What is "Immorality"?
phkrause and 2 others reacted to LifeHiscost for a topic
It is my understanding that the practice of pornographic viewing has definite deleterious physical affects on the brain. That would just seem to me to verify the caution given in the Word before the present characteristics of Sodom and Gomorrah began appearing in present day society. 11 Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.....1 Peter 2 God is Love!~Jesus saves!3 points -

The above remarks are slanted and incomplete. n 1816, President James Madison proposed federal funding for a system of internal improvements (including roads) in the states, asking that the Constitution be amended to let the federal government finance and construct the projects. A bill to finance internal improvements with funds from a bonus payment from the Bank of the United States passed Congress in 1817. President Madison vetoed the legislation on the last day of his term (March 3, 1817) because the constitution had not been amended. 5 Over the years after its construction, Cumberland Road deteriorated badly from heavy traffic and a lack of funds for maintenance. Because of the road’s deterioration, Congress passed legislation in 1822, which authorized the federal government to collect tolls that would be used for maintenance. President James Monroe vetoed the legislation and stated in his veto message that the collection of tolls implied a power of sovereignty that was not granted to the federal government by the Constitution. 6 Congress provided funding for repairs to the road. https://www.fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R42140.pdf But, lets never let the facts get in the way of our 'pet' complaints about government.3 points -

my observation from reading the LA Times & Seattle Times (both very liberal newspapers), and generally watching CNN and ABC News (never Fox), is that our POTUS comes across as being more concerned about gun control than he is about terrorism or protecting Americans. Granted, there's always politics "behind the scenes" that very few see, but it certainly seems that Obama seldom speaks out publicly unless it's about gun control. It's been interesting to me lately, that in the current "occupation" of Oregon's Malheur Wildlife Refuge by armed protesters, that in my online comments, conservatives have labelled me as a Democratic "libtard".... which is funny because I'm a Republican moderate. It's just that I happen to be someone who doesn't vote party lines — I vote after considering the words and actions of candidates. And I calls them as I sees them.. **back to topic**2 points -

There might be a reason why the Bible is silent on this. It doesn't say much either regarding the Sabbath other than it is to be kept holy.2 points -

Pay attention joeb and Bonnie. That was my 6th post in this discussion. Perhaps you should scroll back and actually read my previous posts before you launch your ad hominem whining and complaining about me. Despite your implication which Bonnie voiced about "standard answer", it seems to me that your standard knee jerk answer is to whine and complain and take personal offense whenever anyone disagrees with and offers a pointed contrary comment against you POV. And for the record, the observation that there are a lot of strawmen running around had a lot more substance as an observation about the topic at hand, and was not directed at anyone specifically participating in the discussion, than your expressions of contempt specifically about me. Look up what a strawman argument is. Much of the arguments put forward in this discussion have indeed been precisely that. No need to get sucked into that vortex of pointless argument and debate over irrelevant and falsely premised arguments that distract from the real and substantive points at issue.2 points -

We all have our perceptions and understanding that in the media what will get the most views/read is what people remember, so I would agree with you. But the reality is that just watching the evening news for the last 7 years, it ain't true. Whenever there is gun violence yes one hears a lot more about gun control. If the pres wasn't speaking out he would be criticized for it. Gun violence is a very real problem and needs to be addressed. Since I live in CO and have seen 3 school shootings and others, maybe I am just a little more weary of the NRA rhetoric than others....well Sandy Hook people probably have it on their minds more. ...I will shut up and get off my soap box....nothing new to say...back to topic of BC!!!!1 point -

