I'm going to the One Project gathering in Boulder, CO this weekend. I'm really stoked! It's the closest thing to a "Camp Meeting" (i.e., a large gatheing of SDAs from all over) that I have attended in over 20 years. I'll get to meet at least one CA member in person there.

I spoke to some teachers from Myanmar (formerly Burma) yesterday who earn US$32 a month. Definitely made me appreciate what I have.

Liz, that was one of the parents complaining about the cost. I think there may have been a computer tablet somewhere in that cost...or maybe school uniforms. I do know some were complaining that they had to buy 18 glue stick tubes, and boxes of Kleenex and dry-erase markers. Sorry about the ticks. Mosquitoes are filling the starring pest role this summer for us. I've had to do a lot of yard maintenance and they've been awful (the ants have been playing a supporting role as well). Best thing I know of for ticks is to stay away from trees and tall grasses.

Do flea collars work on ticks? It seems like I've seen flea and tick spray for dogs. Of course, it's probably some poisonous insecticide.

$500 on school supplies?!?! Was that a teacher, or was that a parent sending their child to school? I'm about to start getting my school supplies for my 11th grader, we homeschool and I don't think I've ever spent $500 on a school year. Well maybe when I was teaching two in two different grades. Do you know what they were getting? That just seems like a lot to me. On another note, anyone else fighting ticks this year? We've always had them bad, but this year seems extreme, my poor dogs are miserable. Has anyone found that one thing that keeps them off? I'm all ears.

Scuba, I basically agree with bro love's assessment; but I wouldn't call you a hypocrite; just a legalist; or a Shepherd's Rod or RSDA guy. It's OK, with prayer, you can overcome!

I have heard it said that half the people on earth live on less than US$20/month. Many of the occupy people seem to forget, they are the 1%.

I would suggest that you review Bro. love's post from Monday at 2:05 PM. What I infer from your "list" is that you must be a card-carrying traditional historical SDA or you are following the beast. If you truly believe everything on that list is salvational for you, go for it! You must follow your own conscience. Where you become legalistic is where you pass judgement on others who don't believe as you do; and sound (at least to me) like those who don't agree with you somehow have an inferior theology. God deals with each of us differently. Sabbath observance for me is deeply intertwined with my relationship with Jesus; so for me to abandon the Sabbath for Sunday would be equivalent to following the beast. However, I can't put that burden or threat on anyone else. I know lots of Sunday keepers who IMO have a much deeper relationship with Jesus than I do.

I do NOT disagree with you on this one Jackson. Our "works" show our heart allegiance, to Jesus as our LORD (which means master). The primary "work" which Christians will display is "love" toward both brethren and enemies. I've known some very loving Sunday keepers, and some not-so-loving Sabbath keepers. Which ones do you think Jesus would rather have in His Kingdom? The Bereans were commended for "searching the Scriptures", so perhaps holding to "correct" doctrine, might result from the "good work" of "searching" - IF that searching is guided by the spirit of Christ. I just don't want to condemn anyone for holding to a doctrine which they honestly believe is truth. Correct doctrinal positions do NOT save. I'm NOT saying they aren't important. True doctrines reveal the true self-less character of God our Father, which makes it easier for folks to know Him, and then give their allegiance to Him.

Noah and his family were INSIDE the ark, and had been for 7days, when the flood came. What does that ark symbolize? Is it not a symbol of Jesus - our place of safety. The redeemed will be shut in with Jesus, when the wrath plagues are poured out. Yes the Israelites were in Egypt. And I believe I have SAID that the redeemed will be on this earth during the first six Trumpet plagues. The redeemed are "changed in a moment" at the Voice of the Archangel (Jesus), at the 7th Trumpet. The wrath plagues FOLLOW the 7th Trumpet.

The (?) means, i don't understand what you are talking about! Need further explanation. You were talking about 'exploiters' of peoples and I added one to your list. What are you ideas on that? Just what exactly are you trying to say? Don't assume what I or others are thinking or believe. Really your reply makes me laugh! It sound rather pious....don't you think!

Sometimes we tend to think the sign of a successful evangelism crusade is large numbers of baptisms. But what if even those who turn away from the Gospel and reject Jesus were for the purposes of the command to "go and teach" were also a success? Is not one of the purposes of spreading the Gospel message to give people the chance to make an informed decision on what they wish to do with their eternal lives, for or against?

If we as SDA's believe that we have been given the Three Angels Message to share with the world, is the message of the first angel not a message of Evangelism? I would continue with as many evangelistic efforts as we can physically handle. The youth pastor and several of the youth from our church in Australia went to the Philippines for a crusade and baptised well in excess of 200 people. More people wanted to be baptised and were physically prevented by others to do so. I know a lady who was born again at a Franklin Graham crusade held in the 1990's. I was a volunteer at that crusade and it was heavily criticised at the time for being a "waste of resources". Yet this lady who was a sole parent at the time with two small daughters now grown up all attend a Church of Christ fellowship that they were followed up by after the crusade. There were a number of people that went forward on the three nights, yet even if this lady and her daughters were the only ones that made a commitment I would still say it was totally worthwhile and something that the churches in my city need to have a look at doing again.
