Ever since childhood, I have understood that in the last days, Satan will deceive "almost the very elect." Although Satan is evil, he is also very intelligent. He knows our weaknesses. He knows that even though we may love and worship the true God, we still have weak places in our psyches. Ben Carson may have been nearly close enough to God in his spiritual experience to have been classified as "almost part of the elect." But it has now become obvious that he is out of his depth, in over his head, and traipsing on foreign territory [politics]. He has no business in politics, because he's a naif in that element. I would hate to say he's been taken over by the devil, but it appears to me that he (like Eve) has been deceived. And that old devil, Satan, also knows that if he gets control of Ben Carson, this will give him entree into the persons and minds of many, many God-fearing Christians.1 point -
Unconditional Grace - truth or heresy?
Kevin(wrx) reacted to Gerr for a topic
The Scriptures use a number of metaphors to illustrate salvation. In the Covenant model (dominant in the OT), the inferior must accept the covenant & obey its terms. In the Redemption model, again the one sold or captured & enslaved must be willing to be redeemed or ransomed. Ditto the Adoption model, the Grafting model. In the metaphor that Jesus used in Jn 6, one must eat & drink His blood to have life. In the Legal court model of Paul, one must accept a righteousness from God by faith. So it seems to me that "unconditional grace" is not biblical.1 point -

I'm working on the photos and getting more frustrated by the minute. I may need to take a break before I break something. : ) No, he's not that heavy yet...he's still lean. I hope I have what it takes to train him. He deserves to be trained. I know how but it's a lot of work.1 point -

And, that is not what I said. My posts were made in a context where some of those who did not believe Claudia went on the attack and attacked her personally. That is wrong. Further, if you read the several posts that I made on that subject you will see that I made the following conclusions: 1) I believed Claudia. 2) I believed that the finding that her charges against MV were not sustained, was the correct finding. As has been said by others, both several years ago and recently, this is not the place to dig up all of that gossip, which much of it was. So, let us let this aspect rest. God has often used flawed and imperfect people. MV was both flawed and imperfect as well as used, in my opinion, by God. The fact that God may be using someone should never be taken as a sign that everything about them is in harmony with the will of God. That is the lesson that we should take with us today.1 point -
Romans 7:1

One problem with this interpretation is that it has Jesus adding to God's Law, which is expressly prohibited in God's Law. Besides having Jesus add the new requirement for the rich man to sell his goods to give to the poor, you also have Jesus making the this newly expanded Law of God a means of earning eternal salvation, something which is not taught in the Law of God or anywhere else in the Old Testament Scriptures. Of course, you may be right, and I may be wrong. We are so far removed from the cultural context of that day, that I may be totally off the mark. It just seems that you have a rather negative and legalistic view of God's Law, and that you are making God's Law far more onerous than what is taught in Scripture. You also seem to be making personal eternal salvation the main issue, the ultimate goal, and the highest achievement of a person's life. The people in Scripture, on the other hand, seem to be concerned more about living this life well -- in a manner that honors God -- than in squeaking into heaven someday. Which of the people in the whole Old Testament showed concern about their eternal salvation? Very few, if any. They apparently trusted God to take care of that. They were more concerned with honoring God, and seeing righteousness restored in the Land, and looked forward to the restoration of the Kingdom (which they expected to be set up in Israel). Scripture seems to teach that personal salvation is something that God takes care of very early in a person's relationship with God, when we first enter into covenant relationship with God and begin to walk in His ways. If personal salvation comes at the beginning of a person's walk with God, then personal salvation isn't what we are striving for in this life. I think God intends for us to pursue greater things. The afterlife and concern about whether a person would "make it" into heaven seems to be something that the Israelites picked up between the Old Testament and the New Testament when they were dominated by Greek culture. That's why I think Jesus was trying to show the rich young man that he was asking totally the wrong question. After all, pursuing personal salvation is a somewhat selfish goal. The apostle Paul seems ready to give up his own salvation if by doing so he could benefit the non-believing population of Israelites (Romans 9:1-4), which is very similar to the attitude that Jesus also had towards sinners.1 point
