Sabbath is one of the greatest blessings that God has ever given. The older I get, the more I appreciate it. That being said; when I talk to Sunday-Keppers about the Sabbath, I don't try to make it an "I'm right and you're wrong" conversation, or a threat that they will go to hell if they don't worship on Saturday. I simply mention the commandment and witness to the blessing that the Sabbath has brought me. Then it's up to the HS to bring them any convicion on the matter. My job is to plant a seed; it is the job of the HS to make it grow.

A new perspective on Genesis 1

Hi Pnatt Yes this is a hybrid of young earth and old earth, taking good science and rejecting bad science, as well as getting science and theology to talk to each other to tell one story. I do believe that Ps 104:30 tells us that Genesis chapter 1 is a renewing of earth after a mass extinction. Good science tells us that earth had many more past extinctions. The Bible speaks of a few mass extinctions such as Noah's flood and the 2nd Coming. So mass extinctions are a part of earth's history and future. Good science tells us that after each ancient mass extinction event, completely new biomes appeared suddenly. Science does not really have an answer for this. But Genesis gave us the answer. God creates the new biome after each extinction event. I believe that in earth's ancient past e.g. the era of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, food chains existed just as the do today. Nothing has changed. God is the same today as back then. God is good today, and God has always been good. The seas teemed with fish on the 5th day. Fish eat other fish. Folks have misunderstood Paul to say that NO death was in the world before Adam's sin. As you mentioned, bacteria digest rotting food and get eaten by microscopic animals like paramecium, which in turn get eaten by earthworms which in turn get eaten by moles etc. since creation. Paul wrote, "the wages of sin is death" (Rom 6:23) which is similar to the OT idea of Ezekiel 18:20 "The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father,.." What if I said that these writers were not commentating on food chains, but rather on what happens when one sins? Neither writer was thinking biology when he wrote this. He was thinking human condition. But then it became a doctrine that no death can occur without sin - which is not the idea either writer was trying to convey. Let's have our cake and eat it too. Let science tell us all it can. And let theology tell us all it can too. Let's take the best of both and form a synthesis where both agree rather than insisting that either have all the answers. There are some things science cannot answer. And there are some things which the Bible has no interest in addressing, such as ancient history of the earth. But together both tell one unified story. Evolution is obviously an example of bad science. But it need not give all science a bad name. Palaeontology has been totally tainted by evolution, so one has to sift through the science. Cosmology has not been tainted by evolution. It is an honest and scientific attempt to put all the clues together. It has no axe to grind. The layers of earth tell a story of ancient animals which lived, ate each other, and died long before Adam. This was no different than we see today. The movie Jurassic Park probably is scientifically accurate. Visit Africa today and see animals eating each other, just on a smaller scale. Animals were eating each other from day one after creation. Only on earth there was a land called Eden. And on the East of that land was a [small] garden where Adam and eve were placed. Like your back garden, nothing dangerous existed there. Like your garden, no thorns grew there. This was a small island of paradise where Adam and Eve lived till they were thrown out into the rest of the dog-eat-dog earth with its thorns and dangerous animals.

The Sabbath is much more than worship. Those who do not understand this have missed much of the blessing of the Sabbath. We can worship on any day of the week/year. But, if we fail to keep the Sabbath, we will have missed a great blessing.

I think that one of the keys to understanding the Kingdom is the Temple/Sanctuary system. The Sanctuary system shows us what the Kingdom is like, a place where the sacrifices, feasts, and the laws of the LORD are observed without making excuses. When the LORD is present in the Most Holy Place, he will speak to us and tell us what to do. Most religions of today bypass this earthly demonstration of the Kingdom, and instead create conflicting dogma, doctrine and extraneous "fluff". If we wish to join the Kingdom of YHVH, we should realize that, there, we will be attending the feasts and keeping all of the laws and requirements that govern our behavior.

  7. Yes, as has been pointed out already, the 9/11 hijackers came in on tourist visas, as did the Boston bombers. The are any number of easier and faster ways to get into this country other than as refugees. That s actually one of the hardest ways and least certain of success of actually entering this country. But as we have seen repeatedly is that far more violence and acts of domestic terrorism are perpetrated by our own citizens, most natural born citizens than by foreigners.

