It was 1981. I had returned to the United States from a tour in Korea and I had been assigned to a unit at Ft. Bragg, NC, the home of the 82nd Airborne. As a single parent, with joint custody, my two sons had arrived to spend the Summer with me. A Special Forces unit was doing a demonstration jump on a drop zone equipped for viewing by the public and my children wanted to watch it. I had never visited any of the drop zones. So, I carefully reviewed a map, and enquired of a Sgt. as to how to take my sons to the place where they could sit in the bleachers and watch. What he did not tell me was that he had never been to that drop zone either. Anyway, we figured out a way to get there that seemingly included driving over a portion of unpaved and lightly marked road. So, I started out in my 1981, red, Mercury Lynx. At what I thought to be the right place, I turned off the paved road onto the unpaved portion. Soon I realized that something had gone wrong. My oldest son was picking up on the wheels of my car that were lugging down in the shifting sand. He sat there in the seat saying: "Front wheel drive will go anywhere, won't they, Dad?" I realized that if I stopped I would be stuck, in the middle of no where, and my only realistic choice was to continue forward. Finally I relaxed as I saw ahead of me the bleachers with people sitting there waiting for the jump. I was about to make it! Just then I heard strange sounds coming from the sides of my moving automobile and I turned to look into the face of a Special Forces soldier who was landing very close to my traveling car. They were coming down on each side and to the rear. I was driving my car in the middle of a jump! I could only imagine the scene 2,000 feet up in the air: The jumpmaster addressed the solders in the two flights: Some idiot is driving a red automobile across our jump zone. We are going to give them a show and you will jump anyway. We are Special Forces. Be alert and do not land in front of that idiot. Well, I reached the pavement in front of the bleachers I high-tailed it out of there. I knew that someone must have gotten a description of my car and license plate number. I waited for my Commander to address the issue with me and to potentially bring my military service to an end. It never came. By the way, I never talked about it while assigned to Ft. Bragg. My sons, they had an experience to remember.

The rest we have in Christ removes the meritorious mindset in all that we do. We don't honor the seventh day in order to be saved, we honor it because we are saved. This is why we are not to judge anyone in what they do on the Sabbath because it's not to be honored with a meritorious mindset.

Heartbroken' Couple Denied Foster Children Because of Legal Gun Permits Mar 07, 2015 // 11:52am As seen on Fox and Friends Weekend A Nevada couple has been told that they can't adopt a 12-year-old child because they have legal concealed-carry permits. Brian and Valerie Wilson asked the Assembly Judiciary Committee last week to approve a bill that would allow them to carry loaded weapons and serve as foster parents. The couple’s attempts at adopting have been stopped by regulations requiring that guns and ammunition be stored in separate, secure containers in any home where foster children reside. "My wife Valerie and I have been together since high school," Wilson told the committee. "We have always planned from early on that we would adopt later in life. We, in 2013, decided it was now time to go ahead and adopt and complete our family." "There [are] a lot of older children in the system that need homes." "I am really heartbroken that the Department of Child and Family Services gave us this denial letter,” Valerie Wilson said to the committee. "I really want a family." A spokesperson for the department said the reason the Wilsons were denied was a concern about the ability of a foster child to gain access to a loaded weapon. Tucker Carlson reacted this morning on "Fox and Friends Weekend." "They're ideologues and they hate guns," he said. "The sad part is all the kids who are languishing in the foster care system, going from home to home. And all the creepy, unfit people who do get to adopt. And they're penalizing these people? Anyone who spends time reading and prayerfully studying the Scriptures, researching history and seeking God for insight will soon come to see a massive, worldwide religious system that has influenced much of what the people of God believe today. When God says the whole world is under the sway of the evil one, He wasn't kidding. Let me point out a few things that have taken God's people by storm. 1. Sunday is not the Lord's day. 2. The Apostles and the early church never gathered on the first day. 3. Jesus didn't die on Good Friday and rise on Easter Sunday. 4. Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. 5. Easter is not a Christian holiday. 6. There is no immortal soul. 7. There is no eternal burning place under the earth called hell. 8. People don't die and go to heaven. 9. People don't die and go to hell. 10. The co-eternal, co-equal trinity God is man made. People have been tortured and even put to death because of these above beliefs. I myself could be in danger of excommunication just for posting them. Let us take the hand of God and allow Him to completely lead us out of Babylon.

