John 3:13 "no one has ascended"
LifeHiscost and one other reacted to Ted Oplinger for a topic
Primevil60, Stating that the Law "started" at Moses would feed the falsehood currently being indulged by Christendom - that the Law is only Mosaic and meant only for the Jews. If the Law was "written down at Mt. Sinai"...it is implied already existed as a code of holiness/righteousness. John 1:17 backs this up, as Jesus says the Law was "given through Moses"...indicating the Law was already present before Mt. Sinai. Moses was given on tablets of stone something already in existence. This also would seem to imply prior knowledge by those more spiritually mature before Mt. Sinai. Looking at what Paul wrote in Romans, in the context of the whole book of Romans, the presence and permanence of the Law prior to Sinai is a given fact with Paul. How would Elijah being brought to the throne of God be a contradiction of John 1:18? Elijah was translated by grace - this indicates 1 Corinthians 15:53 is in play - his mortal, perishable body was exchanged for the immortal, imperishable glorified body. How then could he not see God and live? Jesus is speaking to those who have not gone through this exchange - no mortal man can see God and live. That is precisely what Christ told Moses Exodus 33:18-23...yet Moses was raised and serves this same God to this day. First through the mirror, dimly, then face-to-face - 1 Corinthians 13:12. Your thoughts on on building cities in heaven
Ronaldmync reacted to AnotherMan for a topic
When we dwell in the new earth, do you think we will build cities or dwell in gardens as did Adam and Eve...? Would we even build houses for that matter? I know there will be the New Jerusalem city. I am not dogmatic about any position just interested to see what others think - any scripture would be great :)1 point -
Ebola crisis in West Africa
RobertoDamp reacted to Gail for a topic
There is an Ebola outbreak happening in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia right now. The latest I've heard is that a patient was located in Nigeria, so now that country is involved. Ebola is VERY deadly as far as viruses go. I thought that the mortality rate is 60% but if a person does not get treatment it could be higher. The problems the foreign medical people were having is that the population suffers from lack of information. They believed that if their loved one went to hospital s/he wouldn't come out, that it was a death sentence. Others didn't want to give up the dead bodies, preferring that families handle their own dead. And that has led to the spread of the plague. My daughter-in-law through her non-profit was able to distribute 3500 * information packets through her staff, who are locals and are trusted. She is still working on this. But she has asked for prayer for her and Kevin's friends who are still in the country. Some are with Samaritan's Purse, who Kev used to work for. They are very concerned at this point. I've read that the head doctor working with the Ebola patients has now come down with the disease. Thanks for all who feel impressed to lift up petitions to God for the people of West Africa in this situation. * Note- I need to fix that number. It should be 3,025 packets. Sorry for the error- Gail1 point -

Mass Melodies Of Freedom

Saturday's highly publicised inaugural Festival of Religious Freedom closed with a high-energy concert. The performers, a mass choir of 150 voices and select vocalists, were at times spirited and at others meditative, with songs that had the congregation in spiritual jubilation both inside and outside the National Arena. Left out was two other persons from the church that wrote responses to the Melody article, in counterpoint!! One might want to gather all opinions on a subject before 'casting stones'. Selective reading can keep us from the full picture and truth. Truth being in the eye of the beholder. We all have our background and preconceptions that guide our opinions. 4 People watching a crime take place have 4 different view points of what they saw. That is why much time is spent in gathering all the information available, research if you will. Our Spiritual life should be no different.1 point -
The Pastor's Wife

Gladys was the preacher's wife and accompanied her husband each Sunday to church. One particular Sunday when the sermon seemed to go on forever, many in the congregation fell asleep. After the service, to be sociable, she walked up to a very sleepy looking gentleman. In an attempt to revive him from his stupor, she extended her hand in greeting, and said, "Hello, I'm Gladys Dunn." To which the gentleman replied, "You're not the only one!"1 point -

