  1. I'm sorry, but boohoo that's life. No one said anything would be easy for any one. And quite honestly no one has an easy life--when one looks at someone else's life and wishes yours was so easy, once you really get to know that person one realizes that they either came from humble beginnings, have medical problems or have other issues that one wouldn't want to deal with. There is a saying that if you put all of your problems into a pile with everyone else's problems, you would happily take yours back. Just because one is tired of their own problems, doesn't give them the right to loot, steal and burn and create problems for other people. If there is going to be change, then practice civil disobedience, but first and foremost be civil, act like a thug and your message gets lost. But I'm also at a loss as to what "change" needs to happen. If one wants better opportunities then create them. No one just handed me a degree, or a house, or even a car. Tired of being shot by police? Then be compliant when they ask one to do something. Don't run at them or try and grab their gun. Tired of drugs and gangs in your neighborhood? Then work with the police to get them out, instead of making the police the enemy and then crying about the need for change. Look up "Victim Mentality"--I do believe that that is a lot of what is going on.

  2. Here was my first post on this thread which was a reply to Aubrey's post: "Does Monday's "A Day of Civil Disobedience and a National Call to Action" include a time for rioting and looting?" It was meant to be cynical, sarcastic, and humorous. And here was my first post in response to your comment: On ‎8‎/‎10‎/‎2015‎ ‎5‎:‎36‎:‎18‎, lazarus said: "others see a stupid kid committing suicide by cop." And those same individuals fundamentally misunderstand the issues that Michael Brown's death raised. Unfortunately more people and police will die until things change. Gerry: And what are the changes you or these people are looking for? As I see it, the issues raised by the M Brown incident is very simple - if/when confronted by law officers who are risking their lives to protect society, is it asking too much for a citizen to comply? If the officer is guilty of misdeed, then pursue it through the courts. That is far safer than confronting an armed person! The first sentence above was a sincere desire to know. If there is anything in it that means the opposite, then it's my bad. I still want to know. What does being a minority have to do with it? Because Blacks are a minority, and my tribe is even a smaller minority, but I see the USA as a cornucopia of opportunity. l can register and vote, so can you. I can marry any woman who will take me, so can you. I can go to school anywhere my grades and pocketbook/loans can take me, so can you. I can live and buy a house anywhere my checkbook can take me, so can you. I've had many traffic tickets in my life without any trouble with a cop because I respected their authority, so can you. This is no longer the era of the KKK, Gov. Wallace, or Bull Connor. This is no longer the South that I went through in the late 50's as a brown person not knowing which way to go when I saw the signs, "Whites Only" or "Blacks Only". This is not to say that our country does not have problems. On a personal level there will ALWAYS be people, employers, cops, etc. who do not like you or me because we look different, but as a matter of national policy, that is no longer the case. So I am personally at a loss as to what changes you or the protesters or the rioters and looters in Ferguson or wherever are looking for. If you don't want to answer, just say so, maybe somebody else will.

  3. It's the increasing lack of respect for law, order, and authority, and, the ever-increasing lack of respect for other people and their property that create confrontations with peace officers. These behaviors aren't limited to any one class of people in particular, either, but the media choses their own stories to play. Anyone who resists compliance with a law officer's orders might expect that things could rapidly escalate and not go well for them. If Michael Brown's dad had raised him to respect others and their property, we might have never heard of him. Maybe if his mama had found out he was trying to rob a store, came down, grabbed him by the ear, and marched him home to get a "licking" from his daddy, he never would have disrespected and attacked a police officer. Instead, his parents were impotent wimps who raised an out-of-control monster. Every one of the looters, shooters, and arsonists should have had parents who put the fear of God into them and made sure that they didn't lie, cheat, steal, or hurt anyone. Without parental discipline, they, too, are out of control monsters who care nothing for the people they are harming. Again, if young black men, or anyone else no matter what their skin color is, respect the laws of the land, respect officers of the law, and respect the property and lives of other people, there would be no more cops shooting suspects or suspects shooting cops. Now, if the news media covered the epidemic of blacks killing blacks 24/7 there might be marches and vigils and protests and legislation and education to eradicate the descent into murderous anarchy. Apparently, though, black lives should matter only to white cops, not to other gun-toting blacks whose black body count far, far surpasses that of white officers of the law. Black Lives Matter wouldn't exist if all blacks were responsible citizens, but when blacks attack the police and pay for it with their lives, the news media creates a circus and a victimhood. All Michael Brown and friends had to do was to stop walking down the middle of the road, per the officer's request, move to the side of the road, and he would still be alive. Maybe he would have paid a visit to the court for assaulting and robbing a shopkeeper, but that's nothing. He, alone, is responsible for escalating a minor event into a catastrophic one which he paid for dearly with his life. Maybe he didn't want to live, anymore. If I had a gun and someone was trying to get my gun and kill me, I would not hesitate to use that gun to defend myself.