Every time I hear someone say something like that about Fox (e.g. that it's the only way to get the full story that the 'liberal media' leave out), I'm reminded of the advice: "If someone you know is a jerk, they're a jerk. If everyone you know is a jerk, you're the jerk." There are many many media sources, ranging from far right (nationalreview, wnd, Drudgereport, etc.) To left (alternet, dailyKOS, huffpo...). In between you have bigger things like Fox on the right and MSNBC on the left, but if you put all of the solid non-fox sources like economist, NY times, washingtonpost, financial times, csmonitor, etc. in the 'liberal' camp, then I think you're the one with the poorly Calibrated compass. If you're talking about just TV news, it's mostly sensationalized [censored] regardless of what station you're watching. Most of the seem more interested in entertaining than in providing anything resembling thoughtful, reasoned analysis regardless of what political party you prefer. I don't see CNN as liberal so much as just bad.

Ready , aim, fire... Missed again. Read this again: Note the number of incidents involving children where the gun is in the hands of the adult. Think about how these come about. Having a concealed carry permit means the guns will be out of the gun locker, loaded and ready for use. Otherwise, what is the point? Having a gun in the house for self defense will mean it will be out of the gun safe ready for use. How effective will it be for that purpose of it is locked safely in the gun safe when an intruder surprises the homeowner? Favorite place? Night stand beside the bed. Within easy reach of a curious toddler. Notice the stats ( remember you said they don't lie) on how few people actually practice basic gun safety.

What a great message! I am impressed. It's a beautiful appeal for all readers here to resist prejudice against female gender. <Grin> why, it's almost romanticly written. BTW.... there has been no expression of misogyny by any male or female posters in this thread. Not in the least. Just alarm that the bible text became yet another alteration. The Clear Word has EGW text sprinkled here and there. Is that not an alteration?

Hardship doesn't equal responsibility, neither it means better upbringing. Better upbringing has a healthy balance of competition with a dose of community-based morality that doesn't leave people bite the dust and trampled upon by the rest. Likewise, how is this even relevant to what he is writing about? What kind of argument is that?

As I wrote in my very first sentence, "assuming the text of the Bible was altered for this version", it wasn't really necessary to go much beyond "no, the text was not changed." That would have been the end of the matter. If it had, it would not be the first time any Christian group had worked to gender neutral the Bible. Some can not even pray to "Our Father" but have changed it to "Our Heavenly Parent." As for the "Adventist hater", you end up there sometimes just researching various topics. Even sites that seem reasonably Christian will when you look further put SDAs in a cult category and list the Clear Word as a reason. Just to be clear, "hating on" and "haters" seems to be a growing term for any group that puts down or harshly criticizes another or even just a topic. I believe we even had one post with the last couple of days with "hating on" as part of the title. As far as the link to info on this Bible, it could have been provided in the OP. As far as criticizing the JW Bible, I have seen it often in literature regarding JWs and the errors of their doctrine, such as there was no cross but a "crucifixion stake". That is just one really easy one and there are other issues regarding the divinity of Jesus. Just for the record, any unaltered biblical text can be paired with any study guides designed for any group at any time without a problem. In fact, most Bibles seem to come with some sort of study guides these days, I have several.

It is true there are less babies and very young children to adopt,but not so for older children. The child in this story is 12 years old. And yes they can be hard to place even in foster homes. Is the child safer in a home that has ATV's and allow the children to ride/drive them? 87 children in two months is a complete tragedy, I can't even begin to comprehend the parents that have to deal with that. 40,000 injuries and deaths due to incorrect use or accidental use of ATV's is a far greater and far more frequent tragedy number wise. "But the point is not what the owner intends or only uses their guns for. The point of the question was how many unintended deaths or serious harm happen by weapons kept for such purposes despite the best of intentions and safety precautions taken? More specifically how many children die as a result of getting hold of guns in the home or somebody else's misuse of such guns? The question is not about proper use, sports or hunting. It is about what happens when guns and children are continuously in close proximity all of the time and the probability of harm as a result. It is not what the owners of ATV's intends but what the end result is. Far greater numbers. Everything in the above paragraph is as applicable to ATV's and their improper use as it is to guns. To disqualify these parents from providing a permanent and stable home for this 12 year old is another tragedy. At his age there is not a line up of perspective parents vying to adopt him. He may very likely end up as so many older children,never having a home of their own or parents. Yet if they owned ATV's ,something that injures and kills far more by thousands they would be acceptable

I never knew there was a Pathfinder Bible. I'll have to try to get one for my grandchildren.

One thing I just noticed in this Bible that is a real plus for me, is that there are footnotes for when the manuscripts differ. I like to be aware of those differences. Another feature that I discovered is a series of topical studies at the back of the book including charts on the 1260 and 2300 days, the Sabbath and the state of the dead, among other things. Definitely a Seventh-Day Adventist study Bible!

