The One Project, Seattle, This February
JoeMo and 2 others reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
Green: Do you know who the speakers were at the Seattle One Project? If so, to whom do you object. I will point out to you that a lady commonly known a Ellen White had many books in her library that were written by non-SDA writers and she read those books. Well, I guess it is to bad that you were not, I suppose, living in her day so that you could advise her on how to correct the errors of her ways.3 points -
When he stopped to see us last year, it was hard to believe he was as sick as he was, yet we knew he didn't have as long to live as we all would have liked. He came in and wouldn't even sit down, because he had a list of people he wanted to see that day on his way home. I guess he wanted to see as many as possible while he had the chance and was well enough to do it, because so much of his time had already been spent in the hospital. While he talked, he just couldn't seem to stop moving. So full of energy, he seemed. We had planned to see him this spring or summer. It'll be a little longer now until we see him, but not too much longer, I'm thinking. LD3 points

I agree with Gregory - let the market decide who needs the One Project. The fact that the Seattle gathering sold out is a testimony of how many SDA's need it. I can't afford (time or money-wise) to go to the Gatherings; but I am sure looking forward to the 1:1 coming back to Boulder in August! I will testify that I need it if I am to remain and SDA. I'll probably get flack for this; but if we have the Bible and learn from it, why do we "need" EGW? We may like her and want her inspiration; but we don't "need" her. If we are indeed "sola scriptura", we only "need" the Bible. That being said, the wisdom of others (including EGW; but also folks like Billy Graham, A.W.Tozer, Oswald Chambers, Smith Wigglesworth, Joseph Prince, Bill Johnson, Jon Cahn, etc., etc., etc.) is helpful and motivates deeper study of the Word.2 points -

That sounds so much like me, Gail. The guidance counselors told me the same thing after I took the aptitude tests: I could be anything I wanted to be. I wish I'd had the wisdom then to just go ahead and choose what I knew would make me happy. Instead I didn't graduate for a couple of decades and eventually, after raising the kids and working as a medical transcriptionist (BORING) chose what I knew would be in demand as a job (teacher), because I wasn't sure I could get a job doing what I would enjoy. Too bad you can't live your life twice -- but I've enjoyed the life I've had (just not the work so much)! LD2 points -

Hi Kevin, I think you're on to something. At least it make sense to me that the law of sin and death is what Paul defines in chapter 6 when he says the wages of sin is death. In Chapter seven he suggests the law gave him knowledge of sin. It echoes what John says in 1John 3:4 KJV, ".........sin is the transgression of the law."2 points -
I too was able to spend some quality time with Neil when he came to visit friends here in the DC area. With both of us possessing the gift of gab we did have a nonstop gabfest. It seemed we hit it off like long lost friends, kindred spirits really. In his last weeks he talked about wanting to be able to come back and visit again. Sadly it wasn't possible. I will miss him.2 points

Ellen White & the Trinity
JoeMo reacted to 8thdaypriest for a topic
The spirit has no name. The spirit has no throne. The spirit is not glorified. The spirit is not worshiped. The spirit is not thanked. It is the gift. The spirit is not prayed to. Singular pronouns indicating possession, source, or relation, are used extensively with the word spirit throughout Scripture. The Holy Spirit is called “His spirit,” “My spirit,” “the spirit of the Lord,” “the spirit of God,” “the spirit of Him” or “Your spirit.” This suggests that the Holy Spirit is the omnipresence and power of the Father and/or of Christ. In Matthew 12:18, Luke 4:18, and Romans 8:11, the Spirit is “the Spirit of the Father.” 1 Peter 1:10-11 refers to the “Spirit of Christ” as the inspiration of Old Testament prophets.1 point -

Joe addressed 1 John 5:7. The wording in Greek translations of Matthew 28:19 - is SUSPECT. The baptismal formula "in the name of" the Holy Ghost" WAS NOT USED by the apostles. Six references have them baptizing "in the name of Jesus Christ". Did they disobey the command of Christ? Or was this formula INSERTED into translations paid for and sponsored by Constantine? Recent scholarship has revealed that every pre-Constantine Greek manuscript of the Book of Matthew has the last page missing - torn out. One Aramaic manuscript remains. In THAT manuscript, the formula reads "baptizing them in My name". The "holy ghost" who spoke through David, WAS "the Spirit of Christ who was in them" (I Peter 1:11).1 point -

I'm not sure why you quoted Isaiah 61:1. "The spirit of the Lord God is upon Me". Yes - and who is "the Lord God" in this verse? It is the spirit of the Father - the "One God and Father of all". Jesus said, "The Father who dwells in Me does the works." (John 14:10).1 point -

I'm not sure why you quoted Ephesians 1:17. It is God the Father who gives the spirit in this verse. God the Father gives of His own spirit. Luke 11:13 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"1 point -

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen. (2 Corinthians 13:14, KJV) Thirteen times Paul greeted the disciples of Christ in the name of the Father and the Son. Once He prayed that the grace of Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Spirit would be with the followers of Christ. The weight is on the side of two divine beings, not three. We "abide in the Son and in the Father" (1 John 2:24). “Our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son” (1John 1:3, 1John 2:24). All “the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in the Father and the Son” (Col. 2:2-3).1 point -

