How would you deal with....
Jeannieb43 and 2 others reacted to Gregory Matthews for a topic
First: What is the purpose of the study? Does it exist in a context where people who may differ in their Biblical understanding are expected to share their beliefs? Or, is it in a context where it is expected that people will come to understand something in a specific way, such as a baptisimal class? Let us say that it is in a context where people are expected to differ: 1) Be respectful of divergent opinions. 2) Acknowledge valid points that may not fit your understanding. E.G. Error is usually grounded is something. 3) Simply share why you differ. I will give an example: As an Army chaplain, I conducted worship services on Sunday mornings, as well as at other times. In those services I have preached on the 7th day as the Biblical Sabbath. I have talked about history and how a change came into being. I have talked about the Biblical teaching both as to why people accepted the change and why they did not. I have called for a personal commitment to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit and the Bible. But, I have always been respectful of the people listening to my sermons and I have never attacked and condemned either others or their denominations.3 points -
Who are the seven heads of Revelation 17?
JoeMo and one other reacted to Kevin H for a topic
The idea that the Bible does not contradict itself was a part of the fall of Babylon in the mid 1800s. Churches fell into either modernism seeing the Bible as purely human and not inspired, or into fundamentalism. The contradictions in the Bible are full of lessons that we miss if we refuse to look at them. They teach different aspects of God, they teach about how to disagree with each other yet remain unified and how doctrines can grow2 points -
The immaculate conception - a Catholic apologist answers
Robert and one other reacted to Gerr for a topic
1. Apples and oranges comparison! EGW's space trips is not found among SDA doctrinal beliefs; the immaculate conception and her subsequent personal sinlessness is, it appears to me, a dearly held doctrine in the RCC. 2. Do you believe that prophets in vision "whether out of the body or in the body" are capable of travel or speaking with extra-terestials? 3. Scripture is clear - "all have sinned," and there is only ONE Person called in Scripture as being "without sin". 4. If Mary was sinless, she herself would not have needed a Savior. 5. If you beg to differ, then just show scriptural basis for your belief.2 points -

Higher Concern than..... ....., for me at least! As a church we don't need an 'enemy' to show to the world but a saviour. The world is afraid enough of their own shadow without the church trying to 'scare' people to God. No, I don't buy it as 'necessary information'. Of what value would that info been to the people above who died? A risen Saviour who came to seek and save the lost, the poor, the downtrodden, those in pain, and everyone else who wants the 'info' on what they need to be saved. What is that 'info'? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ!! Can't believe the church still chooses to be irrelevant, rather than in the hurting lives of the common everyday person. (my 2-cents)2 points -

Are the three Angels' Messages Dead or Alive?
phkrause reacted to Robert for a topic
The first message is to preach the "everlasting gospel" to the human race. This message places the glory of men in the dust and gives God the glory. The second part of this message is a warning that spiritual Babylon has fallen (apostatized) and now she has "made all the nations" accept her immorality. Babylon, or apostate Christianity, does this through international legislation. The third message is a warning that if the believers give glory to "the beast and his image" instead of Christ, they will drink of the wrath of God, which is God abandonment (the 2nd death).1 point -

I posted the new series by Doug Batchelor. Also Pastor Bohr has spoken about this also!! Anyway its out there. And the link that Gail has posted by Pastor Wohlberg is absolutely right on.1 point -
Who are the seven heads of Revelation 17?
phkrause reacted to Green Cochoa for a topic
1) I have yet to see any proof of this claim. 2) If found true, I would likely have good reason to discard it as a scribal copy error. Consider this: TWO prophecies exist in the Bible that indicate a total time of sin on this planet to be 7000 years, Creation to finish. The Bible does not contradict itself.1 point -
Who are the seven heads of Revelation 17?
phkrause reacted to Green Cochoa for a topic
The Bible in no place indicates anything remotely near 500,000 years. The longest prophecies in the Bible span 7000 years--and in those prophecies the entirety of earth's history is covered. Therefore, since prophecies are exact (consider Exd. 12:40-42), there is no need to think of more than 7000 years of earth's history--which, by the way, includes the millennium in Heaven for the saints.1 point -

So the Karaites view them in this way? You said Judaism, and Karaites are part of Judaism. Jesus made no such distinction when He said what He did about the impossibility of the Scriptures being broken, after citing Psalms. Paul said "all Scripture is given by inspiration of God." Peter classified Paul's writings as part of Scripture.1 point -

Joke of the Day
Kevin H reacted to phkrause for a topic
A teacher asked her young pupils how they spent their vacation. One child wrote the following: "We always used to spend the holidays with Grandma and Grandpa. They used to live here in a big brick house, but Grandpa got retarded and they moved to Florida and now they live in a place with a lot of other retarded people. "They live in a tin box and have rocks painted green to look like grass. They ride around on big tricycles and wear nametags because they don't know who they are anymore. They go to a building called a wrecked center, but they must have got it fixed, because it is all right now. "They play games and do exercises there, but they don't do them very well. There is a swimming pool, too, but they all jump up and down in it with their hats on. I guess they don't know how to swim. "At their gate, there is a dollhouse with a little old man sitting in it. He watches all day so nobody can escape. Sometimes they sneak out. Then they go cruising in their golf carts. "My Grandma used to bake cookies and stuff, but I guess she forgot how. Nobody there cooks, they just eat out. And they eat the same thing every night: Early Birds. Some of the people can't get past the man in the dollhouse to go out. So the ones who do get out bring food back to the wrecked center and call it potluck. "My Grandma says Grandpa worked all his life to earn his retardment and says I should work hard so I can be retarded some day, too. When I earn my retardment I want to be the man in the doll house. Then I will let people out so they can visit their grandchildren."1 point -

Grandchildren don't make a man feel old; it's the knowledge that he's married to a grandmother. It's amazing how grandparents seem so young once you become one. If your baby is "beautiful and perfect, never cries or fusses, sleeps on schedule and burps on demand, an angel all the time," you're the grandma. An hour with your grandchildren can make you feel young again. Anything longer than that, and you start to age quickly.1 point -