You have some interesting points of view...but.... Really? You think that is his biggest concern? Lets be honest and not use NRA rhetoric. Everyone is law-abiding until they break the law. Having laws enforced that do back ground checks makes sense or people will want to know AND complain about mass shootings where unstable people have obtained weapons. You obey the law, you can buy and sell the 'guns' people are so dearly in love with. Gun violence is on the rise and more people own guns. Defense? Really? That phrase is so out of date and moldy I wonder why it is still used. Ho, I know!! To instill fear!! We had a President once who was a self avowed Christian and tried to live and rule by those values....remember him? Roundly trashed...oh thats right...he wasn't a republican Christian!! Politics! Things could change, if people get involved and stop voting party lines, think for themselves, stop listening to stump talk, half truth political commercials, etc, etc. We the people are the reason for what happens, we put them in office, over and over. People like to quote from history about this pres or that pres, forgetting that at no time have we had a public that agreed or saw him as 'the one. It is only in death that they obtain greatness. This is a huge country of states with diverse ways of life and thinking. That is a hard task to keep all under control, let alone being a leader in the world and considered the top dog. How long have we been around, pretty good job has been accomplished, I would say, even with all the faults and warts. Half full or half empty. I agree with Obama's words....when they tell you how terrible everything is, don't believe them(they lie).1 point -
"In Christ" - the gospel as taught by Paul
LifeHiscost reacted to Robert for a topic
Jesus as the Son of God had the power to take it up, but He had handed the independent use of His Divinity over to the Father as I previously stated. Therefore while Christ Divinity had the power, it was His Father who raised Him: Acts 3:14-15. 14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. Acts 4:10. 10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. Acts 10:40 Him God raised up the third day Romans 10:9 God hath raised him from the dead I Corinthians 15:15. we have testified of God that he raised up Christ Romans 6:4 …Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father I Corinthians 6:14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. Galatians 1:1 Paul, an apostle, not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead Colossians 2:12 …God, who hath raised him from the dead1 point -
"In Christ" - the gospel as taught by Paul
phkrause reacted to joeb for a topic
The book of Ruth is only a small part of what the OT teaches on this subject. Moses, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, in fact, almost all but 1 or 2 the OT prophets used the imagery of ga'al or ransom when speaking about redemption, being redeemed, etc.... It is literally all the way through the entire OT. In the NT, all four gospel writers, Paul, Peter, and Titus use the same imagery in their writings when referring to redeem, redemption, redeemed, etc.... It is very clear that they brought this understanding to their writings from the OT which exclusively teaches the concept of ga'al as the legal justification for Christ paying our penalty for our sins. Ellen White says Christ specifically gave ga'al, the law of inheritance, to not only explain the plan of salvation, but to show that God always operates justly and by the rule of law. If He didn't the devil would immediately attack Him for being unjust and not operating according to His own laws. In doing word studies on redeemer, redeemed, redeem, redemption, dominion, inheritance, and atonement from writings of Ellen White I have found more than 50 megabytes of statements in support of this. It is all the way through her writings. Moses, in Exodus 30:11-16, ties the concept of atonement to ransom. In the following quotes from Ellen White she makes her position on the linkage of ransom, redemption, and the legal right Christ had to do this very clear. Ellen White's statements on this are very clear. I've given only two, but I have hundreds of quotations from her on this. Notice in the above quote that she ties atonement directly to ransom just as Moses did.1 point -

I really like and respect Ben Carson. He is a deeply spiritual, god-fearing, and balanced individual. But I question whether or not he's presidential material because of his lack of political experience and connections. He is just too nice of a guy. I just don't know if he's willing (or capable) of playing as dirty as some of his fellow candidates.1 point -
What is "Immorality"?
phkrause reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
The term "immorality" has a range of meanings. I am not totally comfortable in using in in this context. So, I will suggest that sexual conduct that is agreeable to competent, consenting, married, adults and does not cause harm to either should not be of concern to anyone else.1 point -
What time is it_______________
phkrause reacted to CoAspen for a topic
True, but some seem to think that 'comforting words' are not 'truth speaking' and seem to be only concerned about a version of 'truth' they wish to have others believe. 'Smooth saying', which is different from comforting words, is implied to be the same as comforting and therefore one should be afraid of such. I reject anything that brings fear into a relationship with God.1 point -