A new perspective on Genesis 1

I'm not understanding what you're wanting to do here. I've heard of two options: 1.Accept that there was a world-wide flood, and interpret the geological record taking that into consideration. 2.Reject there was a world-wide flood, and interpret the geologic record that way. 1 leads to a young age, in the thousands of years, for created things. 2 leads to long ages. You're suggesting long ages, but without evolution. I've never heard this idea. If you're going to reject evolution, what do you need long ages for? Science doesn't teach this. It appears to me that you're suggesting a hybred which neither agrees with science (to clarify, when I say "science" in this post, I mean the general consensus scientists present), nor Scripture, but something new under the sun (congrats for that, btw; not easy to do). Also, what do you do with the flood? Just guessing; this was one of the many mass extinctions? This would be new too; long ages, plus the Noaich flood. You can have your cake and eat it too! Btw, I liked the question about stepping on the bugs. I've assumed before there was sin, there was no death, and that sin didn't happen until Eve sinned. I wonder about bacteria.

    The Rise of Islam

How are you thinking that the OT shows that God was in control? I think a lot here depends on how one interprets the phrase "in control", which is rather a vague phrase. Does "in control" imply things are going the way that you want them to go? When I think of the OT, it certainly doesn't strike me as a picture of things going according to plan. When I look at Jesus, to me that's a picture of what it looks like when God is in control.

    The Rise of Islam

Jackson, I believe the prophecy given to Daniel of the 70 7s, can be understood as a dual prophecy. The fulfillment of Messiah's death in the "midst of the week", certainly seems to "fit", but the fulfillment is not perfect. Jesus commanded His followers to "go ye therefore and teach all nations" moments before He ascended to heaven. He didn't tell them to wait 3.5 more years, until probation closed for the Jews, and only to teach Jews in the meantime. He told them to wait at Jerusalem for the promise of the Father, which was the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost. That was NOT a very long wait. Messiah is NOT the one - in this prophecy - who causes the sacrifices to cease. It is "the prince who is to come", whose troupes destroy the City. And it is AFTER the City is destroyed that "he" (the prince to come) makes a covenant (not "the" covenant) with many, and it is halfway through this "week" that "he" (the prince to come) brings an end to sacrifices. "And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate.” (NKJ) The dating of the command to "restore and to build Jerusalem" to 457BC has been MUCH debated. I realize that SDAs are very sure of this date. But others are NOT. The reason that traditional SDAs are so keen to prove 457 as the start of the 70 weeks, is BECAUSE they claim the 2300 "evening mornings" also began with that command, and that leads directly to Oct 22nd, 1844, and their doctrine of the investigative judgment - as if Jesus really needed to "investigate" His own sheep. He said Himself, "I know my sheep". He certainly doesn't need 175 years+ to determine who "follow" Him.

    Is America Really So Divided?

Would by and large agree with the article based on my own experience. Its a diverse country with many ideas, opinions and thinking. Politicians would like to make it seem that there are only two sides/thinking on an issue.....Theirs and yours....and we know which one is correct! Religionists are of the same cloth.

    The Rise of Islam

Have you read the OT?? I think you have. God was always in control, was he not?????? He allowed Israel to go into captivity and than allowed them to go back to there homeland, time and time again.

CBS: Majority Of Americans Don’t Trust Obama To Defeat Islamic State

I don't think there's really a way to put a percentage on the population of Muslims on the side of the jihadists, but even at 0.001%, that's still 16,000 who are hell-bent on destroying the "infidels" – and the recruitment to their cause is quite active... jus' sayin'...

We do? I know Mormons, Muslims, and JW's like to proclaim similar things as well. The God I serve has been able to preserve the message of His Word in spite of men's attempts to manipulate it (consciously or unconsciously). John 6:4 - "The Jewish Passover Festival was near." Really? This verse is somehow "key" to a possible religious conspiracy? I watched the first 4 minutes of the video and turned it off. It was fairly ridiculous IMO. I'm all up for new ideas, but not crazy ones.
