Every time I hear someone say something like that about Fox (e.g. that it's the only way to get the full story that the 'liberal media' leave out), I'm reminded of the advice: "If someone you know is a jerk, they're a jerk. If everyone you know is a jerk, you're the jerk." There are many many media sources, ranging from far right (nationalreview, wnd, Drudgereport, etc.) To left (alternet, dailyKOS, huffpo...). In between you have bigger things like Fox on the right and MSNBC on the left, but if you put all of the solid non-fox sources like economist, NY times, washingtonpost, financial times, csmonitor, etc. in the 'liberal' camp, then I think you're the one with the poorly Calibrated compass. If you're talking about just TV news, it's mostly sensationalized [censored] regardless of what station you're watching. Most of the seem more interested in entertaining than in providing anything resembling thoughtful, reasoned analysis regardless of what political party you prefer. I don't see CNN as liberal so much as just bad.

Oh for pity's sake. It's places like Fox News which engender and foment the mistrust and lack of collegiality between the Republicans and the Democrats, in Congress and at the state levels. Listening to Fox News just helps this antagonism grow. Why, oh why must everyone argue so much! Finding common ground would be so much more sophisticated and proper -- but the radical Right has taken over, it seems. It's not a sign of weakness to negotiate! And to come to a consensus on items of disagreement. But some don't seem to get it.

Officer Jared Warner, told The Deseret News newspaper, "We're not exactly sure where that voice came from," Police believe that the girl, Lily Groesbeck, was strapped upside-down in her car seat for 14 hours in the Spanish Fork River, about 50 miles outside Salt Lake City. SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police responding to a report from a fisherman about an overturned car in an icy Utah river were stunned to discover an 18-month-old girl dangling in a car seat inside, unconscious but alive. They found the baby in the back seat and a woman dead in the front seat after flipping over the car. A firefighter jumped into the river and cut the car-seat straps, freeing the baby who was wearing only a flannel onesie and no hat or gloves. Officers then formed a line in the river and handed the cold child from one person to the next until she was on the shoreline and in emergency workers' arms. Two days later, the toddler was recovering at a hospital, though authorities still don't know exactly how she survived hanging upside-down for nearly 14 hours in frigid temperatures with no food or water. "It's heartbreaking. Was she crying most the night?" Spanish Fork Police Officer Tyler Beddoes said. "It's a miracle. ... She was needed for sure elsewhere." Beddoes, one of the officers involved in the rescue, on Monday recounted the ordeal. Police believe the crash occurred late Friday when the child's mother, 25-year-old Lynn Groesbeck, struck a cement barrier on a bridge and careened into the river in Spanish Fork, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City. Groesbeck had visited her parents in Salem and was about halfway back to her home in Springville when it happened, Spanish Fork police Lt. Matt Johnson said. Investigators don't know what caused the crash, he said. There were no skid marks, and the midsize car had no signs of mechanical failures. Police don't suspect drugs or alcohol as a factor but were awaiting toxicology results. Groesbeck might have been tired or distracted, Johnson said, adding that authorities weren't ruling anything out. Even though the road that goes over the bridge gets plenty of traffic, no one saw the wreck because the cement barrier obstructed the view below, Johnson said. If a fisherman hadn't chosen that river Saturday morning, it could have been several more hours before the car was found, he said. The overturned car was perched on the bank and rocks. As the girl dangled inside, icy water rushed just below her head through broken car windows. The temperatures were near freezing throughout the night and through the morning. "She must have been just out of the water enough to be getting oxygen," Beddoes said. When the four officers responded to the vehicle, they didn't know how long it had been there or who was inside. After freeing the girl from the car, responders rushed her to an ambulance and performed CPR, Beddoes said. On Monday, Lily Groesbeck was in stable condition and improving, according to hospital officials. Beddoes said the girl was opening her eyes and doing well. Lynn Groesbeck was enrolled at Provo College with a goal of becoming a medical assistant, her sister Jill Sanderson told the Deseret News. Beddoes said the family has thanked him and the other officers for helping save Lily. "Knowing that she was trapped in there 14 hours, the cold water running through car, just blows me away," Beddoes said.

If you never step out of a church, you'll only find yourself surrounded by generally like-minded individuals. In order to spread the gospel, folks need to be willing to take a walk beyond the borders of the church - into the "wilderness" where the general populace lives. That means to live among them (as Jesus did), to talk to them (as Jesus did), to eat with them (as Jesus did), and to be their friend (as Jesus did). Since this thread involves the SDA denomination, I'll be more blunt: Too many members of the SDA faith have built barriers, usually unwittingly, in reaching non-Christians or those of other faiths. Such barriers can include the view that whoever doesn't believe "our way" is somehow inferior, "dirty," "untouchable," or "lost".... those views, while generally not overtly spoken, are very apparent to others. Such mindsets have a tendency to push people away from Christ, rather than bring them closer. Such views also involve comparing one's own spiritual life to someone else's.... and finding someone else's is "lacking"... Much better to focus on individuals as "God's children"... show them you care. Be a friend. Find commonalities rather than differences. Be someone who shines a light, rather than someone who goes about with a moral candle-snuffer...

Sure, kids and people in general die more often from other things, and parents can and do make certain decisions when it comes to a wide variety of risks that they can handle with their kids. My friend is a cop, and he has an entire arsenal laying around his house that he doesn't lock up, and he trains his kids to respect the guns. But it's his kids. It's not an issue of taking a child away from someone. It's an issue of what parent and the agency prefer when it comes to the ideal home to raise a child in. If you need a gun, it generally sends certain signal as to what your expectations are from your neighborhood or your future. I think it's more than about a casualty statistics, but about what you are signaling about the world around you.

I applaud the church for stating, in the 1st article, that the case does not represent a real threat that clergy would be required to perform homosexual weddings. In my opinion, that issue is simply a "red Herring" that has no reasonable basis in either case or statute law. In that 1st article, the church has laid out other concerns as to how their "religious liberty" may be affected by potential rulings of the Court. I agree with the article that such may be the result in some cases, perhaps not all. While I therefore have some agreement, I have some thinking that some of the issues may not actually religious rights that are protected by the Constitution and I have questions as to whether or not they should be so protected. I believe that the 2nd article is of value in its statement as to why the Church had not taken a legal position on some aspects of the issue. Read. They are of value.

I don't believe salvation is based on acknowledging a set of doctrines nor is it found in our ability to understand the eternal nature of God. Salvation is recognizing our need for a Savior and then believing and accepting Jesus as that Savior. John 5:39-40 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.
