    Emotionally connected

I have to be careful not to become dependent on another human being for my self-worth. When I was a child I was always afraid that one day I wouldn't have any friends. But that day never came. I am convinced that God works through people. I do need people - no doubt - but God puts the people in my life that I need. And God can use more than one person. Thus I need to not become dependent upon a single individual because God may remove that person and replace him or her with someone else.

    Emotionally connected

Having been involved in 12-step groups for the past 30 years, I find it easy to accept the basic concept of EFT but would need to understand the details before endorsing it. I think many intellectuals, like myself, struggle more with connecting to God on an emotional level. There are times when I have been studying apologetics or ancient history that I have had a "God moment" when I felt a flash of "God is real" and a few times after the "flash" I have felt a warm feeling about God just I do for a close and personal friend. The intellectual in me can explain these moments away in a rational way but not completely.

    SUFFERING

When we in America are somewhat perturbed upon receiving obvious slights, it is good to think of others not so fortunate. 8 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. ...James 1 God is Love!~Jesus saves!

Compared to other denominations, SDA know their Bible

Yes. Originally, I came to Club Adventist to TEST my doctrinal positions. It's a very good place to do that. Folks challenge the positions of other posters. I think it strengthens my positions, or it makes me go back to look at them seriously, and maybe adjust them. The good answers I "found" for the challenges of others, ended up in studies published on my website. So thanks to all those who have challenged me. Then I made a couple of friends. I'm glad for them. Concerning Mrs White: I had to get away from reading her, some years actually, before I could read Scripture without always remembering her interpretations- before I could study Scripture for itself. I used to really know those "red books". I'm not against EGW. I just don't believe she should be read as the infallible interpreter of Scripture. I think she was WRONG about some things. I have found that Adventists read Scripture with little EGW glasses. After years and years of the Sabbath School Quarterly - facing pages, one with EGW, the other with Scripture, it's hard NOT to think of her interpretation, whenever you read Scripture. The Hebrew Roots people, and the Church of God 7th Day people, also "know their Bible" more than average "church people". I have found that most folks who are part of a congregation, (especially those with kids or family in the same church, and ESPECIALLY those with responsible "positions" in those churches), are VERY resistant to anything "new" that might compromise their social support group - their "church family". They sense immediately what teaching is accepted, and what will be DANGEROUS. As one who was removed from teaching Sabbath School, and shunned out of the church for questioning the Trinity doctrine, I speak from experience. This is true of folks from every church - not just SDAs. And in a small town, where folks know everyone - new doctrines are especially dangerous. This is NOT about a "closed mind". This is about real FEAR of loosing ones social support group, and ones standing in the community. Every once in a while, I meet someone who has a REAL relationship with the LORD. These are the people who are most open to learning something new. Their hunger to know the LORD, outweighs their fear.

    Ask the Rabbi

Tevet 18 Walkway to the Mount From your Western Wall camera (http://www.aish.com/w/) I notice what appears to be a large covered walkway leading up the Temple Mount. Can you explain what that is? The Aish Rabbi Replies: To the right of the prayer area is a path going uphill, leading to a doorway that opens onto the Temple Mount itself. This is called the Mughrabim Gate, a main entrance for tourists to visit the Temple Mount. The original pathway was damaged in an earthquake in 2004, and a temporary wooden walkway has been installed just to the left of the hill. Archeological excavations are currently being conducted to remove the mound of dirt. This has uncovered an 8-meter-high gate leading into the Temple Mount which dates from the period of the Second Temple. It is known as Barclay's Gate, after the 19th-century American consul who first identified it. The entire area that is currently the Western Wall plaza was filled with low buildings when Israel liberated the area during the Six Day War of June 1967, and was later cleared away – except for the mound which is now being excavated. The plan is to install a permanent steel bridge to access the Temple Mount. By the way, since it is not known exactly where on the Holy Temple stood, Jews are prohibited by Torah law to set foot onto the Temple Mount, until such time that the Temple is rebuilt.

    SUFFERING

I don't believe the temperature fluctuated widely until AFTER the FLOOD. So - guess I would have to disagree with Mrs. White's description of things. Interesting that you're more in tune with EGW on this, with a completely DIFFERENT world just outside the garden - one with wide weather changes, and carnivorous animals - one which Satan had controlled for a long time. Adam and Eve were placed in a bubble - inside the garden - where nothing painful or "evil" existed. The "curse" existed only "outside" of the garden. Is that about right? To me, the "garden" was the location of the Tree of Life. Access to the Tree made one immortal. It was access to the Tree which was blocked after Adam/Eve disobeyed the LORD. The Tree was then removed from the earth. In Revelation, the Tree of Life is described as being inside the New Jerusalem. The New Jerusalem will descend to earth. The New Jerusalem will then be "the garden", but the entire EARTH will be made "new" - just as it was before sin.

  11. Hi Everyone, Well, this is our last week. We have through Friday, December 31, to raise the $50,00, (to be matched by Subaru),for Kim Carter, and “The Time For Change Foundation”. For those who may not be familiar with “The Time For Change Foundation”, go to: www.timeforchangefoundation.org Here’s a reminder. Subaru is matching up to $50,000 for each of the top 10 CNN Finalists. And, everything that Kim raises over the $50,000, she will get 100% of what is received. No fees will be taken out. You can donate at: http://www.cnn.com/donations/kim-carter.html If each one of us gave even $10.00, we could make this happen for Kim. I know that there are families, businesses, organizations, and churches, that could give a lot more than this. But, we would be so appreciative if we all could donate even this small amount. Kim wants so much to be able to bring in new women and children off the streets, and give them the beginning to a new life. I know that there are many organization that you are approached about all the time, and especially during this time of year. If we all gave up something small, for just 1 day, we could do it. And, if you have large donations left to give for 2015, please consider giving to “The Time For Change Foundation”. After you have donated, would you please share this with your friends, and on your FB page. I know that I ask this every time that I post about getting votes for Kim. But, since she did not win CNN Hero, this is the last, and probably the most important request for sharing that I am going to ask for. Please help me make this happen for her. We all came together to help Kim become a CNN Top 10 Hero, for 2015. Please, let’s all come together one last time, and help her take advantage, of Subaru’s generous $50,000 matching fund. Help make this a truly wonderful start for 2016, for Kim Carter, and the “Time For Change Foundation”. Happy New Year to you all, and God Bless you. Thank You, Carole.

