My name stands for something so profound it goes over most heads ..going by the postings and background chat. And listening to what too many Christians say in my presence (when they don't know i'm QUEER) for too many decades about the LGBTIQQAAP..ugh..uhhh it is best on the Stranger laden Internet for me not to use my real pic and name. Only in transparency, trust, and connection with JESUS as the Foundation would that change. (a Few know my real name) It is lost on so many why exactly why putting myself out there. It is OK. (one of the main reasons is I get to hear all kinds of great thoughts(and not so great) and advice to me..showing too much of themselves..so I can deal with them accordingly) we don't need real names and pics to show Who we are Every Post people Post says the world about themselves!. I admire this latest decision of yours, although I can't think of anything you've said in the past which would be offensive to anyone had it been signed by your true name. The name is mine, and the photo is my inner-self.

I've made the decision to transition from my nickname - which I've had here for a very, very long time - to using my real name. In the transition I've kind of kept both. I've also uploaded an actual photo of myself rather than the cartoon version I've been using. Others who are more vulnerable for a wide variety of family or work related or other reasons may prefer to still use nicknames and other representations, and I completely honour that. When the issue has come up in the past, I've been quick to recognise that I'm in a privileged position in being able to say pretty much whatever I want to online without serious repurcusions. Others are not in that situation. For me, I think it will be a bit of a sobering influence: at least once I have been contacted by a real person about whom I had said something on this forum - and that was when I had a nickname. Now that it's all searchable with my own name, it'll lead to additional think-before-speaking, which isn't a bad thing.

I feel very much the same way. We can (and do!) reveal ourselves through our words and actions. A rose by any other name would smell as sweet! To me, it's important to be kind, fair, and just everyday, no matter what name I go by: Daughter, wife, mother, daughter, grand-daughter, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law, friend, parishoner, acquaintance, employer, employee, customer, client... I chose to remain semi-anonymous here because it allows me to write "aloud" thoughts that I am uncomfortable sharing with every person I know. If confronted, I wouldn't deny what I've shared here, but it's not something I want in the open all of the time.

I know that Ezekiel 9 gets a lot of attention, but I was reading Chapter 16 and was wowed. Again I ask, What was so terrible that the nation of Judah did that brought down such condemnation from God? Their idolatry was SO abhorrent to the Heavenly Father. We understand that the people passed their children through the fire. They also did the sin of Sodom in neglecting their poor. They were also violent. Our world today is not so different, is it? Our bad deeds may be done more in the name of humanism but maybe by misrepresenting God they are done to another God.

Oh, I'm shocked! As soon as I read Penticton, B.C., I shouted to myself about my close FRIEND, Juanita Lang, who was also from Penticton. -- Then, reading on, I see that this Mrs. Noyes was Juanita Lang's SISTER! I spoke at Juanita's funeral many years ago, so maybe I've met Mrs. Noyes. Juanita was one of my dearest friends, back in the '60s and '70s in California. She died very young, of breast cancer. Our "Advent Movement" is something like a huge fraternity! Anywhere there are groups of Adventists, there are bound to be people you know, or knew at one time. Won't it be wonderful, when we get to heaven, to see all these friends of ours who've been taken from us here on this earth! It will be a grand homecoming! God is good. We have SO much to look forward to!

Tevet 28 Man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7). Rabbi Leib, the son of the Chassidic master Rabbi Mordechai of Nesh'chiz, related that he remembered being a small child sitting on his father's lap. His father told him, "The Targum (Aramaic translation of the Torah) interprets living soul as a speaking spirit. In other words, people acquire the capacity to speak by virtue of the Divine soul that is instilled within them. Inasmuch as God is truth, the Divine soul, which is part of God, is also truth. Since people's souls are linked with this ability to speak, speech can only be truth. That is why," the Rabbi continued, "if someone lies, that is not speech, only meaningless noise." "Ever since then," Rabbi Leib said, "whenever someone lies to me, all I hear is undistinguishable sounds, just noise. I cannot make out words, and I cannot understand what the person is saying." How wonderful it would be if we too could so refine our hearing that our ears could perceive only truth, and that untruths would be just scrambled sounds! Still, if we cannot rise to the spiritual heights of Rabbi Leib, we may nevertheless understand that if we lie, we are not really speaking, but only making noise. To lie is to distort the God-given gift of speech into meaningless sounds that cannot possibly achieve anything truly beneficial to us. Think of yourself as a concert pianist who, instead of playing melodious music, bangs indiscriminately on the keys, producing an annoying cacophony. When you are not speaking the truth, you are making the same noise. Today I shall ... try to realize that speech is not only a special gift of God, but is in itself Divine, and I shall not demean it by lying.

The person who believes, and is then filled with the Spirit of Christ - that person becomes "a new creation", newly created through the infilling of the Spirit of Christ.

