Valley Grande Academy Closing

The school currently has 170 students and recruitment shows that it was to have more in the coming year. My children have attended the school since first grade. The academy is on the east side of Hidalgo county in south Texas. There is another Adventist academy on the west side of the same county. An Adventist elementary school just closed down in the neighboring county to the east. It was was15 miles east of Valley Grande Academy and they were already making plans - before today's news - to open it again next year. Please pray for this school. There is no reason an Adventist school with 170 students should be closing.3 points -

I never was a Star Trek Fan, but I am sad to have just seen that Leonard Nimoy has died. I remember him from other programs and from the little bit of being in people's homes where they had Star Trek on. Remember seeing him on TV talk about how he came to take God and the Bible seriously in his life in the Jewish faith. And that some Adventists were thinking about using him for a series on the Sabbath since he loved the Sabbath.3 points -
in preparation for joining a denomination
Stan and one other reacted to rudywoofs (Pam) for a topic
What exactly should people know about a denomination before they join? Should they know the general history of the church, as well as the beliefs? In talking with some people who have been members of the Adventist church for 50+ years, I found that they have absolutely no clue about the history of the denomination. I found that to be incredibly naive. When I asked why they joined the SDA church, the answer was that they had determined that Saturday was the Sabbath. When I asked if they had looked at other Sabbath-keeping denominations to compare the beliefs, they said they didn't do that. Does this sound odd to anyone else?2 points -

Michael was the Captain of the armies in heaven. (Rev 12:7) When "the captain of the Lord's host" came upon the scene at Jericho and spoke with Joshua, it becomes very apparent that the Captain of the Lord's army is Christ Himself. Whether in heaven or upon the earth, Michael is the Captain of the Lord's armies. Joshua chapter 5 ends with the Captain saying to Joshua, "loose thy shoe from off thy foot", then the chapter break occurs, but the Captain continues speaking to Joshua in chapter 6. Now His language is more explicit, "And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour." Michael was and is the Divine Captain of the Lord's host. __________________ Scuba, you appear to be working here as a correcter, a revealer of errors... but do you acknowledge that you are a stranger in another man's house? Creation and Compromise

I think a better way of saying this is, how readily some "Christians" exchange God for "a god", and that god is science. Why do I say that? Because we either believe God is who He says He is, or we reject who God Himself says He is and accept another source as the authority. Both sources cannot be right for they are diametrically opposed to each other. God either created us as He said He did, or we just happened along by some freak of impossibly high odds.2 points -

The child then went to his mother, asked her the same question and she told him, "We were monkeys then we evolved to become like we are now." The child ran back to his father and said, "You lied to me!" His father replied, "No, your mom was talking about her side of the family."1 point -

