Editorial: Something smells in the Democratic Party
Jeannieb43 and 2 others reacted to Bravus for a topic
Point 1: Superdelegates are an internal Democratic Party matter and the reason Bernie has so few is that he only recently joined that party. It might not seem reasonable, but they are effectively the reward of faithfully serving a particular party for a long time. Nothing crony about it: just earned. (side note: I make this point out of fairness, not out of favour for Hillary - I have all sorts of issues with her as the nominee) Point 2: a coin toss *did not* decide the result in Iowa. Six coin tosses decided the results in small sections of ridings/electorates/seats where the vote was otherwise tied, but the results of those coin tosses *did not* determine the overall result. The truth matters.3 points -

Only in Jesus can we form one right thought. God's loving and forgiving kindness has been generously made available to every human being, mercy upon mercy grace upon grace. Where sin abounds grace much more abounds. all are sinners and all produce self centered thinking. The heart is deceitful above all things who can know it. there is none that arouseth themselves to seek after thee. all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. God invites, Look unto me and be ye saved all ends of the earth. of ourselves we can do nothing, but i can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. what a wonderful Saviour, what a wonderful redemption.2 points -
"In Christ" - the gospel as taught by Paul

John 12:32 "And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." (NIV) Jesus did NOT SAY that He would merge all people with himself, or take all people INTO Himself. He just said "draw". So everyone is DRAWN, but some RESIST. Those who do NOT RESIST - the Spirit of Christ does live in those people. Jesus said, "I will come in to him, and sup with him." "Christ in you, the hope of glory." (Col 1:27 NKJ) Here's part of the New Covenant promise: Ezekiel 37:14 "I will put My Spirit within you and you will come to life, and I will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken and done it," declares the LORD.'"2 points -

Last night one of the greatest men in my life passed away. He was a proud father, grandfather and recently a great grandfather. He taught at Lima Linda university and Andrews university with pride and then pastored in the Portland, Oregon area. He was proud to be an adventist. I lived him very much. When I married into the family it was truly a blessing. It was a blessing to know him as a man and a man of God. He lived his family and he loved his friends. He blessed everyone he came in contact with. He wrote several books and had even more in the making of which one of his grandaughters is going to publish them. May this man reat in peace knowing how much he was loved and how much he loved others.1 point -

He acknowledged Jesus on the cross, when he asked Jesus to remember him. This might be to simplistic for you, but to me he's saying to Jesus, I know who you are and what you can do for me a sinner. Personally I don't think he needed to ask for forgiveness, it was pretty much understood by Jesus what he was saying/asking for!1 point -

I used physically DEAD legs, to illustrate a spiritually DEAD mind. The spiritually DEAD mind, was in a physically alive person. Samie - I just don't agree with you. I think you ignore a great many Scriptures, which do not support your position. You quote verses out of context. You quote a passage from one translation which seems to support your position, when almost all other translations do not. I'll just post back when/as I have time and energy. Reading your posts, and thinking thru my answers, has certainly strengthened me - in my understanding. So thank you.1 point -

in some respects, I think it's silly. Identifying words are not necessarily demeaning or marginalizing. Suppose someone had to point out a certain person in a crowd. According to the teacher referenced above, we couldn't say if the person was a man or woman. It might even be 'off' to describe the person as having red hair, wears glasses, or uses a wheelchair or cane. If the unidentified person was holding a poodle, we really oughtn't to describe the poodle, and should just say dog... Wait! Cats would be offended...1 point -

Stan reacted to debbym for a topic
Thanks for the introduction to a new vegetable to my life. http://parade.com/23643/linzlowe/what-the-heck-is-romanesco-and-how-do-you-cook-it/ "One of the more unusual vegetables we’ve come across, Romanesco appears to be part psychedelic broccoli, part alien life form. In fact, it’s an edible flower from the family that includes broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage. It tastes very similar to cauliflower, but with a slightly nuttier, earthier flavor. You can use it as you would cauliflower in recipes, and it holds up to many different cooking methods. “Romanesco can be served raw, lightly cooked, or cooked through,” saidMario Batali in a column for the Seattle Times last fall. “I usually sauté it slowly with garlic and lemon zest, and punctuate with red pepper flakes for zing.” It’s also delicious steamed and lightly seasoned with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Of course, the most fascinating part of Romanesco is its appearance. Its spiraled buds form a natural approximation of a fractal, meaning each bud in the spiral is composed of a series of smaller buds."1 point -

