Sorry. Even though I have an Bachelor's in Accounting and an Associate's in Math, it's been too long since I've had any need for this. Can't do it. The basis for this discussion is in 1 Corinthians 3: Repeating, in modern language: Apparently milk is for those who can't chew yet. Does a person ever get past the worldly desires, does a church ever get past jealousy and dissension? That is obviously the expectation. As such, the speaker may need to assess, as Paul did, whether the listeners are spiritual or worldly, and adjust the diet accordingly.

I avoided calculus like the plague. But I loved statistics.

Dear friend Marilyn Dillow Cotton has passed away. According to Spectrum Magazine, she died on May 20, 2016 in Loma Linda, at the age of 82.. She was a singer and a lovely person. I've known her for more than fifty years, but hadn't stayed in touch during recent years. She sang on the TV program Faith For Today, along with Mary Ellen Byrd and Frances Bumby -- all three of them from Southern Adventist University (Southern Missionary College at that time), and they lived in New York City along with Elder and Mrs, Fagal. She continued singing after Elder Vandeman took over the program. She married Dan Cotton, a minister, and they had four daughters -- all of whom have now married and raised families of their own. Sad news. But we know we have something wonderful to look forward to.

Look at what Paul said categorized them as being still worldly. It was the jealousy and dissension among them. Maybe their maturity, or in this case, lack of it, was shown in the way they behaved with others.

For me - I agree that any topic can be meat. But the topic of diet can be 'milk' for those that crave it.

Gail, this is a difficult question.... I could give you many reasons, but I guess one of the most basic reasons that I believe God is real is when I see a moon rise on a clear, cool night. Such an event reminds me of what both Paul wrote in Romans 1:20 and David in Psalm 19:1

I guess I'm talking to myself here, but sometimes I suspect that Adventists think a sermon is more meaty if it is focused on prophecy and doctrine, and less meaty if it is focused on the gift of salvation. Am I correct in that suspicion?

Perhaps a milky sermon may be one you have heard at least a dozen times before. The prodigal son, for example. I can understand why it is popular, but I think I hear it about once a year. How is it possible to go to church every week for 60 years and hear anything you haven't already pondered on many times already? I know it's possible, but it seems to get more and more rare. Nevertheless, being in church, I know that God speaks to me, and sometimes even the sermon is what sparks an inspiring thought.

So "no" Samie, you are not holy and blameless as a descendant of Adam. About 2000 years ago Christ (as God) united Himself to our corporate, fallen humanity in the womb of Mary. By our corporate humanity I mean the life we all have in common with Adam. All of humanity shares Adam's fallen life. For thirty something years Christ lived a perfect life to God's law. Where was your corporate life? In Him. And on the cross your "old life was crucified with" Christ. See Rom 6:6 Hence the justice of the law has been satisfied. Sunday morning Christ, as God, was raised, not with our fallen humanity, but a glorified corporate humanity. He took this glorified humanity to heaven to represent sinners, like yourself, complete "in Himself".
