Ben Carson "Not an Authentic Adventist"

I really dislike "blank is not a true Adventist" entrance into heaven is not a written exam. I remember a publishing leader proclaim that another leader "Did not believe in the spirt of Prophecy (meaning EGW)" because they disagreed on what she meant by a certain phrase. We are NOT to be cookie cutter Christians or Adventists. There are some core and common believes we hold to be true. But people can be a fellow adventist and not agree with me on them. We all need to be convinced in our minds of what is Biblical True. AND we are need to journey together and support one another in these teachings. Few of those pioneers who started this work, who responded to the calling, would be allowed to be members today.

    Sub-Ordinate

This appears to me to be related to the argument from the article from the Council for Biblical Manhood and Womanhood ("CBMW") that male authority and female subordination are mere "functional" differences. My commenter is saying that there is nothing inherently superior about being in authority, nor anything inherently inferior about being in submission to authority. In terms of "functional" differences, she is of course, quite right. Despite her reference to my "prideful reaction to authority," it really is not authority in and of itself that I am reacting against. What I object to is the idea that one group has a divine right to have authority over another group, based on nothing other than their identity from birth as part of the authority-holding group. To put it in the simplest terms, it makes a difference who is in submission to whom if the nature of man is to be in authority over woman, and the nature of woman is to be under the authority of man-- because submitting to authority is not equal to being in authority, and I believe this is self-evident. To be the one who acts and commands (authority) is not equal to being the one who is acted upon and commanded. That's why the one under authority is called a "subordinate." The very word means "under." You can be equal and still in a position of submission to authority if the submission is part of the position, not part of who you are. But if these unequal things then become part of our very natures as men or women, then men and women not equal. I'm not against authority; I'm against being made unequal when the Scriptures say I'm equal. http://krwordgazer.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/why-protesting-equal-but-subordinate-is.html Sub-Ordinate adjective 1. placed in or belonging to a lower order or rank. 2. of less importance; secondary. 3. subject to or under the authority of a superior. 4. subservient or inferior. 5. subject; dependent. 6. 4. Ben Carson Responds: Avoiding Trump's 'Mud Pit' "I don't get into the mud pit," Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "I do have a tendency to be relaxed. I wasn't always like that. There was a time when I was, you know, very volatile." one of the saddest stories from the Umpqua massacre

I keep wondering if the Adventist church members down there in the Roseburg and Myrtle Creek areas knew anything about Sarena Moore's life, or have reached out to her son and her fiancé. Or if, since neither are SDA, nobody has gone to visit, or offered to help. I have a feeling that yesterday's article will catch most of the church members unawares of this woman's family and her circumstances. It certainly makes the Adventist Review's story seem very... well... almost trivial. http://www.adventistreview.org/church-news/story3319-adventist-mother-among-those-slain-in-u.s.-college-shooting And I have an even worse feeling that Sarena will become a mere "1 death" in the SDA membership statistics. And no one will remember her, or her life, or her family -- because she wasn't an "important" church figure. (And sadly, that's how most of us will be "remembered" by the church.) I wish the Oregonian's newspaper article would be shared in the church's papers.... in the NPUC Gleaner, and in the AR. But I know it won't be.

  11. The interview was quite interesting. Thank you Phkrause for this post. While I am still not committed to any specific candidate, I do believe that Dr Ben displayed the same degree of class this morning as has been his personality through the years. Its good to observe that his character, under fire & on display, has not changed. His statement: "I refuse to get into the mud pit," Carson said Sunday on Fox. "The Republicans were there trying to destroy each other. I think that was a huge mistake in the last cycle. And I'm certainly not going to get into that no matter what anybody says." reflects the classic, calm dignity that has for many years been his personal demeanor.

Our friend in the op has misrepresented the position of the SDA Church and what it means to be an authentic Adventist.

Ellen G. White encouraged SDAs to take an active part in the Temperance movement, joining with other religious groups in the effort. She even said we should vote on the Sabbath over the issue, if we had to.

It'll be interesting when the Desmond Doss movie 'Hacksaw Ridge' (which owes much to our own Stan Jensen) comes out. It's about the non-violence that used to be mainstream SDA policy. I'm not so sure it is, any more.

Ben Carson "Not an Authentic Adventist"

Have no clue what at 'Authentic Adventist' is. So....me thinks all of this hullabaloo is perhaps focusing on the wrong ideas. As Rudy said, its more about your own preferences. Could care less about the which party or professed belief system, but rather do they practice what they 'preach'.......that doesn't happen too often, with many of us either.

Yes Bravus! I wish you well. I agree! I find the GOP Platform Repugnant..at least on many fronts. To see someone like Ben Carson on the National stage espousing Non Jesus approaches is hard to take..He is representing my Church and this awful post modern Christian Exclusive culture. But not representing my God that I see in JESUS..... That is what so troubling in all this to me. I have liked this guy for years and respected and even shared his Testimony with great pride and Joy..had no idea this is what he was going to shoot for. And esp. in this manner. I did see him be more vocal ...looking back! hmmmm... can't remember what about!

Ben Carson "Not an Authentic Adventist"

Many times people do not listen to (or read) the entire dialogues of the political candidates, and rely only on the media "spin" that gets reported. That happens with candidates for any of the parties. Before I delete a candidate as a possible one I might vote for, I try to get answers from each, to the most salient questions I have. Then I start pruning the political tree, and try to get rid of the nuts.

Ben Carson "Not an Authentic Adventist"

I think Dr Carson has been at some pains to portray himself as a mainstream Christian more than a Seventh-day Adventist in the media, having said multiple times that he attends church on Sunday as well as Saturday. From my own perspective, broadening is not a bad thing... If I have concerns it is not because he is or isn't SDA, it's specific policy positions he has publicly espoused.
