    Rebuke for Crying Child in a Diner Starts a Parenting Debate

    The restaurant owner was not in anyway responsible for the behavior of an out of control child,whether she likes children or not. The child was only doing what the parents allow. There is absolutely no excuse for anyone to think that their child should be allowed to disrupt everyone else. If the child is sick or in pain she should be at home.

  2. I cannot imagine allowing a child to cry/scream for approx. an hour under any circumstances. In a public restaurant is beyond belief. Take the child outside, do some, anything. It can't be healthy for the child or parent

    Rebuke for Crying Child in a Diner Starts a Parenting Debate

    I would probably be more likely to go there. Yeah, it was over the top in the way she spoke to the situation, but the parents were way over the top in subjecting everyone else in the restaurant to this child's temper tantrum or whatever it was screaming about. But at least the proprietor FINALLY did something about it. I get really tired of merchants of any type who simply let members of the public be inconvenienced other by rude patrons. So, in my book, the restaurant proprietor was no more guilty of bad behavior than the parents were. Almost an hour the patrons of this restaurant were tormented by this child?! Really?! Airpanes were mentioned before. There is a different situation. And it would be good if parents would study up on children in airplanes before flying with them. Adults and children of an older age know how the deal with pressure changes in the cabin. Babies don't and their ears can get very uncomfortable with the pressure changes on their ears. I believe the cabin pressure is equivalent to about 11,000 feet above sea level. That is huge to a baby's ears. Of course, I am also surprised that cabin crews are not more knowledgeable in helping parents in this regard also.

    Rebuke for Crying Child in a Diner Starts a Parenting Debate

    Personally I would not allow any of my children to cry uncontrolably for over an hour in a diner, I would take the child out and offer comfort to resolve the problem, if it could not be resolved I would leave and go home or somewhere else. I have been on a plane with a child crying the whole trip and it did not worry me as I am well aware that the parents had no other choice and did the best that they could. Two very different situations though if what is being reported here is factual.

    Rebuke for Crying Child in a Diner Starts a Parenting Debate

    I don't feel that shouting "This needs to stop!" is rage, ridicule, or amplified profanity. If the out-of-control child is wailing, a soft-spoken "Please, little child, stop crying" is not even going to be heard. As a patron of the restaurant, I might have said something to the parents to the effect of, "Will you PLEASE do something about that child's crying??!! Or I would have left the restaurant, and the restaurant owner would have been out income from money lost....due to the child's behavior. At some point, acknowledgement needs to be made that one's behavior, be it that of a child or that of an adult, *does* affect others who are also customers at a business. Even at two years old, a child can know what is acceptable behavior and what is not, if the parents properly trained her...

    This is a MUST READ for a couple of friends on mine...

    "You carry matters to extremes and do harm to your own soul and to the truth. YOU MAKE THE TRUTH REPULSIVE AND CAUSE SOULS TO BE AFRAID OF IT. Let love soften your words and give tone to your actions, and you will find a change in those with whom you associate. There will be peace, union, and harmony, instead of strife, jealousy, and discord. Let love and tenderness be exercised, . . . and you will receive a blessing." {2T 439.1}

    Important Books

    Philip Wesley Comfort. THE ORIGIN OF THE BIBLE, Tyndale House, 1992 & 2003, 352 pages. This book, I consider to be one of the most important books that one can study about the background of the Bible. It was written by some 13 different people. Included among the authors are F. F. Bruce, Carl F. H. Henry, J. L. Packer and others. It is divided into five (5) sections: The Authority & Inspiration of the Bible The Canon of the Bible The Bible as a Literary Text Bible Texts & Manuscripts Bible Translation. Each section has several authors. It can be purchased today for about $13 and as a Kindle edition for$10. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about the background of the Bible. It is written in a manner that it is of value to people who are not highly trained scholars.