It's an interesting therapy model: Suzie is studying counselling which means I'm helping with exam prep and reading over assignments and such in counselling, and I've heard of EFT that way. Suzie's main preferred models are solution focused therapy (SFT) and narrative, but she needs to build her repertoire and have as many tools as possible in the toolbox, and EFT is one of those. I completely get this emotional connection with another human being, and have been blessed in it in my own life. I have to admit that, for me, God hasn't fulfilled that role, but I'm sure that many others have different experiences, and I honour their experiences and the resulting beliefs.

I really like everything you say here Rachel. On my other forum, at this present moment I am having a frank and friendly exchange of ideas with a Buddhist, a Taoist, a Jew and an atheist within the last 15 minutes. And nobody feels threatened because I am pointing out how much we have in common. I know you are strong in your faith and could likewise converse with all of the above and not be moved in the least away from Christ or your beliefs since you have made a deep and personal study of the Bible to get where you are today. I know you can explain your beliefs at the drop of a hat - you don't have to look up what the handbook says. And a forum like this is the best place to get material for your web-page. And I like having my beliefs tested since, if they are wrong, they have to go

    A Robber’s Demand

Late one night in Washington,D.C., a robber jumped a well-dressed man and stuck a gun to his back. “Give me your money!” The robber demanded. The man stiffened, and protested indignantly, “You can’t do this to me! I’m a U.S.congressman!” “In that case, give me MY money!” The robber said.

    A Farmer’s Answer

A busload of politicians, on a “fact-finding” trip to speak to constituents, went missing. Members of the Secret Service and other law enforcement agencies hit the ground in search of them. Following an old road, they saw the bus crashed in a field and a farmer working nearby. The conversation with the farmer went like this: Agents: Was that wrecked bus filled with politicians from Washington? Farmer: Yup. Agents: Where are they now? Farmer: Buried ’em. Agents: They all died in the crash? Farmer: Some of ’em said they were alive but you know how politicians lie. … More: https://adventlife.wordpress.com/2012/08/21/some-funny-anecdotes/

But do you honestly think they were seeing the Bible as what (who) they were arguing against? How about trying a different way to win? Try a more winsome way to win some for Christ. Try winning souls to the kingdom instead of winning arguments about the kingdom?

    Factoring Polynomials

Interesting. I like what he's doing. I absolutely hated algebra in high school and dropped out of Algebra 2 before I flunked out of it. Ten years later I went back to school and took an Industrial Arts degree. Part of that degree was a very thorough study of electricity from the science of it to electrical codes, reading schematics, and troubleshooting circuits. It was in that course that I finally "got" algebra. In high school I had hated it because I could see no earthly reason for it. No matter what teachers I asked not a one of them could/would tell me what it was really good for. Then in studying electricity I found out the "why" of algebra. Knowing the why made all the difference. It was so simple I wondered why I basically flunked it in high school. Then I realized why. In high school it was taught in a very abstract way and algebra was not made practical in any way, shape, or form. Twenty years later I went back to school again, and once again, electricity was part and parcel of the course study. When I signed up for the course I was told I wouldn't be able to do the math without having a background in calculus, but there were no openings in the calculus classes that quarter. So, I told the people signing me up for classes I figured I could do the math as it was related to electricity. They allowed me to take the electronics course without having the prerequisite and by the end of the quarter I had aced the course. The guy teaching electronics gave a point or two of extra credit every week and at the end I had more than 100% of the total points used to figure the grade. Trig I taught myself from a textbook written in the 1890's. Whoever wrote that textbook knew how to communicate in the way I learn. I read the first 8 or 10 pages of that book and said, Oh, this is nothing but ratios, and that is about all there is to trig. Oh, it's in a lot more complex system than simple ratios but as long as I think about trig in terms of ratios it's a piece of cake. I can visualize it easily.

  24. Caphriel, Sorry to hear about a rough time but rough patches don't last forever . Your defiantly in the right place to find answers. Anyways, I don't know that I'd say the flood or sending Jesus was God correcting His mistakes. Instead I think its Him cleaning up our mess. He gave us a perfect starting point and gave the free will to follow His plan. Unfortunately we deviated from the plan and chose ourselves over Him. Then he had to clean up! God knows the beginning from the end. So sometimes it's hard to fathom why all this would happen or be allowed to. Sending Jesus may seemingly seem like a fix but I'd rather see it as a solution to our problem. Also, I don't know that Jesus' coming would necessarily be a change of plan or message. Furthermore what is Gods "message"? In it's purest form I think He just wants us know, love and have a relationship with Him. He doesn't want anyone to miss out on this opportunity so He sent Jesus to give us a way. Just to re iterate, I think His message has remained the same the whole time, but as we mess it up, Him not being willing that any shall perish, has to provide a new way. I think God's done providing new "paths." The whole issue originated when man sinned. Sin = death (forever) Thus Jesus paid the price. So I don't see a need to correct any more "mistakes." The end is drawing near, and God has laid on the plate what needs to be done. Now it's up to us to make the right choice. I hope this helps
