Instructive Op-ed worth reading and taking to heart.
phkrause and one other reacted to Tom Wetmore for a topic
Kind of missed the point... Not liberal vs. conservative. Not about the substance of what is said. It is not about disagreeing. It is about how the message is conveyed. And it is about the underlying attitude and lack of civility and respect. The concern here is the coarsening of the culture of this forum by the antagonistic approach of some and the gravitation toward the titilation and shocking.2 points -

Ever heard of Jackfruit? It has a meaty texture. I use it to make a vegan tamale. Also, if you first freeze tofu it can have a very meaty texture--makes a good BBQ.1 point -

Trust and Common Sense
DreamWeaver reacted to Outta Here for a topic
I agree with Rudywoofs. But, I can see where in some cases it might be common sense not to do something, when on the other hand if we were to simply trust it may turn out okay. I think of the trust exercise where one is to fall backward into the arms of someone they trust, but common sense says no way, no how!1 point -
Transparency
Deaconess reacted to Gerr for a topic
In this week's SS lesson, it was brought out that Jesus was totally transparent about his being the Messiah with the woman at the well in Jn 4, but He was not very open about it with the Jews. The former was open to the truth, the latter would kill Him for the claim. In Esther's case, she initially concealed her nationality, not that she nor Jesus told a lie, but as Naomi said, they just did not lay all their cards out in the open. As Jesus said, "Be as wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."1 point -

Why are God's people so violent?
Naomi reacted to Gerr for a topic
It is simply wrong for anyone to claim that God's children are violent. NIV84 | 1 Jn 3:10 This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother. 14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Deception is the devil's main mo. What could make God look so bad than for Satan to pass off his own children as God's?1 point -

I DO WISH THEY would do to him, as they did to people in Biblical times, and that is to remove his name from all public records, and to be as if he had never been. That would destroy those who seek for fame and attention.1 point -

Is This the End of Christianity in the Middle East?
JoeMo reacted to Tom Wetmore for a topic
That would depend on why one is studying prophecy and whether it results in spiritual growth, and not just knowledge and riddle solving. I grew up with the traditional Adventist evangelism of Revelation Timelines and the parade of beasts. The emphasis always seemed an effort at predicting the time of the judgment which by the timeline seem to be saying there was no more future because the end was Already upon us and the judgment books were just about to close. It might just already be too late. I am more inclined now to see that as not really the message we should be focusing on from Revelation. Revelation was a scary book. It didn't seem to carry much of a message of Good News. it wasn't until I learned to read Revelation for its spiritual message and not so much to unravel the prophetic mysteries that I began to see it in an entirely different light. It is a very encouraging message of hope. No need to to worry about the parade of imposters. From beginning to end it is the revealing of Jesus, for who He really is. Keep the focus on the Lamb. Follow Him wherever He goes. Nothing to worry about. It's all good. The devil loses. God wins. And his people are safe. That isn't a waste of time.1 point -

The man of Romans 7
8thdaypriest reacted to pnattmbtc for a topic
If you look at the early part of Romans, we can see Paul discussing the theme of justification, and usually we think of human beings being set right when we think of this word. But it is clear Paul had more in mind than simply man's justification, as he says things like, "As the Scriptures say about him, "You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court." (NLT). Graham Maxwell had a nice way of putting this theme viz a viz Romans 3:21-29, but unfornately I can't remember it :(. His basic idea was that it is not *our* justification that Paul had chiefly in mind, but God's (and he had a nice argument to prove it, which is what I don't remember). A super-cool thing about the Gospel is that the same thing which justifies God, justified man (the cross).1 point -

I think our inability to do just this very thing has to do with the delay in Christ's coming. The importance of our being able to explain God's fairness (or "justice" or "righteousness" -- Romans 3) was well explained by 8thday.1 point -

Another test of Scuba's list would be "how many of his points correlate with the 28 fundamentals of the church as stated on Adventist.org?" I'm not talking about prevailing or regional SDA culture; I'm talking about the formal Fundies as adopted by the denomination. For example, Fundie #2 addresses the SDA position on the Trinity. Scuba's list includes the belief in trinity as defined by the RCC as a sign of beast-following. I have been both a Catholic and an SDA; and I see little if any difference between how the two define the Trinity. Does that mean that, according to Scuba's list, that the SDA church is following the beast?1 point -

Aubrey is right - many Asian and Italian dishes are vegetatian or vegan. I would add Mexican to the list as long as beans aren't flavored with lard. Beans are an excellent source of protien an fiber for vegans; although some people don't appreciate the auditory and aromatic entertainment they provide afterwards. Nuts are also an important part of a vegan diet. (Not peanuts - their not really nuts; they are a legume) We were completely vegan for about 10 years. I'd say the most important secret to veganism is variety in your diet. Another big thing is dark greens - spinach, kale, beet greens etc. A good rule of thumb is the greener it is the more nutritious it is. Another secret is to do it gradually. It takes time for your taste buds to adjust to liking all fruits and veggies; and losing your taste for meat.1 point -

I'm not completely vegan, but I've found Pinterest to be quite helpful my search for gluten-free, low oxalte, vegetarian recipes. They still require a lot of tweaking to avoid the 100 or so allergens my husband can't have, but thebinspiration is there. Our favorite dishes involve squashes--spaghetti, acorn and butternut. I enjoy lentil soup (a dish my husband can't have). When dining out, we love Indian and Chinese fare. If you'd like a recipe for the oat bran muffins I eat everyday, I'd be happy to share.1 point -
Is This the End of Christianity in the Middle East?
Naomi reacted to Tom Wetmore for a topic
IMHO, that would be poor utilization of the time we have left and missing the key message Revelation for the saints. Why spend so much time seeking out the imposter of the Lamb? Follow the Lamb... wherever He goes. Seek Him and you will find Him. We really need to spend our time on the Good News of the Lamb and stop wasting time on finding and understanding the never ending parade of beastly imposters and opposers of Christ.1 point -