    So for those parents that don't pray they can expect an out of control child.? The child is out of control because of the parents lack in discipline and controlling their child. If the child was acquainted with the word No and that is what it meant the problem would have been resolved rather quickly. We had a toddler in our church some years ago when my children were small. He was a tyrant .He was so disruptive that it made church service difficult for all. You did not want him sitting behind you as you might find yourself getting whacked with the hymnal. Mom and dad repeatedly said "now please stop that isn't nice". Guess what he didn't care because he didn't have to. The parents had been spoken to privately and nothing changed,he was just a high spirited toddler. We got a new pastor,after a couple of services the pastor stopped the service and just stood there. He told the parents if they would kindly take the child to the children's room he would continue with the service. That was the end of any problem with this child. Suddenly the parents,embarrassed enough took control of the little angel and he could behave. Children should not be allowed to control the adults,regardless if the parents believe in prayer or not

    What U.S. Same-Sex Ruling Means for Adventists

    Our hospitals receive government money, at least in payments for clinical services. As such, they can not discriminate in their whom they hire. We do not have enough qualified people to fully staff our hospitals who are SDA members.

    Ty Gibson on Women's Ordination

    I disagree with the statement that I have quoted below. No Christian denomination is 100% wrong in everything. No Christian denomination is 100%, fully correct in everything. The Roman Catholic Church is correct on some issues that Adventists hold. We may not be in total agreement as to what issues the RC Church is correct. But, any informed person would say that the RC Church and the SDA Church do hold common agreement on some issues. Therefore, it cannot be correct to say that a statement that a SDA ministers holds a position held by the RC Church is to suggest that the SDA minister is on the verge of apostasy.

    5 Questions About “Once Saved, Always Saved”

    How many times did Christ die on the cross? (1) What was the purpose of that death? (salvation for all) What is the only qualification for eternal life.......John 3:16? (belief) Conservative roots have kept many people from embracing the truth that they are saved, always. Conservatism wants to add all of the 'what if's'. Our 'works' emphasis of the past has stunted a faster growth in acceptance of salvation by the death of Christ. The seed of 'doubt' was planted in the Garden by Lucifer that God can't be trusted at His word. When we are out on the ocean, we stay safe when we are inside the boat. We are unsafe when we slip, fall or jump out. The boat is still there, we only have to climb back in to be safe again. More time has been spent on making people less sure of their salvation than on reassurance. What a shame.

    Is Islam in the Book of Revelation 9 as Explained below?

    Which is more important to us, The seal of God, or the mark of the beast? Have you noticed that the Bbile calls the Ten Commandments the Covenant? Hebrew scholars tell us that the language of the Commandments are the language of a covenant and not a prohiition. In the middle of this covenant you have the expression "Remeber" That is part of the covenant. Within this covenant with our Creator we serve no other gods, we worship on no other day, we do not steal or speak an untruth. So in this covenant you keep the seventh-day Sabbath and no other day, neither the first nor the sixth day of the week. Legalism will deministh the importance of the this covenant by making it merely a set of "Thou shalt nots" in order to gain salvation. When our friends, Lea and Gudmundur Olafsson, dropped by a coupe of days ago this was the gist of our conversation. Before they left Lea reminded us that it was when Gudmundur was my student back in 1954-5 and I wrote some words in Greek and Hebrew on the blackboard, that he hearc a voice from behind telliing him that this was to be his special study, so he went far ahead and became a teacher of Old Testament at Newbold College and at Pacific Union College. We had gone through this before and it is a blessing each time we renew this covenant idea.

    An Embarrassing Week for Christians Sharing Fake News

    These days, even though not all news is false, almost no news is totally true. I believe it is censored and dumbed down by the powers that be; and the "real" stories are supressed in favor of reporting the world's reaction to Caitlyn Jenner and the Blake/Miranda divorce. Plus, bad news is reported in favor of good news. "If it bleeds, it leads". Even the "real" news that gets reported always has a political "twist" to it. Surf back and forth between CNN and Fox; and you'll see what I mean.

