Stained Glass Windows?
Sojourner and one other reacted to rudywoofs (Pam) for a topic
I can't think of any SDA church I've been in that doesn't have some stained glass feature worked into the design.. **** making stained glass windows is fun... you'd probably enjoy it a lot! (just be prepared to get cuts on your hands) here's one I made quite some time ago...this was taken at night, so color isn't bright as it is during the daytime...2 points -
Torture

The report regarding CIA activities to obtain information will be released tomorrow. Is torture EVER justified? If someone is caught who knows where a nuclear device is hidden that could wipe out NYC, or LA, is torture justified to make him tell where it is?.1 point -
Stained Glass Windows?
Gail reacted to Sojourner for a topic
Just wondering if there are SDA churches that have Stained Glass Windows or maybe they are known as Leadlight Windows overseas? I have never seen an SDA church that has them here in Australia, yet have only been in 4 different SDA buildings in that time. I know that they were rejected from the Lutheran church denomination because they opposed the idea. Yet what I do find is that in a number of Methodist, Anglican (Church of England/Episcopal, and Presbyterian churches here that they seem to have a number of very nice looking ones, often donated by founding members of those congregations 100+ years ago. I for one am somewhat of a fan of looking at christian art done on stained glass and made into windows. It is a skill that I would like to be able to do for myself one day!1 point -

From what has the believer been saved?

Yentyl: Thank you for your kind words. As to Moderation: We Moderators have the ability to moderate in just about any thread in Club Adventist. However, under our general operating rules, we only exercise that power in the threads to which we have been assigned. The majority of threads in CA have not been assigned. Those unassigned threads are moderated by the Administrators. So, when you see my comments in threads that I do not moderate, I am acting as I would act if I were not a Moderator. Over the years, my approach to moderation has changed in some ways. Some years ago I was a Moderator here. At that time I was more active in removing objectionable content. [NOTE: I always stated that I had done so.] Presently, I am much less willing to edit what others have written. Rather I am prone to respond directly to what has been written. Well, now you all know.1 point -

From what has the believer been saved?

Life, it is strange that you would like to know how someone else is going to fare when asked to accept the mark of the beast, as you put it. Why would you like to know? That is a puzzle to me. I cannot imagine why you would consider it to by your business to know. You like to cite Scripture. Well, you probably recall the time when Christ would asked about the future of a disciple and the response was to the effect that it was not a point of concern to the person asking.1 point -
Torture

It is one thing to torture someone on suspicion, but if there is irrefutable evidence that the suspect actually knows where that bomb is that could wipe out a whole city, is it justified?1 point -

My uncle was later captured by the Japanese and spent the following three years in a Japanese prison camp. Whatever happened there, he was never willing to talk about after he had been repatriated and sent home. God is Love! Jesus saves!1 point -
Torture

I am guessing they would not do it if it did not actually work. It would be ideal if it never happened at all, yet with the sheer depravity that exists in our world I cant see it ending any time soon.1 point -
Attack at Pearl Harbor, 1941
Kevin H reacted to rudywoofs (Pam) for a topic
My dad's 3rd cousin, Martin Vitousek and Martin's father, Roy, were in the family's Aeronca plane flying over the Islands when they were attacked by the first wave of Japanese planes heading to bomb Pearl Harbor. They have the distinction of the first American plane to be engaged in combat during WWII. My cousin (Martin's son) told me that in 1991 a Pearl Harbor Reunion was held for the Japanese who had been on the 1941 bombing mission, as well as the Americans. Martin and his family met one of the Japanese pilots who had shot at him and his father on that day. The man told them that he had orders to shoot down any aircraft that he encountered. So, seeing the Aeronca, he began to zero in on it. As he got closer to the plane, he could see the pilot (Martin's father). But when he saw young Martin, the pilot released the trigger for the guns and swooped away. He said he knew he might face death if it was found that he'd disobeyed orders by not shooting down the plane, but he felt in his heart that it would be unworthy to kill a child. http://archives.midweek.com/content/zones/east_news_article/family_plane_hit_by_zero_fighter/ Here's the plane1 point -
Sabbath Sermon: Adam and Steve

As a heterosexual I was born with a perverted nature (condition) that desires sex with as many women as possible (behavior). That's my condition by birth. Now shall I claim, as do some homosexuals, that's the way I am and why battle with it? Turn to Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery (sex outside the marriage), fornication (sex before marriage ), uncleanness, lewdness (unnatural, perverted sex such as sodomy, etc),.... and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. The question is "what is a practiced sin"? It's an unforgiven sin...a sin we refuse to acknowledge as sin and therefore in our judgment it is not sin. If adultery, fornication and sodomy are not sins then I don't need a Savior. That's the issue. Now turn to 1 John 1:8 "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us." What is sin (behavioral speaking)? The transgression of the law! While we aren't "under the law" the law still points out sin so we can flee to Christ for forgiveness and the power to overcome our besetting sins. This is not salvation by works because we already have eternal life in the doing & dying of Christ. On the contrary our fruit is the result of resting in Christ's finished work. If a homosexual has relapses and falls back into behavioral sins there is forgives. I perfectly understand besetting sins. The question is what do we do when we sin? Do we cover it up? Do we exclaim, "that's not sin and I will not repent"? If so, that's a practiced sin. Eventually any known practiced sin will lead you to renounce Christ and that leads to apostasy.1 point -
Question regarding the second death
Saleem reacted to 8thdaypriest for a topic
Hi Joshua, For a different take on the "Final Judgment - Lake of Fire", there's a study at my website. I do not believe that those judged at the Great White Throne final judgment are alive, or conscious. They "stand" before God, only in the sense of their records. Their is not third resurrection. They died physically, either at the Second Coming (consumed by the glory of God) or at Gog-Magog. Both of these would involve some degree of torment. (The GWT Judgment follows Gog-Magog.) The "second death" is a different TYPE of death. It is God's memory of them (like a heavenly download from the mind) which will be destroyed in the special "lake of fire" so that these persons can never be resurrected again. Only then will they be DEAD, to God. Rachel Cory Prophecy Viewpoint1 point -
