Years, decades, centuries, millennia in fact... The war on women began in the Garden of Eden when Adam blamed Eve for his own disobedience. "That woman you gave to me...." Sin does that... God said so.

Union College has posted the following information as of 4 PM, today, local time:

Wondering where this 'fad' will end and when. I am waiting, still, for a good explanation of why men would leave the church if 'feminization' were true. Why would that be an excuse? With men being the predominant feature of the church, currently, why have not women left in large numbers? Have women been seen as too passive to care? My personal belief, it is the fear of losing the male dominance of the past that brings out all these ridiculous ideas, a last gasp effort to hang on to the past. Maybe God has gotten tired of the delay by men and said I am calling everyone, with a loud voice, to finish the work. No longer will womens voices be drowned out by religious maneuvering because Gods voice is louder. I would suggest we start listening that voice.......in everything.

I find the photos extremely sad. Many patients in insane asylums who died in the 1800's through mid-1950's in the US ended up either in the asylum's barbaric laboratories or sent to medical schools. In fact, they were the primary source of cadavers for the med schools.. The people were sent there and most were never heard of again. No grave. No memorial. No nothing. Just...sad...

The history of capital punishment demonstrates that such steps are not nearly as effective as a deterrent as you think or would like them to be. The risk of being killed on the street while dealing drugs is much higher and much more immediate and even far more painful and gruesome. That drug dealers from rival gangs are all armed and dangerous and have a very short life expectancy, even apart from the legal system, demonstrates that they are willing to take that risk for the money. Greed has a way of impairing judgment like nothing else, probably as much as the addictive effects of the drugs themselves.

If we want the death penalty to be a deterrent, the execution of the sentence should be: (1) quick & certain (not 20 yrs down the road after the crime), (2) public (put it on prime time, not in private in the dead of night) (3) painful (not just lying down to sleep)

I'm thinking that the war on women is something that certain individuals/organizations are not going to give up on for awhile. The posting and reposting of articles/opinion blogs/etc, seem to be continuing on these forums. Hats off to the women though, they take it all in stride....as they have been doing for years!!

It is my view that many churches are struggling to remain relevant in society to both men and women. I don’t hold with the claim that churches are being “feminized”, yet my background is from the Salvation Army before joining the SDA who had several female “Generals” since the organization was founded along with female Officers (Pastors) also from the time it was begun. So I am used to the idea and it’s a non runner for me. I don’t see a great deal of difference with the SDA here in Australia as there are female pastors, elders and leadership here also. The first question I would ask someone that wants to make the claim that their church is being feminized is if their church has a men’s group and do they attend and support it? My experience is that over 90% of churches I have come across do not have a men’s ministry group that meets on a regular basis. Some churches put on a men’s breakfast from time to time but that is about it. My observation is that churches that put effort into having a thriving men’s ministry tend to have good numbers of men, including new Christians attending their church services also. My experience is that men’s ministry groups work with multiple focuses. Yes we meet for Bible Study and Prayer, We also like to do recreational things together like 10 pin bowling or fishing trips. A third popular activity is ministry in working together in manual labour to help people at the church with their gardening or to build things to do with church infrastructure or missions work. Many of us know a trade and are happy to work in that in our spare time as a part of the group to minister to the body of Christ with the gifts that G-d has given us. If a church does not have this outlet and has no men’s ministry at all, then is it really any surprise that they either attend elsewhere or lose interest over time in church? Who was it that said “as iron sharpens iron one man sharpens another”.. Does your church fellowship have a men’s ministry?

Getting back to the satire in Barely Adventist, I thinks it's pure fun. We need to be able to laugh at ourselves. I was raised Catholic more than half a century ago; and the things that happen in Catholic schools (pedophelia excluded). We get together at class reunions and make fun of it, because it is so funny (although it was deadly serious at the time). Being able to take something unpleasant and change it into something humorous through satire is medicine for the heart. Taking something unpleasant and turning it into and insult or embarrassment through satire is divisive and alienating.

That is an interesting statement. When a person choses to use satire how do we know if it is just humor; or making a point at all cost while hiding behind the cover of satire? Perhaps I am stuck in a time warp, but do we not have a responsibility to treat all with respect ... even if we disagree with their culture, religion, etc. No, it's not acceptable for the object of the ridicule to give them a black eye, or blow up their buildings when they openly make fun of you (print satire) but it can be a hard pill to take Satire can be used with class and be absolutely hysterical it can also be insulting and belittling. Humor is great but has its appropriate place in life ...We can laugh with a person or laugh at them

It is not uncommon for churches experiencing revival in Australia with people responding to altar calls to give their lives to Jesus or to put their lives right with Jesus for drugs and drug paraphernalia to be left at the altar as people turn away from it and into the new life that Jesus offers them. I would be absolutley overjoyed if the same thing happened at the conclusion of an SDA meeting in my own church!

ADHD overdiagnosed: Yes, and probably widely. Ritilan overused: Well known. However, the truth of the above does not mean that it is not a real condition. Your "deal with it" is actually a valid, at least partial response. E.G. Appropriate treatment may involve much more than a simple Rx for Ritilan.

That sort of reactionary response essentially seeks to absolve and shield those that serve to protect us from all wrong doing because of their mandate to serve and protect in the face of danger. It assumes a virtual immunity tantamount to an unrestricted license to kill with complete impunity. Not even the military has that when facing the enemy in battle At its core it is a blind foolishness and a gross misrepresentation of those that are protesting abuses of the powers and authority given to law enforcement. Nobody is disputing the good and valuable work and purpose of law enforce,ent and that the vast majority serve with honor and distinction and honorably within the bounds of the law. It is the abuses and violation of the very rules that law enforcement are bound to follow.