WHO WAS THE SPIRIT - SPEAKING TO OT PROPHETS? 1 Peter 1:11 "searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow." (NKJ) "There is one mediator BETWEEN God and man" (I Tim 2:5). "It was Christ that spoke to His people through the prophets" (Patriarchs and Prophets pg.366) "All the communion between heaven and the fallen race has been through Christ." Patriarchs and Prophets pg.366 "To Adam in his innocence was granted communion, direct, free, and happen, with his Maker. After his transgression, God would communicate to man ONLY through Christ and angels." Signs of the Times January 30, 1879 "All communication from heaven to earth since Adam's fall has come through Christ." (The Kress Collection pg.126, July 4, 1900) WHO IS THE SPIRIT - IN THE NEW TESTAMENT - SPEAKING TO THE CHURCH? Galatians 4:6 “And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, ‘Abba! Father!’” (NAS) Philippians 1:19 “For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ.” Why call it the "Spirit of Christ" if it is NOT His spirit - but rather another divine Being? Look at the messages to the seven churches. Each message IS CHRIST speaking. "These things says the First and the Last, who was dead, and came to life:" (Rev. 2:8) If you say that another Being - the Spirit - acts like a radio wave to conduct Christ's message to mankind on the earth - you just inserted another "mediator" (go between). Ephesians 4:6 “One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.” The FATHER is God of all, above all, through all, and in all. How is The Father “in” you? Answer: Through His Son. God the Father gave His Spirit "without measure" to His Son, enabling His Son to pour out His Spirit upon His disciples. There is no NEED for a third divine Being. Jesus baptizes with the Spirit. He pours Himself, into your heart.1 point -

Great expose; however, a at least one verse you quote does not appear in the original languages; but was added by translators. For example, the literal translation of 1John 5:7-8 is " For there are three that testify: 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. " The translation "the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost appears nowhere in scripture until after the 14th century. Several other verses refer to "the Spirit of the Lord" or "the Spirit of Christ" or just plain "the spirit". These do not necessarily equate to a 3rd independent and autonomous person or entity.1 point -

Gail reacted to GayatfootofCross for a topic
The reason of why I call myself A GAY CHRISTIAN ( please refer to the OP ) may not be agreed with or understood and it is OK. Meanwhile as long as we put forth a person as sin itself, regardless of label chosen by self or other... We lose our effectiveness to minister. People can be right all the live long day, but we easily forget in all of this, We Are talking about people CHRIST love and died for. may the joy of the Lord be all your strength1 point -

Kevin, That was quite an eloquent thesis you have presented above. Your logic is sound; and your references well documented. I will also try to say this without sounding condescending. Your logic is human logic; and your references are all human beings; and I can't see where scripture supports your or their hypotheses as they relate to the HS. The way I read it, scripture refers to two divine beings - the Father and the Son. Nowhere that I can recall is there an example of and entity called the Holy Spirit interacting with a human (unless you want to call the dove appearing at Jesus' baptism without saying anything an interaction, or the Spirit "leading people" an interaction); nor is there any example of a person worshipping or praying to the Holy Spirit or a command to do so.1 point -

Being a child of God, does not mean we are sinless, we still be sinners, there fore we need Christ to stand in for us as sin free. You seem to be arguing 'semantics'. Once an alcoholic, always one, that is why one does their best to stay away from such. Your piece and parts of texts with out context does not support the idea that calling oneself a homosexual, means they are still practicing sex. Are you no longer a sinner? Have you reached perfection?1 point -

The part of the law we are no longer under, as redeemed citizens of God's kingdom, is its penalty. If we were still under it, we are, by law, subject only to the death penalty. Because we are not under that law anymore, since Jesus' took the penalty for us, we can live, and not be punished. We will never, however, be released from the obligations of the law, only from its penalty. Blessings, Green Cochoa.1 point -

Kevin, Your post makes no sense to me. The "second DEATH" is the forever death - the DEATH from which there is no resurrection. Jesus was resurrected - therefore He did NOT die the "second death". The "lake of fire which is the second death". Jesus did NOT die in the "lake of fire". Persons who RESIST the drawing of the Spirit of Christ (knocking at the door), will be raised to face judgment, and then they will DIE AGAIN. RESISTING God is not the second death. It is rebellion, which then RESULTS IN the second death. There is NOTHING in Scripture, saying that "all three members of the trinity" suffered. Jesus was the Son of God the Father. That is stated over, and over, and over. The "one God and Father of all" gave HIS only begotten Son. So - Jesus is either the SON of God the Father, or He is one of a co-eternal Trio, and NOT really a son at all. He's a make-believe "son".1 point -

Based on the various statements some folks I've discussed with have made, it appears their understanding of Paul's words of freedom from the law of sin and death means that for the "saved" death is no longer a consequence for their continued sinning. But is this what Paul meant or are they wresting his words to their own destruction?1 point -

True that is where you see the phrase, but you see that Romans 6 is discussing this. Remember the original did not have chapter and verse divisions, and there are places in the Bible where the divisions are in the wrong place. But you see from the area above Romans 7 and the area just after this you see the law of sin and death being discussed, so why not in Roman's 7 as well?1 point -