  7. I'm beginning to repeat myself, but since you continue to refuse to answer what changes need to made to satisfy the protesters, rioters, and looters, I find it necessary to repeat the gains towards equality in this great country. I am not white, but I would venture to say that most other minorities share my views. Here are the "rights" that minorities fought for in the past. Citizenship - granted. The right to vote - done. Segregated schools, housing - gone. Anti-miscegenation laws - struck down. Overt discrimination - outlawed. Quotas have even been established in many cases to accommodate minorities. So what other changes do you want? "How have think we have arrived at this point in society?" All the things most people want have been achieved and open to all, what other changes do you still want? Do you want to look back to what it once was or dwell on the opportunities you now have?T "What would you say it is about black people that makes them act this way?" With all the honest efforts put forth to solve the problems and the tremendous progress made, I honestly am at a loss why they act this way. That is why I am asking the question, what further changes need to be made to satisfy the protesters, rioters, and looters. "If your perspective is accurate why do think people don't just do the things that you say they should do?" My perspective is that if I take advantage of all these opportunities, I'd be fine. Obviously, that is not working for the protesters, rioters, and looters. That is why I honestly want to know your perspective and that of the protesters, rioters, and looters. What changes should be made to make you and them successful? "What do you think the white Christ should do and say in response to this situation?" I don't know what the "white Christ" would do, but the Christ I know said, "Love your neighbor as yourself," "Do to others what you would have them do to you." And that I try to practice.

  8. Laz, I have a couple of thoughts on your above post. Based on what I read, see and hear from the media, much of the issue revolves around hopelessness. Not seeing much change in your community from the past and then reaching a boiling point when an issue arrives. Sometimes the response is not the most productive, but it takes place anyway. I would say some black communities may feel this way more than others because of the historical past of where they are. I doubt the average WASP can fully understand the issues involved because of our history of always coming out on top. As a culture we have not been repressed in the past or at any time. The old saying 'walk a mile in an others shoes'.......

Myron, I do NOT call myself a priest. I believe that all of those redeemed at the return of Christ WILL BECOME "priests of God and of Christ" - including me. Which is why I call myself "8thdaypriest" to bring attention to that prophecy. Priests could not begin to serve UNTIL "the 8th day" - which I believe will be the 8th millennium. You seem a very ardent EGW believer and defender. I do not fault you for that. I was the same for some 20 years. I used to quote her constantly. Now, I have grave doubts concerning her "inspiration" and would rather look to the Bible only for doctrine. I have the EGW complete published writings CDs. I searched them for four solid years looking for her statements on the nature of God (two Beings or three Beings). That is how I "discovered" her seeming change of belief and teaching, (from two divine Beings TO three divine Beings) some 50 years into her ministry. That "discovery" upset me so much, that I have not been able to regard her writings in the same way since. If you looked over my website, you may have noticed that I HAVE NOT disparaged Ellen White in any way, in anything published on that website. You have spoken most disrespectfully Myron. Protesters want the same things everyone else wants. The equal opportunity to get that vote in; the equal opportunity to go to those good schools; the equal opportunity to access those loans; the equal opportunity to live in those neighborhoods; the equal opportunity to simply cross a street. People everywhere want to be treated fairly and without prejudice. Many people have been able to rise above the poverty they were born in and have helped to make the world a better place. There are many exceptions, but the more common experience is oppression in poverty. Here's a story about an exceptional young man who is working to rise above the poverty he is was born in: Normandy Transfer Student Rides Bike 30 Miles After Missing Bus The tax dollars we pay go to help fund his education. An equal part goes to help fund my niece's education. She is able to ride a bus to the same school. But, because her parents can afford to live in the more affluent part of town, her bus comes much later in the morning. She has time to sleep in and then get a healthy breakfast. I could go on and on about the differences in the experiences both young people will have throughout the day. But what it comes down to is privilege. Often times privileged people wear blinders that they are not aware of. They see themselves as hard-working individuals who have earned their way through life. And in many cases, they are hard-working individuals who have earned their way! But their path was easy compared to the paths others face. For some, getting there is a hop on the bus. For others, it's a 5 hour bike ride. Uphill. Both ways.

