Finding Work
Naomi and 3 others reacted to Jessie-Jess for a topic
Please pray for me, that the Lord will make His will clear for me very soon. I am no longer working my most recent job, and have less than two weeks to move from the place where I currently live. I have bills to pay (though one less bill this month, for which I am thankful to God), and no drivers' license or a vehicle even if I had one to drive. I do have some money in the bank, but if I have to travel far when I move, it may not stretch very far. I do plan to ask for help, when I know where I am going, if I will need the help. I hope to have an interview this or early next week, and have also been looking for work in other places, too. Please pray that the Lord will provide, and make His will very clear, and that He will strengthen me to trust in Him, and not to worry nor to panic. I believe my faith is being tested. Please pray that, by His grace, I pass. And also that if my worse fears are realized, He will sustain me and strengthen me, and supply my needs even in those places. And that, either way, He'll give me the courage that I need to get through. Of course, I am praying for these things, too. I trust Him and I know that He will provide something and do something in my life. I am hoping and trying to believe that, if it's His will, this interview will yield positive results. Right now, I'm in that period of not knowing, though. My brothers and sisters in Christ, please pray that I will know soon, that He will reveal it to me, and that He will be at work on the hearts of all those who He has chosen to help fulfill His will in my life. Thank you.4 points -

Finding Work

If you are still looking for a job and do not have a specific direction, you might want to consider taking care of an elderly woman in Florida, a state with a big aging middle class population. Often these positions come with a place to live, food and utilities paid for and maybe the use of a car if you get a license. Orlando is a good place to look because they have a low unemployment rate due to the huge tourist industry- it is the most visited tourist destination in the world. This also means there are other jobs in car rental places, restaurants, tourist attractions, office temps, and the hospitality industry although not all may be suitable for SDAs but at least the hospitality industry is mostly family centered here. It was MUCH easier for me to get a job here than other places I applied- I got 1 full time and 2 part time out of maybe 10 applications. Also you could maybe take nursing or other health program like health information technology at a community college such as Valencia there if you do not have a degree- Pell grants would pay for it in full, and some programs may be part time, at least for LPN training. You could look on Craigslist Orlando for caregiver companion positions but they may want you to be in the area to interview. Read them carefully for the occasional sleazeball but most are legitimate. Orlando also has a huge Adventist population- I attended Kress Memorial and visited Forest Lake and Apopka because I felt these churches were a good fit in terms of my moderately conservative perspective.2 points -

Are you a Vegetarian?
Sojourner and one other reacted to Outta Here for a topic
I don't think people need excuses to eat meat when it is healthier for them. Eating meat clearly isn't healthiest for everyone, but to say that vegetarianism is healthiest (or better) for everyone is a falsehood.2 points -
Are you a Vegetarian?
GayatfootofCross reacted to Deaconess for a topic
I grew up when liver was recommended for young girls for the iron content. Discomfortingly to me, my mother believed it. She, also, committed other culinary sins such as stewed tomatoes with soggy Saltines and canned spinach. So, I grew up eating meat, but not pork. I became vegetarian (my kids always have been vegetarian) and my family almost got to being vegans until we discovered celiac disease. Gluten is in so many things, I can't even begin to explain how much of our diet disappeared. We added back in dairy and eggs so that we could have more options for nutrients. I will cook meat for those that do request it, I just don't taste it, so its like playing roulette with their taste buds, but that isn't my problem... its theirs!1 point -

I pray that God will give you this day your daily bread Father, You certainly know the needs of all of us and especially Your daughter here as she turns to You in her moment of uncertainty. I pray for Your care for her, that her trust in You may be strengthened as exercised. May she not suffer is my prayer in Jesus' name- amen1 point -

Hi Gay, I certainly hope and pray that your Elderly friend can get past his offense with the denomination and reinforce his relationship with God. I also pray that God give both of you peace in this matter. If some SDA's are to "good" to have your friend in fellowship, he should feel free to go elsewhere. Those in your church that have chased your friend away will have to answer to God. Relationship and fellowship with God and His Son is much more important than relationship to a denomination.1 point -

It is appointed to man once to die, and after that the judgement. Those who are resurrected in the Second Resurrection will have chosen against the Lord and will not unfortunately have another chance to accept the truth.1 point -

I have not said to the seed of Israel, seek ye me in vain, Seek and you will find, ask and it will be given, knock and it will be opened. Look unto me and be ye saved all ends of the earth. Trust int he Lord with all of your heart and lean not unto your own understanding, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and he will direct your paths. He is faithful who has promised. God Bless you Jessie in this time of test and trial.1 point -

A Time to Marginalize by Bill Knott
debbym reacted to Tom Wetmore for a topic
I am confident that Bill was not picking sides in that debate as an objective of this article. Perhaps your discomfort with the editorial is that you think he was and was only targeting your POV. Either side of that debate or any divisive element in the Church needs to take a lesson here. I do think that we are in an era where fringe elements so easily have a platform and voice that greatly exaggerates their standing in the community. The impression is given because they are loud or produce much media material that is spread far and wide on the internet that they represent a far greater number and have far greater importance and validity than they really deserve. The bullies need to be called out.1 point -

The woman caught in adultery is a very important story/example. Why is it that a very crucial ending to that story is always left out? What do you suppose the reaction to this story would be if it ended with the woman telling Jesus it was only a cultural thing? It would take biblical scholars to determine if she was actually sinning, regardless of what Jesus/scripture said. Or one of my favorites ,God meets us where we are at,which of course seems to stop there. Or we can keep our pet sins that are just to difficult to give up until Jesus returns and then all will be better. The bible is quite clear whether it is adultery, stealing, lying,or homosexual behavior what our final out come will be. It is up to Him to do the judging. It is not up to me to whack anyone upside the head with the bible when I encounter any of the mentioned. On the flip side of that it is not up to anyone to judge me or anyone else that believes what the bible says on the subject instead of believing it is simply cultural. I am not obligated to accept the constant criticism of biblical instruction to prove I am a christian and am not condemning someone else to hell. Nor do I believe that I need to gloss over what the bible says when confronted by those that continually deny what is clearly written. If that is the way someone chooses to live their life, their business, If they do not want a response or feel judged by those that do believe the bible means what is written, then quite hammering on the subject until you pound others into agreement or silence. You can't have it both ways They nuetralize love, they short circuit the very Spirit of mercy, and graciousness, and kindness is applicable to those that use every opportunity to push a certain agenda, trying to make all those that disagree less than they are. Whatever pet sin someone is dealing with, not my business to take care of it. Just don't demand the christians that disagree with you either be silent or prove they are christians by agreeing Constant criticism by those that choose to believe the bible is not entirely accurate towards those that do believe it to be accurate is applicable1 point -

Gospel to the "whole" world?
Lauralea reacted to Sojourner for a topic
In Australia Christian organizations broadcast the gospel into Indonesia via short wave radio set ups so people can tune in and listen and they can submit their details for Bible correspondance courses if they wish. This is one way to get the message across. As for this specific group it is likely the gospel will only reach there by Christians that are martyred for it. Yet it is also true that if they refuse it then the missionaries can move on also.1 point