And some meals need that prayer!

It amazes me about how long some people will chew on an old bone. The Clear Word was never designed to be a Bible, but a "devotional paraphrase of the Bible expanded for clarity". All of this dates back to the early 90ties .... have we not gone beyond that? Secondly, why spend time on Adventist Hater websites? There are many people out there who are waiting for someone to come to them in love and share God's Holy Word with them ... IMO isn't that closer to being disciples than some negative site? Just curious, have you read the Clear Word or any devotional, study Bible? Lastly, who is criticizing the JW and their Bible? We are no one's judge and the holy Spirit will deal with issues such as this. Who really cares if the Adventist Haters Websites calls us a cult ... we know the truth and the truth will set us free. Before our Lord returns we will be called much worst things .... just hold fast to the Bible truths and share the gospel.

Some would prefer to deny women even a token of special recognition... It is ironic that those who are most likely to consider women as something quite different from men, bristle and bluster at the idea of women having anything uniquely designed for women. I might expect more opposition from some hard core equality ideologue... But to me what that sort of reaction seems to reveal more than anything is simply a distain of women which cares little for them, having little or no regard for them, not whether they are special and unique, nor whether they are equal and very much the same as men in many ways. It is an attitude that says they deserve nothing special or different or helpful to them, nor anything at all. Just forget about them because they are not all that important.

Just what we need, assuming the text of the Bible was altered for this version. We are already being called a "cult" on some Adventist hater websites because of the Clear Word bible. And it seems a bit disingenuous to criticize other religions when they go and alter the Bible to suit their own needs, such as the Jehovah Witnesses, and then we go and put one out that does the same thing.

She nudged the man on her right. “See that girl, the one with her hand on the Bible? Her brother’s a doctor!”

That doesn't seem to follow with the rest of what you stated. The fact that the redeemed will be changed doesn't say anything about whether Jesus is still Jewish. If he's still the Son of God and the Son of Man, wouldn't he still be the son of Mary, his Jewish mother? Jesus was Jewish when he received the scars of execution. He still had those scars in his Jewish flesh when he showed them to Thomas who had doubted what the other disciples told him after the resurrection. I think Ellen White states that Jesus will still have those scars in his flesh when the redeemed talk to Jesus after the second coming.

Since when did preaching the true gospel insure to acceptance by the majority? When I left the church for a time, it was not because someone did or said something bad to me. It was not because the Church was answering questions nobody was asking. I left in response to the world beckoning me. I suspect many who are leaving today were/are in the same boat I was in. And as in the parable of the sower, many are leaving because the Seed could not take deep root because of a stony ground. In the other instance, the Seed was choked by the weeds.

In the documented history of Christianity there were periods when leaders like Constantine put a lot of effort into removing the traces of Jewishness from Christianity. Those efforts were largely successful. In a sense, they re-created Jesus in their own image-- handing down to us a perception of Jesus that is "comfortable" for Gentiles. Today, when Christians think of what it means to be "Christ-like" most people base their ideas on that de-Jewish-ized image of Jesus. There is virtually no realization that Jesus was holy, according to God's definition of holiness laid out in the Old Testament. Few people realize that being "Christ-like" includes living as Jesus did according to God's instructions in the Old Testament. At the same time as Christians were distancing themselves from things Jewish, the Jews were distancing themselves from Christianity. So both groups have distanced themselves from the Messiah. For me, the issue of whether Jesus remains Jewish is not about his race or whether he followed the man-made traditions of the Jews. What is important is whether those who claim to be followers of Jesus accept Jesus as he truly was, or if they are content with the pale man-made image of Jesus stripped of the Old Testament truths of God's Word.

This thread intends to inform our readers about Charles and Leona Burman. The Burmans have recently been recognized for their role in the founding of what has become the The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada's school of higher education: Burman University.

Brick-and-mortar bookstores are failing, brick-and-mortar "big-box" stores are failing. If you want to, you can do all your shopping (including groceries) and never leave your computer or smart phone. If people are spending more time on the internet and social media than they do at work, maybe the church needs to focus on "virtual" church. In a way, ClubAdventist is "virtual" church. I spend more time here; and have more intimate discussions here than I do at my 'bricks-and-mortar" church. In a way, ClubAdventist is my home church. Just because they aren't in church doesn't mean millenials are turning their backs on God. More than half of the participants in my weekly "Book Club" (fka Bible Study) at work are millennials.