February 25, 2012 - New International Version Matthew 6:1-18 Giving to the Needy 1 "Be careful not to do your 'acts of righteousness' before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 "So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Prayer 6:9-13pp -- Lk 11:2-4 5 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. ' 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Fasting 16 "When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. Exodus 33:1-23 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of Egypt, and go up to the land I promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' 2 I will send an angel before you and drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 3 Go up to the land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people and I might destroy you on the way." 4 When the people heard these distressing words, they began to mourn and no one put on any ornaments. 5 For the LORD had said to Moses, "Tell the Israelites, 'You are a stiff-necked people. If I were to go with you even for a moment, I might destroy you. Now take off your ornaments and I will decide what to do with you.' " 6 So the Israelites stripped off their ornaments at Mount Horeb. The Tent of Meeting 7 Now Moses used to take a tent and pitch it outside the camp some distance away, calling it the "tent of meeting." Anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the tent of meeting outside the camp. 8 And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people rose and stood at the entrances to their tents, watching Moses until he entered the tent. 9 As Moses went into the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and stay at the entrance, while the LORD spoke with Moses. 10 Whenever the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they all stood and worshiped, each at the entrance to his tent. 11 The LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent. Moses and the Glory of the LORD 12 Moses said to the LORD, "You have been telling me, 'Lead these people,' but you have not let me know whom you will send with me. You have said, 'I know you by name and you have found favor with me.' 13 If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people." 14 The LORD replied, "My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." 15 Then Moses said to him, "If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. 16 How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?" 17 And the LORD said to Moses, "I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name." 18 Then Moses said, "Now show me your glory." 19 And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 20 But," he said, "you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live." 21 Then the LORD said, "There is a place near me where you may stand on a rock. 22 When my glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft in the rock and cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will remove my hand and you will see my back; but my face must not be seen." Exodus 34:1-35 The New Stone Tablets 1 The LORD said to Moses, "Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I will write on them the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. 2 Be ready in the morning, and then come up on Mount Sinai. Present yourself to me there on top of the mountain. 3 No one is to come with you or be seen anywhere on the mountain; not even the flocks and herds may graze in front of the mountain." 4 So Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning, as the LORD had commanded him; and he carried the two stone tablets in his hands. 5 Then the LORD came down in the cloud and stood there with him and proclaimed his name, the LORD. 6 And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, 7 maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children and their children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation." 8 Moses bowed to the ground at once and worshiped. 9 "O Lord, if I have found favor in your eyes," he said, "then let the Lord go with us. Although this is a stiff-necked people, forgive our wickedness and our sin, and take us as your inheritance." 10 Then the LORD said: "I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in any nation in all the world. The people you live among will see how awesome is the work that I, the LORD, will do for you. 11 Obey what I command you today. I will drive out before you the Amorites, Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. 12 Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land where you are going, or they will be a snare among you. 13 Break down their altars, smash their sacred stones and cut down their Asherah poles. 14 Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. 15 "Be careful not to make a treaty with those who live in the land; for when they prostitute themselves to their gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you and you will eat their sacrifices. 16 And when you choose some of their daughters as wives for your sons and those daughters prostitute themselves to their gods, they will lead your sons to do the same. 17 "Do not make cast idols. 18 "Celebrate the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days eat bread made without yeast, as I commanded you. Do this at the appointed time in the month of Abib, for in that month you came out of Egypt. 19 "The first offspring of every womb belongs to me, including all the firstborn males of your livestock, whether from herd or flock. 20 Redeem the firstborn donkey with a lamb, but if you do not redeem it, break its neck. Redeem all your firstborn sons. "No one is to appear before me empty-handed. 21 "Six days you shall labor, but on the seventh day you shall rest; even during the plowing season and harvest you must rest. 22 "Celebrate the Feast of Weeks with the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the turn of the year. 23 Three times a year all your men are to appear before the Sovereign LORD, the God of Israel. 24 I will drive out nations before you and enlarge your territory, and no one will covet your land when you go up three times each year to appear before the LORD your God. 25 "Do not offer the blood of a sacrifice to me along with anything containing yeast, and do not let any of the sacrifice from the Passover Feast remain until morning. 26 "Bring the best of the firstfruits of your soil to the house of the LORD your God. "Do not cook a young goat in its mother's milk." 27 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." 28 Moses was there with the LORD forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant--the Ten Commandments. The Radiant Face of Moses 29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the Testimony in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the LORD. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the LORD had given him on Mount Sinai. 33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the LORD's presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the LORD. Proverbs 15:1-33 1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. 2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. 3 The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. 4 The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. 5 A fool spurns his father's discipline, but whoever heeds correction shows prudence. 6 The house of the righteous contains great treasure, but the income of the wicked brings them trouble. 7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools. 8 The LORD detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him. 9 The LORD detests the way of the wicked but he loves those who pursue righteousness. 10 Stern discipline awaits him who leaves the path; he who hates correction will die. 11 Death and Destruction lie open before the LORD-- how much more the hearts of men! 12 A mocker resents correction; he will not consult the wise. 13 A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit. 14 The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly. 15 All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast. 16 Better a little with the fear of the LORD than great wealth with turmoil. 17 Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred. 18 A hot-tempered man stirs up dissension, but a patient man calms a quarrel. 19 The way of the sluggard is blocked with thorns, but the path of the upright is a highway. 20 A wise son brings joy to his father, but a foolish man despises his mother. 21 Folly delights a man who lacks judgment, but a man of understanding keeps a straight course. 22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. 23 A man finds joy in giving an apt reply-- and how good is a timely word! 24 The path of life leads upward for the wise to keep him from going down to the grave. 25 The LORD tears down the proud man's house but he keeps the widow's boundaries intact. 26 The LORD detests the thoughts of the wicked, but those of the pure are pleasing to him. 27 A greedy man brings trouble to his family, but he who hates bribes will live. 28 The heart of the righteous weighs its answers, but the mouth of the wicked gushes evil. 29 The LORD is far from the wicked but he hears the prayer of the righteous. 30 A cheerful look brings joy to the heart, and good news gives health to the bones. 31 He who listens to a life-giving rebuke will be at home among the wise. 32 He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding. 33 The fear of the LORD teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.1 point -
John 3:13 "no one has ascended"
Vitezhish reacted to 8thdaypriest for a topic
This question was probably answered on another thread, and if so perhaps someone could just give me that link. NIV John 3:13 No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven-- the Son of Man.1 (Joh 3:13 NIV) Also “No one has seen God at any time (John 1:18). and Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father” (Jn 6:46). God the Father dwells in "unapproachable light whom no one has seen or can see" (I Tim 6:14). Enoch, Elijah, and Moses could have been translated to "heaven" but still not have entered that light, or have "seen God". How do we answer folks who say that Enoch, Moses and Elijah did not go to heaven? Who say that Enoch and Elijah were just transported to another location on the earth, and later died like everyone else. Like Philip was transported in the NT. If "no one has ascended" - at least at the time Jesus spoke those words, that would mean that those three men were/are still sleeping in death. There is a clue in Romans where Paul said, "death reigned from Adam to Moses" (Rom 5:14). Something involving death changed with Moses. If death no longer reigned supreme and unchallenged that sounds like a resurrection to me. Of course, I've always had a question concerning just who buried Moses. Why would Michael bury him, if he planned to resurrect him right away? I think I understand why only Moses and Elijah came to speak with Christ prior to His ordeal. According to the law, only two witnesses were required. Thanks - in advance - for any input Rachel1 point -