GOLDEN CENSER I don't know what "references" would satisfy. Let me just refer you to the Temple Institute's webpage. They have done exhaustive research into every aspect of Temple service, and history. Their intention - of course, is to provide furniture and vestments when the Temple is restored on the Mount. Just recently created are two incense chalice of solid gold. Every article and piece of furniture within the two apartments of the Temple was made of gold, or overlaid with gold. Silver was used for the bowls and shovels used in the courtyard, with the Alter of Sacrifice. Incense was burned on the Alter of Incense in the first apartment, and on the Alter of Sacrifice in the courtyard. A "shovel" was used to move coals from the Alter of Sacrifice to the Alter of Incense. On the Day of Atonement, a golden shovel was used to move coals from the Alter of Incense, to a spot just in front of the Ark. Then incense was poured from the golden chalice into the priests hands, and from his hands onto the coals in the "shovel". It is very possible that the vessel held by the "angel" in Revelation 8, is the small chalice of incense. http://www.templeinstitute.org/vessels_gallery_10.htm http://www.templeinstitute.org/yom_kippur/incense_service.htm

Last night my husband and I stayed up a little late to see the Perseid meteor shower. I found an astronomy viewing site we'd never even knew existed. It was wonderful! There were two telescopes set up so we could see Saturn. It looked like a little like the CBS "eye" logo. Lots of families came out with their lawn chairs, blankets, flashlights and glow sticks. We only stayed until 11 p.m., but we got to see at least a dozen or so meteors. The audience was so excited with each one. The meteors left a trail of "oooooohs" and "aaaaaaahs". Though tonight's light show may be less impressive than last night's, I encourage anyone who's never seen a meteor shower to get outside and look to the northeast skies. (I don't know how to see it if you're not in North America.)

    Wrong Side of the Tracks

Rachel Epstein was working in the kitchen listening to her young son Little Moishe playing with his new electric train in the living room that his Bubbie and Zadie just bought him. Rachel heard the train stop and Little Moishe said, "All of you sons of guns who want off, get the heck off now, cause this is the last stop! And all of you sons of guns who are getting on, get your behinds in the train, 'cause we're going down the tracks." Rachel was shocked. "Moishe! We don't use that kind of language in this house. Now I want you to go to your room, and you are to stay there for TWO HOURS. When you come out, you may play with your train, but I want you to use nice language." Two hours later, Little Moishe came out of the bedroom and resumed playing with his train. Soon the train stopped and Rachel heard Little Moishe say, "All passengers who are disembarking from the train, please remember to take all of your belongings with you. We thank you for riding with us today and hope your trip was a pleasant one. We hope you will ride with us again soon." Rachel hears Little Moishe continue, "For those of you just boarding, we ask you to stow all of your hand luggage under your seat. Remember, there is no smoking on the train. We hope you will have a pleasant and relaxing journey with us today." As Rachel began to smile, Little Moishe added, "For those of you who are annoyed about the TWO-HOUR delay, please see the bossy lady in the kitchen."

    Sid Schwartz’s Final Instructions

Sid Schwartz is on his deathbed, knowing the end is near. He is with his nurse, his wife, his daughter, and two sons. "So," he says to them, "Bernie, I want you to take the Beverly Hills houses. "Sybil, you take the apartments over in Los Angeles Plaza. "Hymie, I want you to take the offices over in City Center. "Sarah, my dear wife, please take all the residential buildings downtown." The nurse is just blown away by all this, and as Sid slips away, she says, "Mrs. Schwartz, your husband must have been such a hard-working man to have accumulated all this property." Sarah replies, "Property? The schlemiel had a paper route!"

  17. I do? Why would I be asking you if I knew what the protesters/rioters/looters want? The right to vote? If you are of age, just go and register. The right to marry whomever? The anti-miscegenation laws have been done away with. The US Supreme Court has even struck down anti-same sex marriage laws. Segregation laws? Gone. Discriminatory housing rules? You can now go and live/buy a house wherever your pocketbook can take you. There is not a position in the USA that is not open to all Americans except for the presidency which is only open for the US-born. So what do the protesters/rioters/looters want? No only the right to protest but also to riot and loot?