    Becoming a Christ Focused Church

    It seems "strange" that some of those societies who condemn the ordination of women declare The One Project to be a gate of perdition. That is one great reason why we need to dwell much more on Christ through Scripture than contemplating the thoughts of those sceptical independent ministries.

    Where's that darn stick...I lost it again. I need to use it more often...on myself. We might suspect that someday Bibles will piled up and burned, maybe with a few Christians thrown on top of the pile and some naked God-haters beating drums, chanting, and dancing around in a circle.

    Ty Gibson on Women's Ordination

    Just came across this EG White quote: "Sunday, August 27. Today we are to...speak to those who want to hear the words of truth. I have thought how profitable it would be to have minute men, laborers together with God, who would be instant in season and out of season. The Lord's work is not to stand on ceremony, with a precise time to be observed for every line of work. When a great and decisive work is to be done, God chooses men and women to do this work, and it will feel the loss if the talents of both are not combined." {17MR 218.1}

    Ty Gibson on Women's Ordination

    Ty's presentation is solid. Jesus said in Mat 18:18 " Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Was Jesus saying that man would set Heaven's standard by what man allowed on earth. But Abraham allowed multiple wives. Is that binding in Heaven? Christ answered that question "But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; and they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh" (Mar 10:6-8). Which is to say that man's standard from the beginning was that a man could marry a woman. But that is not Heaven's standard for Jesus also states: "For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven" (Mat_22:30). Clearly Jesus gave Heaven's standard which was not multiple wives and husbands or even having a husband or a wife. Thus Christ is not setting man's standard on earth as being binding in Heaven, but teaching that Heaven's standard is what should be binding on earth. But regarding marriage, not all living on earth could accept Heaven's standard at this time: "For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it" (Mat_19:12). Regarding WO, Heaven's standard is clear: "And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen" (Rev_1:6). "And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth" (Rev_5:10). The redeemed are not all male. Thus Heaven's standard is that men and women are Kings and Priests, but not all are willing to accept heaven's standard as the rule on earth. In the marriage relationship on earth, God has made allowance for hormonal activity; allowances that will not be necessary in Heaven. But in the matter of WO, God has given ample evidence in His word and the Spirit of Prophecy for us to understand His will. Thus it boils down to a matter of "rightly dividing the word of truth," which will be a salvation issue when all is said and done. How do you read Luke 12:47 "And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes"? Or Christ's prayer to God in Mat_6:10? "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

    Has Adventists' prophetic understanding lost it way?

    In Post #37, hch said "Knowing that President Obama will be ruling the earth-beast at the time when final events transpire" If memory serves me correctly this is not the first time such a thing has been declared about a president, particularly one not like others before him or different ideology from the one making such a bold claim of certain prophetic knowledge. As I recall, some Adventists felt certain that as the first Catholic president, JFK was a sure sign of the nearness of the end of all things. Yet he didn't bring about the time of trouble, Sunday laws or persecution of Sabbath keepers. He didn't even link arms with the Vatican as some thought would happen. And there have been others. In every generation there is someone who likewise points toward a current something or someone that is that agent of evil or handmaiden of the devil or one to kickstart the final events of earth's history. And then there are those that are so certain of it that they fail to prepare for life to continue and cash in their retirement savings, leave their crops in the fields to rot, etc. We know how well theta works.

    This is a MUST READ for a couple of friends on mine...

    Quote: I bolded the part that I'm gonna say something about. A number of years ago, there was this guy at work, that never said anything to anybody. People would say hi and he'd just ignore them. So I decided that no matter what, I would always say hi, or have a nice day, etc., etc. Well eventually he came around and than no one could shut him up. Oh well, I guess you can't win them all. The next step for me as a Christian is to adapt, which might be like the Levite that passed on the other side of the road, or one can just say "that's interesting", and if one can't say that without lying, I'm out of suggested options until I think about it for awhile. God saves! Jesus cares!