Are Michael and Jesus one and the same? The answer is, no.
Vitezhish reacted to Scuba for a topic
God uses mediators to interact with His creation. God has spoken to His creation in many different ways throughout the Old Testament (Hebrews 1:1-2). Michael, as the Archangel or chief messenger of God, is one of those ways. The term, Archangel, defines Michael as the chief way God interacted with His creation in times past but this is no longer the case. In these last days God is speaking to us through His Son, Jesus (Hebrews 1:1-2). In other words, Michael was used more than any other in times past but now God is speaking to us through His Son. The same word/logos that came through Michael, as God's chief messenger in times past, is now, in these last days, coming through Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5). When Jesus returns, Michael will be accompanying Him (Matthew 16:27 & Matthew 25:31 & 1 Thessalonians 4:16). The word/logos of God is eternal because God is eternal. Angels are created and Jesus was born making Him the beginning of God's new creation (Revelation 3:14) but the word of God/logos is eternal. Both Michael and Jesus had to obey the eternal logos of God. The logos of God is God in that it carries the power and authority of God Himself (John 1:1). If you resist the logos of God, you resist God. Anyone who speaks the logos of God is given the title, God, because he represents God and speaks for God (John 10:34-35). Jesus was 100% man with the fullness of God dwelling in Him (Colossians 2:9). The Spirit of God carries the logos of God and the power of God (Proverbs 1:23). Jesus speaks the logos of God because He was given God's Spirit without limit (John 3:34). Jesus had within Himself God's word, as well as, His own words. God's word is eternal, Jesus' words were temporal. Jesus had to resist His temporal words in order to speak God's eternal words (John 7:16 & John 14:24). Jesus had to learn to obey the words of God, His Father, lest He be disqualified as the unblemished sacrifice (Hebrews 5:8-9). Conclusion: God, in times past, spoke and interacted with His creation in many different ways but in these last days He is speaking to us through His Son, Jesus Christ, through whom He created the new creation, the age to come, the kingdom of God. Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also *He made the world to come. *Hebrews 2:5 For He has not put the world to come, of which we speak, in subjection to angels.1 point -

