My daughter is now a mommy. She was in the delivery room as Samantha was being born, and was allowed to cut the umbilical cord. In the photo it looks as if my daughter had been crying, and she had, big tears of happiness. She and her husband were unable to conceive for many years, but made a connection in WA with an expectant mother who already had 3 children and definitely didn't want a 4th. My daughter had to suffer through a number of fertility treatments, none of which were successful. Samantha is officially adopted by my daughter and her husband, and was delivered by C-section a day or so ago. My daughter thought that she was perfect, even though Samantha howled during her first bath. She quieted down after she was wrapped up warmly and held by her new parents. The hospital gave the them a room to stay in until the baby is allowed to go home with them, just a day or two after birth. I think she has 1 month of maternity leave from the SDA conference where she works. Samantha.doc1 point -

Do you know where your beliefs and practices come from?

Well then. Why don't you go to church on Sunday with all the majority of folks, and forget that whole Sabbath thing, 'cause very few folks do "that" anyway. Lighten up - as you say. Most folks know that Dec 25th is the "rebirth" of the sun, and celebrating the birth of our LORD on that day, is baptized sun-worship. I still say "Thanks, You too." when someone says, "Merry Christmas" to me. I don't "witness" to them about the pagan idolatry of Christmas. But we don't buy a Christmas Tree either. I think Jeremiah wrote something about worshiping evergreen trees, and baking cakes for "the Queen of Heaven". Besides, It's JESUS who should receive the "gifts" at Christmas, NOT everyone ELSE.1 point -
SUFFERING
Lauralea reacted to Gerr for a topic
I have thought about this along with a related subject (Has God promised more than He could deliver?} over the years. Here are some thoughts: 1) The human condition and all the promises of God are book-ended or framed by two Biblical truths, (a) God's original creation was very good, Gen 1. As a result of sin, that paradise was lost. The ground was cursed, pain and death became the human experience, Gen 3. (b) Someday, that paradise will be restored where there will be no more pain, crying, or death. No matter how healthily you will still die. And how we die is not specified. It could by accident, old age, or a slow painful cancer death. 2) Another piece of that frame is the law of cause and effect. Defy the law of gravity by jumping off a tall building and the result is pretty certain, 100 prayers not withstanding. Eat foods that interfere with circulation and the result could a stroke, or a heart attack or something else. In my line of work, my observation is that many if not most human ailments/suffering are self-inflicted. 3) Innocent bystander/collateral damage. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time. 4) Refining aspect of hardships/trials/suffering. Not popular concept, but the Bible presents this nonetheless. 5) We are caught between two warring supernatural forces. If you choose God's side, Jesus guaranteed that you will have tribulation. 6) Hebrews 11:39-40 guarantees that all the promises of God cannot/will not be realized in this life. 7) Nothing can happen to the believer without God's permission, so in the meantime I just have to trust my God.1 point -

The retired pastor still has a membership at the Boulder church, and giving us what is happening now. Its got the same elements as the celebration church I was at, of that I can tell you. Are they exactly the same, no, but when you morph or change your form you don't stay the same but the end purpose is still the same.1 point -

Here is hoping your cousin died in Christ. We have some beautiful promises to bouy us up. 55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?....1 Corinthians 15 15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.....1 Thessalonians 4 God is Love!~Jesus saves!1 point -

Bible Reading mks Liberals
pilgrimatic reacted to CoAspen for a topic
The above post focus is on 'sin' rather than the focus of the article, which is looking at how people perceive their belief systems and the world around them. Some view 'conservative' as all about the 'sin' in others, and 'liberal' as seeing the value in others. Christ life was about both but mostly about about the value in others and presenting a better hope and life. Pointing out the 'sin' around Him was not a primary focus. The Jewish religious leaders were rather adept at that. We have plenty of 'sin' pointers, what we need is more pointers of 'hope'. Probably makes me a 'liberal' in some circles...but thats okay with me!!1 point