There's an "if" in there - "Therefore if anyone is in Christ". Which means NOT EVERYONE is "in Christ" - only some people. Romans 16:7 "Greet Andronicus and Junia, my countrymen and my fellow prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me." (NKJ) If everyone was "in Christ" when He died, then Romans 16:7 doesn't make sense. Andronicus and Junia were "in Christ" BEFORE Paul was. This makes union with Christ something that HAPPENS at a point in the person's life - NOT something that happened once for all humanity, when Jesus died. Everyone is NOT "in Christ" from birth. So - how does one get there? The question then becomes: HOW does "anyone" arrive at the position of being "in Christ" (in union with Christ) ? Acts 16:31 So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (NKJ) Luke 8:12 "Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved." (NKJ) John 1:12 "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:" (NKJ). Those who do NOT receive Him - those who do NOT believe, do NOT "become children of God". Which means we start out - not as "children of God" - but as children of Adam, condemned to death.

Psalm 115:16 "Heaven belongs to ADONAI, but the earth he has given to humankind." (CJB) The whole EARTH - not just a little "garden". Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make humankind in our image, in the likeness of ourselves; and let them rule [have dominion] over the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the animals, and over all the earth, and over every crawling creature that crawls on the earth." (CJB) Genesis 1:31 "And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day." (KJV) "Very good" doesn't sound like a "relatively hostile environment". Genesis 1:26 is BEFORE Eve ate of the "Tree". Humankind had "dominion". Human beings were given dominion, on condition of perfect obedience. Satan stole the dominion, (by deception) because he got the humans to disobey. Satan knew they would loose the dominion. When mankind lost the dominion, Satan began to manipulate things. Christ had to come as a man, to fulfill the conditions for dominion - perfect obedience. Only as a man, could Jesus win back the dominion FOR MANKIND. Jesus wins the dominion by fulfilling the condition - perfect obedience. With the dominion comes the right to say who will live within His dominion - His kingdom. Hence the right to judge.

The suggestion that this star was some natural astronomical object, isn't a new one. Several suggestions has been made to explain this, such as planetary conjunctions, a supernova, and now, a comet. There are some theological difficulties here, though… First and foremost, the Bible explicitly tell us to avoid attaching any significance to natural astronomical events: “This is what the LORD says: "Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them.” - Jeremiah 10:2. The ancients were especially afraid of comets, which due to its shape (a comet resembles a sword) was interpreted as a sign of impending war or death. Secondly, the link between history, chronology and ancient astronomical events is a lot more shaky than most people realize. It's impossible to conclude that the Star of Bethlehem was a comet without making multiple assumptions. So, my personal opinion is that this theory is tenuous at best, misleading at worst. Explaining away the miracles in the Bible won't make it easier for seculars to believe, either... Finally, Ellen White's take on this is very interesting. She denied that this star was a natural event, instead she claimed that what they saw were of a supernatural origin. “The wise men had seen a mysterious light in the heavens upon that night when the glory of God flooded the hills of Bethlehem. As the light faded, a luminous star appeared, and lingered in the sky. It was not a fixed star nor a planet, and the phenomenon excited the keenest interest. That star was a distant company of shining angels, but of this the wise men were ignorant. Yet they were impressed that the star was of special import to them. They consulted priests and philosophers, and searched the scrolls of the ancient records. The prophecy of Balaam had declared, “There shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.” Numbers 24:17. Could this strange star have been sent as a harbinger of the Promised One? The magi had welcomed the light of heaven-sent truth; now it was shed upon them in brighter rays. Her campaign poster read, “Heidi Nelson, the auspicious choice,” according to classmate Travis Romero. “I asked her, ‘Nobody knows what the word auspicious is,’ ” Romero said. “She said, ‘Isn’t that great? You get an extra word for your SATs.’ ” Despite the slogan, Cruz lost. Romero said he endearingly thought of Cruz when he watched the movie “Election,” in which Reese Witherspoon plays an overachieving student running for class president. Cruz went to Claremont McKenna College and was active in the college Republicans and interested in appointive political office, said her mentor, Edward Haley. She also was intent on a career in business first. She moved to New York after graduation and worked on emerging markets at J.P. Morgan, an area in which she was interested after spending summers in Africa doing missionary work with her parents. She was put on the Latin America desk and taught herself to speak Spanish between 18-hour work days. Cruz achieved her dream of attending Harvard Business School but turned down a job at Goldman Sachs to work on George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign. She told the New York Times in 2001 that she had just broken up with a boyfriend of two years. She planned to “forget boys” and “kill myself on the campaign.” Instead, she met Ted Cruz, who by his own admission turned off campaign colleagues with what he described as a “cocky” attitude. But not Heidi Nelson. She said he reminded her of “a 1950s movie star.” He grilled her on her hopes, aspirations and dreams during their first date. They were married the following year. She was the star when the couple arrived in Washington, netting jobs at the Treasury Department and then the White House, working as a Latin America director on the National Security Council. Ted Cruz was floundering, and he moved back to Texas to become the state’s solicitor general with hopes of launching a political career. After the move, she suffered through a period of depression. “When I moved to Texas, it really was for Ted, and I wasn’t comfortable with that,” she told The Washington Post in September. She now holds her own campaign events, talking up her husband’s values and laying out what the campaign sees as a grass-roots path to victory. She remains the campaign’s top fundraiser, now making many calls from the road instead of from the campaign’s airy Houston headquarters, where she installed a playroom with pillows decorated with raspberry prints for the girls. Cruz said she aims to make 30 calls a day but typically averages about 20 to 25; she is calling from the campaign and super PAC lists and trying to persuade donors to give the maximum allowed under federal election law. “I don’t want to say it’s easy, and I don’t close every deal,” she said. “I think people want to be a part of something that addresses the main issue of the day, number one, which is Washington versus the people.” She tries to frame the chance people have to support her husband, whether with time, money or a vote, as an investment opportunity. When I say I'm backing Jeb it does not mean I support his polices. I just think he'll win the nomination. I think unhindered Illegal immigration is a problem like illegal unhindered invasion and conquest is a problem but that's for another thread.