Stewart said: What translation did you use in the above? I have checked both the NIV and the NKJV and neither states that the whip consisted of small cords. both say ". . . he made a whip out of cords." Neither say that the whip was made of small cords. O.K. The KJV, which I have now checked, uses the term "small cords." Also, you are correct is suggesting that the Greek word references plaited rushes. So, I stand corrected and I have answered my own question.1 point -
Cating Out the Sellers and the Buyers From The Temple
phkrause reacted to Kevin H for a topic
Excellent insight; others have noticed this as well. Jim Fleming does not talk about the divinity flashing through humanity in those words but hints at it on how it was something about Jesus that caused the money changers to run, but that it would not have scared the animals so the whip was to make the sound to scare the animals out. Then Graham Maxwell has pointed out that when this happened, you did not only have the money changers and animals running out, but that the flash caused people to run in two directions. The money changers running away and children and the sick and poor running with joy TO Jesus. How many children run to an angry man holding a whip? Yet there was something about Jesus' anger and that flash of divinity that made the children and others want to be with him!1 point -
Peace
phkrause reacted to joeb for a topic
Is there a price that is too high to pay for peace? Jesus thought so, and said so: Matthew 10:24 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. Peace at any price, otherwise called appeasement, has never brought peace. It has only brought about the sacrifice of principle and the strengthening of evil. I will have peace whenever possible, but not when it comes at the price of principle and truth. Jesus thought the same, that's why He said He came to send a sword for there can never be real peace between good and evil.1 point -
EEOC: School Wrong to Fire Teacher Who Gave Bible to Student Todd Starnes

EEOC: School Wrong to Fire Teacher Who Gave Bible to Student Todd Starnes | Jan 07, 2015 PHILLIPSBURG, N.J -- A New Jersey school district violated the law when it fired a teacher who handed a Bible to a student, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ruled on December 15, 2014. The ruling was made public Tuesday. The EEOC determined there was reasonable cause to believe the Phillipsburg School District discriminated against Walt Tutka, a substitute teacher. The EEOC also said religion and retaliation played a factor in Tutka's firing. "This is a great indication the EEOC is taking religious liberty seriously and they are going to enforce the law—and in this case make sure Walt's rights are protected," Liberty Institute Attorney Hiram Sasser told me. Liberty Institute is a law firm that specializes in religious liberty cases. "This sends a message to school districts that their natural allergic reaction to religion is misplaced, and not only is it wrong—but it's also an egregious violation of the law," Sasser said. As I first reported, Tutka was working as a substitute teacher on Oct. 12, 2013, when he ran afoul of school policies. He told a straggling student at the end of a line, "The first shall be last and the last shall be first." The student asked on a number of occasions where the line was from, and Tutka told him it was from the Bible. When he discovered the child did not have a Bible, Tutka gave him his personal copy. It was not all that unusual because Tutka is a member of Gideons International, a ministry known for providing Bibles to school children across the world. On Oct. 18, Tutka was summoned to the principal's office, where he was accused of violating a school policy that bans the distribution of religious materials and another that directs teachers to be neutral when discussion religious material. He was fired on Jan. 14. Sasser said he hopes the school district will reinstate Tutka. "If they don't do the right thing, they will face some serious consequences," he told me. "They are going to be liable for damages." I reached out to George Chando, the superintendent of the Phillipsburg School District. He declined to return my call. My advice to him is to do the right thing, or Liberty Institute will go after him like a pit bull going after a pork chop. Sasser said the EEOC ruling should serve as a warning to other school districts around the nation. "You can't just fire people because they happen to hand a Bible to somebody while they are at work," he said. Sasser said he believes the school district was out to get Walt because he is a Gideon. I obtained a copy of an emailfrom Phillipsburg Middle School Assistant Principal John Stillo that suggest the school district had an issue with the well-known religious group. "It has been brought to the administration's attention that Gideons may be near our campus to distribute literature to our students," Stillo wrote in a memo to the school's staff. "Please make sure they DO NOT step foot onto our campus at any time. There will be added police and security presence at dismissal." Gideon International has a long history of providing Bibles to public school students, but many districts have banned the religious society in recent years. Ironically, the Gideons are welcome to distribute Bibles and deliver speeches in Russian schools. The Phillipsburg School District should rehire Walt. And it owes him a big apology. They waged a disgusting public war against this fine, upstanding man simply because he gave a child a Bible. Shame on you, Phillipsburg School District. Shame on you.1 point -

Out of people who were exposed to Ebola through Patrick Sawyer, the American who died in Nigeria, one is confirmed with the disease and 8 more are suspected as having come down with it. A man traveling from Sierra Leone to Saudi Arabia is being tested for Ebola as well. The Washington Post is reporting that Liberians have been spooked by information to disinfect their homes and are now dumping their dead INTO THE STREETS, if you can imagine! Heavenly Father, we know from Jesus' words that evil things will come on the earth before He returns, that the things we hear about are but the beginning of sorrows. I ask for mercy for the people in West Africa. Many of those people are destitute of your Word and Your love. It is still a dark continent, but I would like to pray for them as this scourge ravages its people. When/if the people look up I pray that angels will attend them. May the information get out to all who need it, as well as medical aid. In Jesus' precious name- amen1 point