DJD213 - Great Plans
Naomi reacted to David Edgren for a topic
Read More Daily Jesus Scripture: Proverbs 22:6 Starting Question: What is something that one of your parents said to you that you will never forget? Great Plans When I was about 8 years old, my Mom said something to me that surprised me. It was Sunday morning. I had finished breakfast and was heading out to hop on my BMX bike for a day of riding around our country property. There were lots of bush tracks, dirt roads and the occasional system of jumps to make the ride fun! As I was getting my mike out of the garage, Mom said, “I don’t want you riding on the paved road. Stay on the dirt roads.” This sounds like a perfectly reasonable request unless you know about the jumps on the section of paved road in the cut-away just above our property. A small hillside had been cut into so the road could travel up gently. There were huge dirt sides with drainage ditches on both sides of the paved road. And, in these ditches were jumps that used the momentum of coming down the hillside and launched you high up and far out - onto the paved road. “Awwww, please!?! Those are the best jumps!” I begged. “Davy,” Mom said, “Cars drive through there very fast. If you got hit by a car, you could die!” Those were the words that surprised me. “You could die!” It’s not that I thought I was Superman or some other superhero. I knew I was mortal. It was just very different than something else my Mom repeated many many many times as I was growing up. God has great plans for you life. She told all of us kids that more times than we could count. “But Mom,” I said, “I can’t die.” Now it was Mom’s turn to be surprised. She folded her arms across her chest and said, “Oh, really? And why would you think a silly thing like that?” “Because,” I said, with complete confidence, “You always say God has great plans for my life and I haven’t done anything for Him, yet!” Mom laughed! Then she said, “Davy, God does have great plans for your life. That’s true. But He also expects you to act responsibly. No riding on the paved road. I mean it!” Well, that settled it. Every kid knows “I mean it” means business! I honestly do not remember where I rode my bike that day. But, what I do remember is that story and that promise: God has great plans for my life. God has great plans for your life, too. Hopefully you have someone reminding you of that promise every day. That single phrase has given me hope and a sure future over and over in my life. Thanks Mom! Reflection Question: How will you speak God's promises into someone else's life today? Prayer time: Before you pray together, ask: What would you like to say to Jesus today? "In Christ" - the gospel as taught by Paul
phkrause reacted to 8thdaypriest for a topic
The paralytic's legs were DEAD. Life from Christ flowed INTO those legs. The man stood up and walked. THAT's the process. If you were correct Samie, then all human beings would be ALIVE - attached to Christ. But the Bible says all humans are "dead in trespasses and sins" UNTIL they are made alive by the inflowing Spirit of Christ. So - a person is spiritually DEAD - until life from Christ flows INTO that person. The person then believes, and then acts from that belief - OR the person resists the Spirit and remains DEAD. Believing is a RESPONSE to the Spirit of Christ. The whole point is that a person CAN RESIST the Spirit of Christ - and thereby remain spiritually DEAD. You are saying that every human being is filled with the Spirit - from birth, and is therefore spiritually alive. I don't accept that. You're saying that a person is filled with the Spirit from birth - until/if Christ separates from that person, because of sins. While I do accept that a person can HAVE the Spirit and then LOOSE the Spirit, because of persistent rebellious sins, I do not believe that persons are indwelt by the Spirit of Christ until the age of belief and consent. The person either RESISTS or ACCEPTS the Spirit. That is our part to do. We either RESPOND or we RESIST.1 point -

For some 20 (age 11 to age 31) years I had a "voice" (sounded like self-talk) saying "You're weird. No one likes you." I met Jesus when was almost 31. I began reading everything I could find. My Mom ran across some tapes and a self-help book about demonic harassment. After reading the book and listening, I had STILL had not connected the dots. I visited an SDA church. I left early 'cause I didn't want to meet people. Going down the church steps 'the voice' again said. "You're weird. No one will like you." Then ANOTHER 'voice' broke in. It said emphatically, "That's Satan!' At that moment - I finally connected the dots. I sat in my car and prayed. I asked Jesus to deliver me. Then - in the NAME of Jesus, I commanded the demon to leave me alone and never trouble me with those words again. He left. He tried again about six months later, but I recognized him right away. I rebuked him again, in the name of Jesus, and commanded him to leave, and not send any replacement, or substitute. Most folks do not realize that Satan claims grounds based upon the sin of your mother or father, or even grandfather, or grandmother. You must close that door too.1 point -

What is your position on homosexuality?
Kdogae86 reacted to LifeHiscost for a topic
Considering this information below, I'd suggest that's very good advice 18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.[i] 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. 21 Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. 22 Claiming to be wise, they instead became utter fools. 23 And instead of worshiping the glorious, ever-living God, they worshiped idols made to look like mere people and birds and animals and reptiles. 24 So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. 25 They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. 26 That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved.....Romans 1 God is Love! Jesus saves!1 point -
What is your position on homosexuality?

Franklin Graham 2 hrs · Edited · The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled today that same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states. With all due respect to the court, it did not define marriage, and therefore is not entitled to re-define it. Long before our government came into existence, marriage was created by the One who created man and woman—Almighty God—and His decisions are not subject to review or revision by any manmade court. God is clear about the definition of marriage in His Holy Word: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). I pray God will spare America from His judgment, though, by our actions as a nation, we give Him less and less reason to do so.1 point -