What happened to verse 20? Why should our message as Christ's ambassadors be "be ye reconciled to God" if everybody already was reconciled to God? Shouldn't it be, "Hey, you! Yes, you! You were reconciled to God!"

Yes, we are getting much closer here to the truth. Jesus had to suffer from as I said his appetites, desires and passions were not naturally under the control of reason. They were also not in the proportions that God had created in Adam, but the disproportions that all the centuries of sin had produced. He could get tired and hungry. What he did not have in him which we do, is selfishness/contempt. the disposition in us to think we are for ourselves by making less of the outside world/to esteem himself more highly than others. We the best we can do is still marred by selfishness. Jesus was totally unselfish. Satan had to temp him in ways that did not appeal to selfishness. But this did not leave him out of Satan's reach, it only meant that Satan had to adapt his temptations to Jesus' situation. He had to temp Jesus to think that in not denying self he would end up glorifying the father and care for the world around him. While in the past God took the appearance of an angel and person and fire and probably like the beings on other planets, when he became Jesus he actually became man. God had never actually become one of his creatures before. God did not know if he could truly live a life in total harmony with his law of self renouncing love. There was a very real risk of failure. Adam and Eve fell despite all their advantages. Jesus succeeded despite his disadvantages. But we have to realize that while Jesus truly had disadvantages that we are dealing with, he did not have a taint of selfishness. He did not have a taint of thinking he was for himself by making less of the outside world. Did not have the taint of wanting to esteem himself above others. This actually gave Satan an advantage over Jesus that we selfish contemptuous people do not have. By bringing the worst of sin to Jesus he was hoping to repulse Jesus' purity enough to give up. Jesus was therefore tempted in ways that we cannot be tempted. The book Questions on doctrine sadly only emphasized Jesus' divinity. Elder Andresen correctly pointed out that it was only a half message. But we have messed it up by not following Andresen's appeal to grab the whole truth but the liberals take QOD as the whole truth and the conservatives take the missing parts, and added the sinful nature and present this as the whole truth. Both are important pieces of the truth.

True....So Christ as a man, because He had assumed our fallen humanity, was tempted to go against His Father's own will and use the power of His Divinity. What's the root of the temptation? The love of self....So Christ was tempted by our bent-to-self . Our bent (iniquity) comes from within. Christ denied self....He said "no" through the power of the Spirit and conquered where we have failed.

In response to reading and skimming this thread... Jesus was tempted to satisfy hunger by using his divine prerogatives that he had set aside in order to meet us where we are. If he had done that he would have left us behind. Jesus was tempted to deny his Lordship granted at birth and held through humility and surrender to His father's will, and have instant false ownership of all. Jesus was tempted to display his relationship with his Father, through presumption, and to prove his protected status, inadvertently denying that he was indeed the great I AM. Jesus maintained a self control stronger than death, deceit, and all the glory of this world. "If you are truly the Son of God"... the enemy came to challenge his identity. If he could have shaken or diverted Christ from his identity, his true position, His relationship to to heaven... he hoped he would obtain some shade of recognition or allegiance to his perverse code which was be God in this world. When Christ is meeting the enemy in our lives... these battles are in some form repeated. We are tempted to deny God, to not let Christ inherently be Lord of our hearts, of everything, and everyone. Christ has all authority over the evil one, over all sin, and all righteousness. He took captivity captive, and intercedes for all. By Him all things consist. Christ is indeed more than our hope, more than our redeemer, He is inexhaustible in all that he is. We are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.