To JoeMo Thanks for the boric acid idea. I looked into it further and you can use a very, very tiny amount in the garden before it will kill the plants, however, you can mix a larger amount with sugar and put it into containers with holes poked into the lids. The ants can get in, but the wildlife or pets won't be able to get at it because it is toxic to them. It takes a while, but the ants will carry it back and share the boric acid with the ant hill. I spilled some honey today so it is honey and boric acid. Thanks for the tip.

The gap is imaginary. If he does not know how long the gap is he does not know that there was one. It could have been 5 seconds. #1 Why do you feel he is ? "The government under which Jesus lived was corrupt and oppressive; on every hand were crying abuses—extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. Yet the Saviour attempted no civil reforms. He attacked no national abuses, nor condemned the national enemies. He did not interfere with the authority or administration of those in power. He who was our example kept aloof from earthly governments. Not because He was indifferent to the woes of men, but because the remedy did not lie in merely human and external measures. To be efficient, the cure must reach men individually, and must regenerate the heart. " {CCh 314.4} #2 He is frequently " substituting" Sunday worship for the Sabbath because he is traveling. "Substituting" means taking the place of. That ought to concern you. #3 Are you saying that whatever a person does on Sabbath is Sabbathkeeping ? Hosting fox news on Sabbath? book signing ? #4 Once again he is "substituting." Sunday keeping churches mix truth with a good deal of error. Your questions come from a "why not" or "why can't" position. One could use that approach to say " why cannot a person keep Sunday as the Sabbath ?" or " Where does the Bible say getting high on drugs is wrong"? #5 "Exactly, like you do" ? What worship service even comes close to teaching and preaching the Three Angel's Messages? If they talk about them at all it is about computer chips and the pre trib rapture. If we love the truth we do not go and court the error. God does not call for his church to join the ecumenical movement.

  22. I'm not sure what you are saying in this sentence. It's truthful that they are shot? "The thing about playing nice because you are a pastor ..... ::Nuff said. Stepping away from that topic, carefully!::" Again, I'm not sure what your point is. "It kind of reminds me of the song from the 70s, "You're so vain" by Carly Simon. Many are so vain, they think that the topic of racism is only about them and can't even see they are participating in the continued practices of racism." BW, Is this you talking? Who raises the subject of women and their abuse of men at every opportunity? Come on son, have some insight. Recently, you confirmed in another thread what I suspected. Something which is understandable. Your passion for men's rights comes from you own experience and struggle. To others it seems like a unfounded preoccupation but to you it is a painful reality. Can you see any parallels?

What do you like to do on the Sabbath?

I am more or less in the same camp as Joe on what I do on Sabbath. Since my job can easily consume me during the rest of the week, I like to do things that I simply do not have time to do during the week. Relax. No need to be in a hurry. Hanging out with friends, enjoying a good meal, not feeling rushed to get something done or be on a schedule. I think faithfulness to the commandment mostly means putting aside the work I do to make a living. From there, it is about doing things that are enjoyable, that bring joy and happiness to others and to the day. Playing with the kids when they were little. Riding bike, hiking, stopping to smell the roses. I don't see a need to stress over things I shouldn't do.

God will never give you anything you cannot handle?

I get that. Sometimes exercising faith can be messy and risky. Sometimes we think we hear God; but it is just our imagination. Sometimes we think we imagine things; but it's really God talking to us. I wish I had some consistent ways to know the difference!

What do you like to do on the Sabbath?

I like doing anything except what I do at my Mon. - Fri. job; as long as it's not a sin anyhow. I play my guitar and listen to Christian music a lot, sometimes go to the mountains or the zoo or a museum (I even pay to go - GASP! But I use a credit card; so technically I'm not really paying until the end of the month ). Sometimes, if my wife and I are alone, we might "rest" a while. Afterwards, a nap is nice. I cruise Club Adventist sometimes. I am good with anything that brings me close to family, friends, or God.

    Trust and Common Sense

I think sometimes we hold onto trust in desperation long after our common sense has told us to let go. We want to believe that others hold to the same values as we do... when many times they do not and we make excuses for poor behavior because having someone seems better than being left out and alone. Only our common sense trust is safe with God and he is the only one who will never fail us.
