holy Spirit descended on him as a dove. Perhaps it was just a light, or perhaps it did look like a bird, but you can certainly see how the idea of a dove got started.1 point -

maybe this is a dumb idea, but perhaps the dove that Noah sent out was the Holy Spirit incognito... kinda nice to imagine that they might actually have had one of the godhead onboard with them during the flood...1 point -
Are we using the right exegesis in the church for determining womens ordination?
Kevin H reacted to fccool for a topic
But, I have to agree with your take on this issue, if I interpreting it correctly. There's so much "theological editorializing" going on in Adventist church, that it seems to be centered around the idea of sitting around in a circle and discussing the "proper exegesis" and "proper systematic theology". That's always bothered me, from the day one that I've joined the church. It almost seems like God would care more about the issue of women's ordination, jewelry, sabbath and etc... than he would care about people in the church being in debt, struggling through divorce, living in broken communities, and in an environment where "edutainment cycle" throws their kids into a mindset of perpetual narcissism and shallow and reactionary mentality that's very easy to control. Where are the theological conferences on those issues with decisive plans of action? Thank you for letting me vent1 point -

Again, we run in with the same issue of "liberalism" to be a vague trash can label that means everything that's trash . I find it a bit vague and disingenuous. By which standards will we judge "liberalism", and how do we even begin to apply such definition to the Biblical narrative? Jesus was fairly "liberal" when we compare it to "conservative Jews" of his time. Luther was a "liberal". So was Adventism at its inception, when they broke away from other contemporary denominations. I think it's time to ditch the term, and exchange it to something more fitting and appropriate.1 point -

Are Biblical Prophecies About End-Times Restricted to Middle East?
Lauralea reacted to JoeMo for a topic
I just finished a word study on "God's wrath" and "wrath of God"; and many OT scriptures are clear that The end-time wrath of God affects (indeed virtually demolishes) the entire planet. I thank God that His people will be protected during this time.1 point -

Maybe you can understand it from the perspective of my SIL. She will not be paying 675.00? a month for coverage and then have to fork over the first 5,000.00 deductible. She will put off checkups and visits for what doesnt appear on the surface to require immediate attention. Now maybe you personally would not have to make those decisions but the countless thousands that are faced with new very high deductibles do1 point -
What does a Biblical funeral look like?
Naomi reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
Most anything can be done, if the proper civil paperwork is completed. Funerals are less for the departed than they are for the people left behind. In one sense they are to help them to deal with their sense of loss. Yes, generally, with the proper paperwork, people can be buried on personal property. However, be aware that if the proper paperwork is not completed major problems can arise. Be also aware that even with the proper work the burial of a human on personal property can complicate the later sale of the property. One who plans to do that should consider whether or not the owner of that property will live forever, never die, and never have either a desire or a need to sell the property. In most places the deceased can be buried without embalming and cremation can take place without such. Also, in most places there are organizations that will facilitate burial at very low costs and limited involvement of others in a manner that meets legal requirements. In short, you can make your plans, but to refrain from further complicating the lives of the people who remain behind your plans should be informed and carefully laid. NOTE: As one who has been involved in many funerals, and who was once a cemetery manager, I have personally witnessed the problems that occurred when people made irrational, uninformed decisions and did not understand the consequences of the decisions that they were making.1 point -

For those who might want to learn more about Jewish funeral practices, I suggest that they might click on the following: http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/Judaism/ancientburial.html http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/367834/jewish/The-Components-of-a-Jewish-Funeral.htm http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/367843/jewish/The-Taharah.htm http://www.jewfaq.org/death.htm http://jewish-funeral-home.com/Jewish-burial-customs.html Of course, one might say that none of the above are Biblical, or perhaps they might say that some of the above are Biblical. I leave that to each to decide.1 point -

Indeed, our religions of today do not rightly represent the Kingdom of YHVH as presented to humans in the days of Moses, the tabernacle, and the sacrificial service. This system was no Earthly contrivance, but rather, represented what actually occurs in the Kingdom of YHVH, wherever it is located in the cosmos. An act of worship at that time was to prostrate oneself before the LORD in a demonstration of subservience to Him, and this act will be repeated by his servants once again. Our "worship" services today bear no resemblance to the Kingdom of YHVH, and all these church service practices will be discarded when His Kingdom arrives.1 point -

A Seventh-day Adventist Church today is not in any sense a temple in the manner that such existed in the time of Israel. A SDA Church today does not have a Most Holy place which is entered by the pastor only once a year. The people in the time of Christ were only allowed to enter the courtyard outside of the temple. Only the priests entered the actual temple itself. We allow people to enter a SDA Church today and to not keep them out.1 point -