Doctrines, Teachings & Policies
Johann reacted to Ron Lambert for a topic
I would have to enter an emphatic caveat to the idea of seeking unity by following majority rule in the denomination. Truth is not a democracy, and the Church as the Body of Christ is not a democracy. The ONLY unity that is worth anything is unity based on following Christ, the Head of the church. Submitting to the majority of the denomination in place of following the will of Christ communicated through the Holy Spirit, amounts to creature-worship, in the hour when humanity is called to worship the Creator. Even the Church is part of the creature. If we accord to the Church greater authority than Christ, then we are in danger of receiving the Mark of the Beast, because creature-worship is the worship of the beast. I have noticed a disturbing tendency in those who are part of the Anti-Women's Ordination Movement in Adventism: the tendency to dismiss the Spirit of Prophecy as irrelevant. Many of the people who speak against women's ordination deliberately distance themselves from the writings of Ellen G. White, saying things like "I want to go by the Word of God." While I agree that the Bible is above Ellen G. White, I still must note that those who speak against women's ordination only set aside the Spirit of Prophecy when they are talking about women's ordination; most of them still freely quote from her when they are speaking about any other subject. This movement to dismiss the Spirit of Prophecy seems to have begun with the 1973-1978 class action lawsuit of Silver Vs. Pacific Press, inwhich the church leadership and their attorneys spent five years arguing in court that they should not have to obey the 1964 Civil Rights Act because they were a church. During this court case, the church leadership avoided saying anything about Ellen G. White's writings, because in fact she said a number of things that directly contradicted their position. The fact is that Sister White wrote that women in all denominational institutions should be paid the same as men for doing the same work, and this inspired, divine instruction was ignored and disobeyed for over 100 years. Now we see that those who are opposed to women's ordination are also trying to get people to set aside Sister White's writings. Why? Because she said things like the following: “There are women who should labor in the gospel ministry. In many respects they would do more good than the ministers who neglect to visit the flock of God. Husband and wife may unite in this work, and when it is possible, they should. The way is open for consecrated women. But the enemy would be pleased to have the women whom God could use to help hundreds, binding up their time and strength on one helpless little mortal, that requires constant care and attention.” (Daughters of God, p. 202; 5MR 325, 326 I would leave to their own fate anyone who would quibble about whether a person called by God to the gospel ministry should not be ordained merely because that person is a woman. Notice that Sister White does not say that all women, or even many women, should labor in the gospel ministry. She does not say it is wrong for all women, or even most women, to have their time taken up by child-rearing. But she plainly tells us that there are some women who can and should be free to labor in the gospel ministry, unencumbered by children. God can use such women. It is only the enemy who is pleased to see such women denied the office and work God Himself has qualified them for. It is no wonder that those trying to hold on to the conservative tradition of denying ordination to women, wish to avoid having to deal with such clear and explicit statements by the woman they OTHERWISE accept as a divinely-inspired prophet. Some of those who try to maintain that the Bible does not support the ordaining of women would do well to look at Romans 16:1, where Paul said: "I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is a servant of the church in Cenchrea...." That is how it is translated in the KJV and NKJV. But if you check the original Greek, you will find that the word translated "servant" is not doulos, but rather is diakonos. Diakonos is the Greek word from which we get the English word, "deacon." The NRSV is honest about this, and translates it correctly: "I commend to you our sister Phoe'be, a deacon of the church at Cen'chreae...." Paul uses doulos or oiketes to refer to common servants or slaves. He only uses diakonos when referring to the ordained officer of a church, either a deacon or a minister. In Ephesians 3:7 Paul refers to himself as a "minister according to the gift of the grace of God." The word there translated as minister is diakonos. So whether Phoebe was a deacon (there was no separate Greek word for deaconess) or a minister, Acts 6 tells us that deacons were ordained by the laying on of hands in the New Testament Church, so Phoebe was ordained, and Paul commended her. Some people seize upon those Bible texts where the masculine is used to refer to deacons or other church officers, such as 1 Tim. 3:11. But there are other texts like James 1:5-8, which says "he" and "him" and "that man," yet nobody doubts that it applies to women too. In 1 Testimonies 577, 578, Ellen G. White related a very disturbing dream, which appears to be a prophetic dream that one day, some church leaders would march on her house like a Catholic procession, and declare her and her works "proscribed." Many of us in the past thought it would be liberals in our church who would fulfill this prophecy. But it now appears that it is conservatives who are fulfilling this prophecy. The Anti-Women's Ordination Movment in Adventism is nurturing a covert anti-Spirit of Prophecy movement, because in truth, opposing the ordination of women is not compatible with the Spirit of Prophecy. And in addition, all efforts to support opposition to women's ordination by the Bible is based on poor scholarship and wresting of Scripture. I do not write these things to accuse anyone. I am trying to warn everyone of what they really might become ensared with if they go along with the Anti-Women's Ordination Movement.1 point -

Don't judge Stewart. Every person who comes to this forum (except the occasional atheist) believes he/she will answer to God. We don't need to be reminded. You have not read many of my posts, or you would know that I have walked with the LORD for some 36 years (since I was 30). I was VERY serious. I believe the Michael who contended for the body of Moses WAS the pre-incarnate Son of God. He is known as "the messenger of the Covenant" (Malachi 3:1) - "The angel of the Covenant". He is the "Angel of the LORD" all thru the OT. There is a study at my website titled "The Mediator". In that study I go back thru all the places where "the LORD" appeared to human beings, in the form of a man. Since "no man has seen the Father", that means "the LORD" who "appeared to" men of old, must have been God's Son.1 point -

Ezekiel 37 is about the resurrection of the "whole house of Israel" - which I believe will be all of the redeemed at the Second Coming. This is Ezekiel, told to "prophesy to these bones". His prophesy to "the bones" is that the LORD will one day resurrect them to life. Ezekiel is NOT speaking to any SPECIFIC MAN OR WOMAN - who was dead at the time. He is speaking to "bones" which REPRESENT the "whole house of Israel". The scene is much different from a seance.1 point -
