Why have we allowed strange music and noise and dancing in our worship?
Sojourner and 3 others reacted to rudywoofs (Pam) for a topic
even the old hymns can sometimes be inappropriate in church... Consider: A preacher was winding up his temperance sermon with great fervor: "If I had all the beer in the world, I'd take it and throw it into the river." And the congregation cried, "Amen!" "And if I had all the wine in the world, I'd take it and throw it in the river." And the congregation cried, "Amen!" "And if I had all the whiskey and demon rum in the world, I'd take it all and throw it in the river." And the congregation cried, "Hallelujah!" The preacher sat down. The song leader stood up very tentatively and announced: "For our closing song, let us sing hymn #365, 'Shall We Gather at the River.'"4 points -

The truth matters. The claim that Obama wrote what was quoted is false. Check this site: https://www.truthorfiction.com/obama-books/ The relevant section: “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.”-Fiction! This is a corruption of a quote from Obama’s book The Audacity of Hope. It is from a section that talks about the concerns of immigrants who are American citizens. Here is the accurate and more complete quote: “Of course, not all my conversations in immigrant communities follow this easy pattern. In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging. They have been reminded that the history of immigration in this country has a dark underbelly; they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” The president of a country says that he will stand with the citizens of that country if they are threatened by bigoted elements within that country. That is exactly what a president should do! Would you prefer a president who says "If you as citizens become unpopular, you're on your own"?!2 points -

What do you mean about the air strikes? What are you talking about? How many air strikes against ISIS do you think the US has conducted? What do you think the solution is? Do you think we should put boots on the ground to fight against ISIS? If so, how many? And how long are you willing to commit, and pay for that extensive of an involvement? It really is really a ill thought out pile of political rhetoric to call for boots on the ground and greater military effort against ISIS for a Party that also refuses to generate any revenue, and in fact that seriously tries to cut revenue to pay for it. Did we learn nothing from the Bush era of borrowing trillions to pay for two wars and continuing to cut taxes so that we cannot even pay for the borrowing?2 points -

The 1000 years when the saints will reign with Christ as priests and kings - is NOT A PROPHECY??? Really??? A prophecy predicts something - which is FUTURE. The FUTURE 1000 years, seem to fit the definition of a prophecy. You seem to be saying that it's NOT a "day for year" prophecy. But what would exempt it??? Personally - I believe that Sanctuary Times, and Sanctuary symbolism, hold the KEY to understanding future prophecies. The ENTIRE Sanctuary - including every ceremony performed there, WAS given as a prophecy. I look at the things to be accomplished at the END of the 70 "sevens", and see Day of Atonement (NOT just His death at Calvary). "finish the transgression" - "make an end of sins" - "make reconciliation for iniquity" - "bring in everlasting righteousness" - "anoint the most Holy" (Dan 9:24 KJV). WHEN were sins finally GONE (transferred to the head of the scapegoat, and banished to the uninhabited place)? Answer: Day of Atonement. WHEN did the LORD "make reconciliation" for Israel? Answer: Day of Atonement. WHEN did the High Priest "anoint the Most Holy" Place? Answer: Day of Atonement. The YEARLY cycle of "appointed times" was a PROPHECY of the work that Christ would do for humanity - first as the "Lamb of God", and then as our High Priest. The SAME is true of the 70 Weeks PROPHECY. Rachel Cory, prophecyviewpoint.com1 point -

That is a disingenuous interpretation of the statement. That is like the suggestion that support for Irish Catholics is support for the IRA.1 point -

Conversely, in some churches it is believed that low volume, low energy, low interest is quality. It is clearly not. God likes loud too!! Sometimes there's a temptation to make our preferences God's preferences.1 point -

The lower the quality, the louder they make it to compensate. I often reflect on the style Jesus may have used for the Sermon on the Mount..1 point -

Wickedness and other gods

I also think that Phkrause may be on to the answer. As we study Jeremiah it is good to also keep in mind the books of Deuteronomy - Kings. Jeremiah and Lamentations are sort of his "Testimonies to the church" with, at least Joshua- 2 kings (If not Deuteronomy - 2 kings) his conflict of the ages series. There appears to be a worshiping of Yahwheh, but a feeling of not fully trusting this God of Milk and Honey and wanting to secretly try to appeal to the gods of honey for blessings and gods of milk to leave them alone.1 point -

we are all born in iniquity so that is our baseline default. but when we choose and cultivate idolatry of any form we deepen in our selfishness. so at some point if we fail to maintain our connection with God, ultimately we will do the bidding of the enemy of God housed in our own fallen nature.1 point -

Interesting question Gail! Probably a little of both. I'd say first they followed other Gods and than the progression would be that they started following even more because they had become wicked!1 point -
