Back when I was a student in academy I once had to quickly come up with a short devotional to offer during our next concert at the church we were traveling to by bus. As soon as the director asked me I was easily in panic mode blankly staring out the window hoping and desperately praying for some kind of divine inspiration in the short time before we would arrive at the church. As I looked up at the sold rock face of the cut for the highway that had been blasted through a hillside, I saw it. Spray painted on the rock in big letters was "Jesus Saves". And the thought quickly developed in my mind to focus on this God glorifying graffiti so fittingly painted on the solid rock. That saved the day for me!

The Safeway grocery store in my neighborhood where I lived as a teen-ager had a clean long wall to it's building side. One day I walked by the wall and read "Jesus Saves" on it. Some newbie Christian enthusiast doing their mission work with graffiti paint. A short while later I walked by and had a good chuckle. Someone else had added to make the whole into a complete sentence... "Jesus saves green stamps from Safeway". In addition I wish to share an anecdote of my own. After my baptism no one asked if I owned a bible. No, I did not have one. I was too shy to ask anyone to donate one to me. But mother and I was saving green stamps for many months. We had five stamps books. When looking into the prizes offered in the small pamphlet, I saw a bible offered for five full stamps books. I was so grateful. It was then the first of my eventual bibles as I later got more money to buy more study ones.

I have recently relocated and am now living in a retirement community in Southern California. I am the only Adventist among 250 elderly residents. Whenever we residents visit each other, at the dining room or elsewhere on this campus, the question often arises: Where were you born? As soon as I reply "Loma Linda" the other person almost always counters with: "Then you must be an Adventist." I think Loma Linda equals Adventist in the minds of most Southern Californians. Of course I'm happy that they know this. Thus far I've had several interested persons here asking more about my faith.

If God is real, why couldn't he have DNA? We know that we have common DNA with most all living things. (Science oriented people correct me if I am wrong...) Much of DNA is not necessarily activated or the combinations of it result in different formations of life. The DNA in the cells of my foot are the very same as one will find in the cells of my eye, or my blood or my hair or... If we share common DNA with other creatures, why not the Creator too? What if His DNA is programmed to allow whatever physical form or forms he may appear in or even the ability to change that appearance? Think in terms of color changing ability among certain animals.

LOL. I hadn't seen this before so I couldn't answer it before. I'm accusing Paul of nothing. He didn't teach such heresy. I've studied everything we have that he wrote and I find it nowhere in in his writings. He agrees with the rest of the Bible at all times. The "in Christ" motif does not. Just because he used the two word phrase "in Christ" doesn't mean he agrees with you and Sequira. Far from from it. If he was alive today he'd call you out on perverting his writings.

If Jesus didn't pay our ultimate penalty of death, the second death, why do the wicked pay that penalty and we do not? Second, if Jesus only died the same temporary death all humanity dies, why do Christ's followers die the first death? jesus, according to you, paid that debt. Now, as to the scapegoat.... The two goats were brought to the sanctuary. One was called the "Lords goat" and the other the scapegoat. The "Lord's goat" was slain and his blood sprinkled on the alter and mercy seat. The other was led away alive after the high priest transferred all confessed sin to it. It was led away into the wilderness. What is this earth called in the Bible during the millenium? A wilderness. Who lives there? The devil and his angels. The symbolism is very plain. In what version of the Gospel does Jesus not die for sin? In what version of the Gospel is Jesus led into the wilderness to bear sin? I can answer both questions. In no Biblical version of the Gospel does either event happen.

Now visit its website and time yourself on how long it takes you to discover that it is a Seventh-day Adventist entity. Hint first page, scroll to the bottom... read the "About Us" page... Read about its history, its mission/purpose...

Trying to get back on topic... I do agree with your concerns about proudly letting the world now we are Adventists and that especially the flagships of our institutions likewise clearly identify themselves as Adventist. However I think that a picture is worth more than a a few hundred words in the LA times: Notice the words under the name of the Medical Center.

It's possible he was awakened from deep sleep. I had two sons that were almost impossible to wake up. A lot of it was because when they claimed to be going to bed at 11PM, the went to their rooms and got on their computers until about 4 AM. If this is the son whom you have discussed before, mental issues (like bipolar) can profoundly disturb one's sleeping patterns. Thanks for your prayers and messages, Fem. They have encouraged me.

I say it is beside the point of this topic because this brief bit in a newspaper is not the legal description of the corporate relationships, not about them, nor should it be. Note carefully the mention of at last 4 or five other healthcare entities. Can you conclude merely from this very short note in the LA Times who or what each is legally affiliated with? Maybe the two university hospitals. But I can assure you that even their name does not define the legal relationship, nor is it in any way legally conclusive of what legal relationship those facilities have to the university that is identified as a part of their name. The question is really more of a PR issue. Is it relevant for this short article in the LA Times that LLUMC is affiliated with the Adventist Church? Not really. It is well known in Southern California. The talking points and subject is not even about the Church. And I don't think it is any secret anyway.

That is an incorrect statement. Adventist Healthcare is a part of the denomination. That is why they are allowed to use the name of the denomination as part of their name. The denomination has a policy (NAD WP C47) setting the standards and qualifications to have denominational status, which is to say, whether an entity is a part of the denomination. Adventist Healthcare entities satisfy the requirements of that policy.
